Toad

The toad in the museum.

I liked Toad, he was cool

The scuttlebug boss

Toad

Wiggler.

Fuck you I love Sticker Star.

That's a tough one, it's a tie between that one Red Toad and the other Red Toad.

Toad

The Mariachi Shy Guys were pretty good. If only the whole game had character designs like this.

The only other good non-generic character designs I can think of in this game are the Oasis Toad and the game show Snifit

The Toad in the beginning who, no matter what time you rescue him, gets sad about when you rescued him.

Those two Boomerang Bros. were kind of cool.

I can't even remember any other side characters in that game.

If I wasn't memeing I would also say the Wiggler, he was cute but it's not like he had any real competition
It was either Kersti one of the billion red Toads or the Wiggler, so the Wiggler easily wins

I liked that toad guy.

Literally the only neat enemy in the game.

Yeah, the only good NPC in that game was the Wiggler. Toads are generic & boring (only the Oasis Toad & Enigmansion Toad were unique) & Kersti is a bitch that has a bullshit "sad" ending where she sacrifices herself just to come back shortly after.

>all theses autists not picking Toad #27

>Not Toad #21

>that part where you have to actually stand in line to get on the roller coaster
>Disco Boo Party
>Snifit Or Whifit
>Yoshi Sphinx

So many neat ideas, gone to waste

>>Disco Boo Party
At least the music was good there.

>dialouge loving faggots

What if...

Would literally would make it ten times better.

green toad

Red Toad No.90021

not really, people would still complain that it's a generic ass chain chomp. and Color Splash DOES currently have other temporary generic partners in battle too and that doesn't help.

I was too lazy to search for a Chain Chomp OC that didn't look shitty & fit with the atmosphere. If you give me a not-shit one I'll fix that up.

I didn't say it would make it amazing, but it would certainly be ten times better.

Even if it wasn't like the first games, a return to the traditional battle without stickers/cards would already be a much better game.

If the chain chomp talked or growled or acted like a doggo like in Link's Awakening then it would still be awesome
>tfw so autistic that you've been thinking up ideas for potential Mario partners if Nintendo gets their shit together

So many have been thinking of ideas for partners in these threads for years now, especially recently.

>We will never get the game sticker star was during beta where stickers were only used for puzzles solving

Too bad the only screens I have are for when they started to replace the battle with the stickers.

There

This isn't supposed to be Super Paper Mario, user.

Looks more like one of the Pixls to be honest

Battles were always going to use stickers

Now he's robo chomp

I'm not farming that many coins again, fuck robo-tippi.

Not true. It started out as a normal Paper Mario RPG, then stickers were just gonna be used for puzzles & then they were incorporated in battles which led to many things getting changed & reworked altogether.

I liked the Snifits with the game show. In fact he kind of has a typical Paper Mario partner thing going on with that bow tie.

The one who you kept saving in every area, and kept a journal of his adventures.

Oh, this is a bait thread? I meant, "lol, duh red 1! XD"

Is Nintendo trying to make Toad popular like those shitty Minions?

It would still be better than what we're actually getting.

I had to turn the game on just now to remember it. I only remember saving a Toad in the first world.

>It would still be better than what we're actually getting.

No it wouldn't.

...

...

I really wonder if that's the case. I mean we got Captain Toad (which is actually good), Sticker Star & Color Splash is filled with them, Paper Jam is filled with them & has missions around them & New Super Mario Bros. multiplayer has them as third & fourth player. It's probably just coincidence but it's definitely questionable to say the least.

...

How do you know that user? Are you from some alternate universe?

I forgot about him since he turns generic after you save the owner of the mansion.

>she succ me

>How do you know that user?

Trust me, I was told by a very reliable source.

Since this is the paper mario thread currently, lemme ask:
I am going to start work on a fangame, but I have no idea what should be the tattle partner. I already have a few thought on, but I am torn between a classic goomba and a spear guy (since the setting is a cursed island). Even so, I have no idea how their personalities should be, so any suggestion is welcome.
I was also thinking on replacing the koopa partner with a dry bones or a buzzy beetle, but I'm not sure.

Well they changed the coins from cardboard to actual coins, so maybe they won't be focusing too much on paper this time?
The paper jokes are still there but not as many as there were in sticker star.

No, they're cardboard still.

Go with a goomba, 1 and 2 was great and they used a goomba dont try to do a sticker star

> I am torn between a classic goomba and a spear guy (since the setting is a cursed island)

Why not a cat Goomba then?

>You're becoming more like your father

If they are then they must really be stupid. Toad has been around for 30 something years and if he isn't popular by now, then he'll never be.

Alright, but I have no idea of a personality for it.
So far I have few partners: A girly blooper you can use for swimming (like sushie), the koopa (which might be a dry bones or buzzy beetle, most likely male. If dry bones, I was thinking he was a pirate when alive and refuses to admit he is dead), a bomb boo as the explosive party member (trickester, male), and the tattle which is the goomba, but I still need it's personality.
So far I thought up on most of the stuff regarding the plot and overral game. Here is a sketch I made of some ideas. I don't want it to be too long so few partners are fine.

