What's the verdict? I have GTX670 from 2012, worth the upgrade?
RX480
it's shit, and literally fries motherboards.
Your card is still fucking fine. I'm still using the GTX 560ti 1GB from 2011, and have no problems playing any game at 1920x1200, smoothly.
I have, however, started to consider the GTX 1060. Costing mere 250 bucks and being stronger than the GTX 980, it really seems like a great deal, and would be more than plenty for 1080p gaming
Wait to get a third party 480 that has an 8 pin, fixes all of the electricity problems
>it's shit, and literally fries motherboards
So do the other 30 cards which violate PCIe specifications.
OP, for the 200 bucks you can literally play 1080p in ultra at 60 fps - or are you somebody who would rather spend $400 just for the brand name like the apple cucks?
don't buy either, wait for the reviews of the gtx 1060 and the reviews to the RX 480 with custom coolers and a 8pin power connector releasing in a week.
After you see both reviews, then make a choice. The problem with the RX480 power draw is already fixed in the newest driver.
Don't bother buying any GPU on launch. I still have my radeon 6570 and it can handle everything on the market still
Since the 1060 was confirmed gimp underpowered shit, it's fine especially considering the 1070 won't be sold at MSRP probably until Winter.
It's a great 1080p card and decent 1440p card.
>wait for the reviews of the gtx 1060
there already are those available for the Founder's edition, and it is safe to assume that the other versions will simply be better.
AMD is not even an option for me. Never fucking ever again am I going team red.
>Since the 1060 was confirmed gimp underpowered shit
I don't think we've seen the same benchmarks and tests.
Confirmed for the GTX 560ti being an excellent card. You're not going to be maxing out graphics on a new title but for the age of the card it's still a solid bit of hardware.
It's basically a 970 that will age much less poorly and will do great with new technology like dx12.
If you already have a 970/r9 390, it's probably not worth it to upgrade but if you're upgrading from something like a 670 and want to play at 1080p 60fps then it's the best card for that.
Or you can wait a week for the 1060 and then decide.
It's confirmed weaker than 480 even in DX11 games
It cannot be used in Sli
Maxes out at 6GB
those are not real reviews, there are no reputable reviews yet. I say again, wait for release of the cards. if you want to say the benchs of firestrike ultra, they put the 1060 on par with the RX480 released, but the rumors say the AIB version of the RX480 is 980 level at least. Honestly there is no point of arguing till all the reviews are released, anything before that are just rumors and fud
>cards not out
>there are no reviews
>it's confirmed weaker guise!
I guess, but I'd doubt it'll be better. Most of what we know indicates it won't be as good and, historically, AMD always beats NVIDIA in the lower end GPUS
>Nvidia shills appear out of the woodwork on cue
Lots of people who have bought nvidia cards and CLEARLY their purchase was not bad and anything that company makes is the best shit ever
The pajeets need to shill, if they shill hard enough they might get promoted and move to a major city where they no longer need to use the designated shitting streets.
I think it's time.
wait for real 1060 reviews, in the meantime AIB will release their versions. Don't buy reference.
Overall it's a good card.
promo slides. AotS bench showed stock 480 beating 1060 at 2Ghz. no real reviews yet.
>TFW I probably won't have to change out my 290X for a long ass while since I play at 1080p
>REEEE STOP TRIGGERING ME
Definitely, but wait for the 1060 to come out and then decide.
Nice meme. Consider killing yourself.
Time for what? Console war level shitposting about two companies?
I can't wait, right now I have a gt 630 and this upgrade will be life-changing.
Though I would have to install a 500w PSU, right?
>it's time
Oh goody.
NIXXIES released a patch for RotTR, adds Async to Dx12 mode.
>have a 7850 currently
>8 year old cpu bottlenecking everything
Don't think I'll need a new GPU anytime soon
1060
>no sli
>cannot be watercooled
>already slower than the 480
>costs more than the 480
480
>power issue solved with driver
>will be perfected with 8pin versions from 3rd party manufacturers
>outperforms the 1060
>8GB version costs same as 1060 3GB
Can Intel HD 520 graphics run terraria?
best for its price but get non-ref design with proper cooling, if you have more money - get 1070
>>already slower than the 480
>>costs more than the 480
any source?
>1060
its effectively not existing, cant buy it, no proper benchmarks, paper launch
his ass.
there is no officially confirmed 3gb model for the 1060.
i have a 3 year old 750Ti and I'm going to wait.
I'll wait until the market stabilizes.
I can last till Christmas.
Don't ever buy reference cards.
Wait for benchmarks.
Don't go to Sup Forums.
Make your decision and purchase the product that you want based on your individual needs.
>power issue solved with driver
Yes, a driver that will gimp the performance for a budget card that already isn't as powerful as other cards.
I'm exited for you. Upgrading from a GT or GTS to GTX anything is always life changing
>will gimp
holy shit gramps, keep up with the news, the driver was already released and tested, it actually made the card faster
What did they mean by this?
My question is if the 4gb version of the RX480 is at least equal to the performance of the GTX 970.
>synthetic benchmarks
>I-IT DOESNT COUNT!
You can count it all you want, but it hardly reflects actual performance in actual games.
>more nvidiot lies
do you get paid for it, or just a dumb zealot?
performance is margianlly BETTER even in economic mode that you dont need, cause power issue is solved without it
actual games will use Directx 12, i wonder how them new nvidyer cards will handle them games?
