>HURR WHERE'S THE GAMEPLAY THEY SHOULD OF JUST MADE A MOVIE!
Can you fucking pleb shits not understand video games make for a more immersive medium and story telling tool than books or films ever will?
Can you imagine how much better Citizen Kane would be as a great kino video game rather than a pleb film it's been unfortunately regulated to?
There is absolutely nothing wrong with linear story driven video games.

>Books are for poor people They really should be. You have poor people spending half their paychecks on cable when they have literally lifetimes of entertainment for free.

Video games are for making stories, not telling them.

I don't see why people view this as a bad thing. Watching a movie you can interact with is pretty cool. What's wrong with having different types of games.

This is fine. However: • The player should be able to skip any cut scene. There is no legitimate reason for unskippable cut scenes to exist, no matter how good the developer thinks the story is. "It's a story-driven game" is no excuse to withhold useful and easily implemented options from the player. • If there's no fucking gameplay (see: Dear Esther), then you should stop calling it a "game" and just call it "interactive fiction" instead. It's more appropriate, less likely to cause stupid debates like this, and there's literally no reason to call something a "game" when it's not, unless "interactive fiction" has some extremely negative connotation of which I am unaware. It seems like this terminology would be a perfect fit, because it seems to describe exactly what people like you want.

Bad example. That one wound up exploding in their face. Bad enough that they've disavowed the game and are trying to get a documentary funded.
Jayden James
Can't we all just agree videogames can be for a lot of things?
Whether it's the arcadey high score shit, the vr and kinesthetic movement shit, stories controlled by the player's actions shit, or playing through a developer's vision of a story your way shit, all of those have a goddamn place and vidya shouldn't just be one or two things.

Is it how the big bad internet called them out on selling a game about their dead cancer baby?
Daniel Powell
A good story is a nice bonus, but never the reason to play.
Blake Green
Still mostly dead cancer baby but there'll probably be something like that if it gets funded.