Are the goombas in that picture all supposed to be different party members or the same guy in different outfits?

I'm a bit worried if it's the former.

Keep the Magikoopa, I really like that design and always thought it'd be cool to have one as a partner.

As for the tattle partner, I think a Goomba is fine. Though give it some personality, of course.

The first two are just random goombas because I was testing the sprites.
I designed Magikoopa to be a villain, but she looked "too nice" so she is now a support character, no partner though. I want the partners to have overworld functions and not just be there because "they're cool". If they're not functional I won't use them.

Couldn't the Magikoopa serve to ferry you through short distances in the air? I really like her design.

There could be a partner for that, but I don't think magikoopa would work because I can't imagine how it would go. Besides I wanted to avoid having big partners. grounded partners would be at most as tall as Mario and flying ones would be small. I know flurrie was pretty big but it felt off having a big partner.

I am most certainly not a fan of Sticker Star. But when can people stop mindlessly hating on toads?
I'll remind you that Super Mario RPG also had generic toads, and that game is even better than Paper Mario.

That's because not ALL NPCs were Toads. in sticker star, the only non toad NPCs are wiggler and snift show host.

Did you consider adding a Duplighost to your cast?

Yes and the game is awful. No need to hate toad for it.

Of course there were some generic Toads, some are fine, but 95% of Sticker Star was just that. Only 2 Toads were not generic (Oasis Toad & the old-fashion looking Toad in the Enigmansion). Look at all the different looking Toads in this image, there's a lot of variety making things not look samey & making them look like a civilization of characters. Also plenty of towns in the older games had what are usually enemies as NPCs (Koopa Village in 64 (which also had Bob-ombs), Petalburg in TTYD, Fahr Outpost was filled with Bob-ombs, Goomba's & Bandits were NPCs in TTYD, there was that 1 Ninji before Chapter 7 in 64, etc.).

People wouldn't hate him if he was balanced out, he's everywhere now & people are sick of him, similar to how people are sick of the Koopalings.

>Look at all the different looking Toads in this image
Forgot the image.

Also here's another chart that has Toads from SMRPG and Mario & Luigi.

since it takes place on an island, why not make the goomba a castaway who's been stuck on the island for god knows how long?
it'd explain him having the tattle ability since he had nothing to do but go around the island looking at everything for so long.

hope your project goes well

You can say whatever you want want from sticker star, but it had the best hammer sound effects of all series.

It's a social commentary on the typical jap looking the same as the other typical jap.

These are pretty cool, I thought they might have been real since I didn't play sticker star.

I like this idea.

If you're looking for some different partner ideas you could try a bullet bill or pic related as a long range partner.

What makes me mad the most is that Sticker Star didn't included at least a Toadette

I could use a spike instead of a koopa for long range stuff, but the balls can't be used to retrieve far items then. Only to hit stuff. And I would still need a personality for it.
It isn't a bad suggestion but without clear overworld actions or personality I can't add it.

I dont even need original characters everywhere, I'd be perfectly fine with 9001 Toads if only the gameplay wasnt fucking garbage

Shame we were all out of luck with SS. I think I finished maybe two stages before trashing the game

I don't see how giving the toads weird clothings makes the games any better or worse.

It makes the NPCs unique, more memorable & diverse. Having just recolors are dull & boring.

It gives charm and personality and make the NPCs more memorable.

>Alright, but I have no idea of a personality for it.

Maybe more of a bragger than Goombario and Goobella. Like he consider's himself the "Top Cat" of the island just because of his knowledge but is overstating his reputation a bit.

>memorable
I disagree on that. I can't remember a specific toad from the thousand year door, but I certainly remember what all the toads in Sticker Star looked like.

How can you forget when they all look the same?
But do they even have names or something to make them individuals or just "another toad"?

Gotta admit, you gave me a chuckle there, user.

They don't have names but I remember this Toad in Outlook Point that gives you all the advice pretty well.

I agree to an extent but... I dunno, having the toads look the same doesn't really hamper the experience of the game for me. They still have charming dialouge and I feel like people are blowing it out of proportion.

The only toads I remember from sticker star was the museum one and the red one that you meet through the world. But they have no names, they're only "green toad" and "red toad". If they had at least a hat something it would make them more memorable.

I think it's just because you look for something else in a game (which is fine). Plenty of people look for different things in this series, some care for the interesting areas & characters, some for just the writing, some for the gameplay, etc. Personally I think they're all needed to make a truly good Paper Mario. So when you lack a lot of these aspects people are gonna rage so I think it makes full sense for people to respond the way they do. By the way, if you need an example of this, look at Paper Jam, it doesn't get as much flack as Sticker Star since the gameplay is top-notch, but it still does get hate at all for lacking unique characters & lacking a creative fresh world.

I only remember the Toad in that image & the museum one. I had to be reminded of the one that you meet through the world from