Wait for custom third party cards and see how those do.
the 4GB 480 is actually a 8GB one, locked by bios. they locked the 4 GB but didnt lower the power draw too.
kill yourself marketer
it made the card faster now that it's not throttling the GPU due to heat
>the 4GB 480 is actually a 8GB one, locked by bios. they locked the 4 GB but didnt lower the power draw too.
wait what
so you can somehow unlock it?
As you can see, I don'T know a thing or two about computers.
I'm using it and it's fantastic.
Unless you're overclocking it all the way and running dual monitors with 4k there is no possible way it will affect your MB.
refer to that
Either amd haven't met production schedules for 4GB 480 so they used 8GB 480s and locked the 4GB via Bios, or amd has gone completely mad
based on the pic in the article, the difference between 4GB and 8GB version is something over 1FPS.
How come?
Why didn't they just have the 8pin on there to begin with? It's like the company wanted to take a risk with customer backlash.
the guy who fried pci slot used 3 cards for mining without risers+extra power, pretty much his fault
Good question. Why do all the ref designs come with shitty noisy turbo-cooler?
1. that's at 4K, the difference at lower resolutions may be more significant
yah
BUT COULD IT...???!!!!??!
>Either amd haven't met production schedules for 4GB 480 so they used 8GB 480s and locked the 4GB via Bios, or amd has gone completely mad
actually it has to do with bandwidth
from the article:
"you still need eight chips for 4GB. The memory of this card include 256-bit, or rather, eight 32-bit memory controllers. The moment you will put only four chips on the PCB will halve the memory bandwidth because you have only a 128 bit memory bus (4 times 32 bit).
A 128-bit memory bus, however, half the memory bandwidth is far too little for a quick card like this, which also pieces will perform worse and the worst circumstances, which have only 50% of the performance, which is not to do so.
So what you need are still eight memory chips, but with half the capacity so that you come to a total of 4GB. AMD had in his own words, however, too little time or wanted to spend money, to certify an additional card. So the first RX 480 with 4GB versions have just 8GB. All these maps of the different cards also come from AMD with only a sticker of a XFX, Sapphire, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, etc. stuck on."
see pic
>8gb
WHY WOULD THEY HIDE SUCH A THING
>mfw
>280X
>paid 150$
>60fps in almost every game at 1080p
>rock solid 30ps in most demanding games all on ultra
I feel so fucking good.
special gift for those who bought best brand :)
because why pay 230 when you can pay 199.
They wanted to go under 200$, but they decided to sell "real" card at 230.
They are losing profit to deliver on their 200$ promise, meanwhile launching a 230$ card
I wonder if the 3GB 1060s are just 970s with 512MB disabled.
>3GB vram
enjoy that stuttering in every game released next year, drone
>guy picks up a good budget card
>is a drone
wat
My nigga. I'm also on a 560Ti.
I'm going to upgrade to a 1060 or 1070 though.
you'd be dumb to think otherwise
nah, games wont do that in 1080p, cause all the most popular nvidia cards have 3,5gb of usable memory
>Buying a 3gb card unironically
No games worth playing use more than 3 gigs unless you're modding the shit out of it. Take your memes back to Sup Forums.
Just wait for the 1060
The 8GB 8pins non-reference versions? Yes.
Everything else, no.
Wait a while.
Wait for benchmarks of aftermarket RX 480's to see if they fix the dubious issue of power draw and to see if there's noticeable performance increase.
Wait for release and benchmarks of aftermarket 1060's. There's always a lot of hype surrounding new generations of cards, going by hype alone is stupid.
Generally speaking the 1060 will probably compete very well with the 480, except in DX12, at which point the 480 may edge out a bit. But again, wait and see, speculation said that the 480 matched the 980ti, speculation said it was worse than a 960. It's always bullshit.
>stronger than the 980
pfft
Yeah, wait for it and have absolute proof that RX480 will be better.
480 power draw was fixed with a bios update
1060 WILL beat a 480 in most, if not all applications
Are you unironically considering buying an AMD card with the reference cooler?
thanks for the info, my crystal ball broke this morning
>tfw my r9 290 is probably still more capable at DX12 than the 1060
the 480 already beat the shit out of the 1060 in 3dmark so "all applications" is out of the deal.
>i..i-it d-d-doesn't reflect r-r-real p-p....p-erformance!
>1060 WILL beat a 480 in most, if not all applications
oh, you have a 1060?
I just ordered a 1080. Have fun with your shit framerates.
the post above yours buddy
He's right. Why are you posting a picture of rotten garbage BTW?
>driver that will gimp the performance for a budget card that already isn't as powerful as other cards.
this isn't an nVidia card so this is a lie
I am close to getting a 480, i cant wait anymore on upgrading from a 660.
The wait to see how 1060 performs is killing me. And I would rather get the 1060.
>synthetic benchmarks
Yawn.
Why would you buy the 480 with the reference cooler?
see
But it doesn't.
It has never done.
wait for 3rd party 480s
they have actual coolers and 8pin power connectors instead of 6pin
>b-but it doesn't count!!!
holy fucking kecklord
I didn't mean reference cards, but aren't most out yet? Nitro saphirre would be cool, but isn't the Saphirre one worth getting?
When has 3Dmark counted?
