That is one title I don't see how it can work out, since having it based on cars would be a horrible move, since it alienates people without vehicles and could promote speeding accidents, but GPS seems so wonky on GO that I cannot see people doing like jogging races or something and using random power ups.

You can't have more than 1 outlier when looking at trends. If you take out the Virtual Boy, then there is no trend because the DS breaks that trend

There's still a rather large handheld consumer base out there, though.

Typical stores I went to in tokyo this year had huge amounts of floor space dedicated to handhelds. Even the vita had multipla aisles of games. It's not shrunk enough to just evaporate yet, by far.

It was only a matter of time. As soon as game development started booming on Android I knew the writing was on the wall for Nintendo handhelds and a bullet in the head for Sony handhelds.

Pokemon Go, while as purely shitty and glitchy as it is, shows there's a huge appetite for Pokemon as it was once intended: a fucking exploration game where you interact with real people and interact with little monsters.

It perfectly encapsulates what Pokemon was supposed to be albeit in a really lackluster way in this form.

Yes, the 3DS has failed to outmatch DS sales. Not to mention hardware sales for the 3DS already peaked and no amount of new Nintendo games will gain new players; only current 3DS owners willing to buy another handheld variation.

Which is why I don't see any of these new Pokemon Go players turning into 3DS owners when Sun and Moon are released. They're more likely to ask for iTunes gift cards than for a $200+ handheld.
