sure, i'm not too keen on those jap wizardry clones
well elminage is ok but most of the others are pretty terrible

I actually bought that during the Steam sale but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Little annoyed that apparently the mobile version has a fuckton more expansions than the PC version, but still looks enjoyable enough. Buncha dorks saying "lol it leik dagarfal" when it looks a lot closer to a single-character Might and Magic, though.

What makes Elminage ok? I got it from a sale as well but never loaded it up due to weebery.

The quest is more like Might and Magic mixed with Morrowind (not really though because you don't have keyword dialogue and you actually get to make choices in quests unlike Morrowind)

It's like a blend between Xeen and MMX and also mixed with newer open world RPGs with card games at the inn, fully written dialogue, and you can apparently fuck bitches but nobody likes me enough for that. I can't even get into a castle because my equipment was too shitty and guards won't let you in.

I mean MM6.

>It's like a blend between Xeen and MMX

What the fuck? WHAT the FUCK? We talking about Elminage here? Xeen's one of my favorites. That might override weebery.

Oh, The Quest. Yeah, looked a little Xeen-y which is why I scooped it up. I doubt it'll have the same weird don't-give-a-shit setting/story/writing but I watched a little bit of gameplay for it and it looked nice.

Might & Magic 6 is the best dungeon crawler

King's Field 5 when??

Every Temple of Baa screenshot ever

No I mean The Quest. Also I may have misled you. The setting isn't anything like Xeen but the movement, the way you can see enemies in front of you before encounters, and things like that. The writing seems pretty good so far for your average indie RPG but I did notice one or two typos. From my experiences I've noticed a lot of quests have alternatives where you can backstab a questgiver. For example, there's a lord that wants you to find his wife who was kidnapped by bandits and return her for 2000 gold. If you go to the bandit hideout, you find out she is quite content with her life and was forced into a marriage with the lord and you get the option to mediate the ransom between the bandits and the lord for half of the gold instead of just killing all the bandits.

Has anyone here played Mordor: the depths of Dejenol?
Is there a way to play it without a vm?

Having multiple solutions to quests in a game like that is pretty cool.

Why would you play Mordor instead of Demise: Ascension? You're being weird user.

>they see your dick

I've also gotten a quest where a king's agent recruiter wants me to go find a boy and send him back to the agent. When you go talk to the boy, he doesn't want to go back and tells you to find a girl at the docks instead for the job. You can either bribe him 200 gold to go back, pass a check and lie to him about the girl, persuade him directly to get recruited, or convince the fishergirl to take his place. There's only two real solutions but multiple ways to go about it which is nice.

Used to play it while I was working. My work office had a computer with windows xp and decided to try it, I also played shit like Zork and The Hobbit. The thing is I really liked it and wanted to play it again, but I'll give Demise a try, Thanks.

I'VE LIKED THE REALTIME ONES I'VE PLAYED BUT I'VE NEVER GOTTEN INTO WIZARDRY OR THE LIKE SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE ABOUT ROLLING VARIOUS TEAMS UNTIL YOU GET AN OPTIMIZED ONE THAT STEAMROLLS THE GAME.

I LIKED KING'S FIELD, ARX FATALIS, SYSTEM SHOCK AND FRIENDS THOUGH.

I DON'T KNOW MAYBE I'M JUST RETARDED.

YES YOU ARE FUCKING RETARD

Play Might and Magic 6. It can be played both realtime and turn-based and you end up using both a lot. From my (limited) experiences, turn based dungeon crawler tactics usually revolve around spells in you party with magic being the gamechanger on those tough fights.

OKAY I'LL GIVE IT A LOOK.

i backed the bards tale for like 150 dollars

the quest is the shit

good goy
I like the sound of what they're doing though.

store.steampowered.com/app/329040

this game looks pretty promising

etrian odyssey
grimrock 1 and 2

are dungeon crawlers specifically in first person?
what are dungeon crawlers anyway?

i like the roguelikes like elona (actually just elona)

does it have a name?

Stone Soup is my favorite but i tried Sword of the Stars the Pit and like it.

boku no click the link

I don't Steam. Though you seem to suggest the game's Steam-exclusive, which makes it useless for me anyways

>real-time
fug

What happened to grimoire?

elminage is not weeaboo at all and people only really hate it because it's hard (like the wizardry games are)
I got fall of the dungeon guardians in the sale, although it looks almost identical to grimrock it's more combat heavy and the system is kind of like an mmo with special attacks/abilities on cooldowns also realtime but you can pause at any point
pretty good for 15 bucks or so it also has a level editor and custom portraits

>custom portraits
its enough to be a disgusting memester, you need to be able to show others you're a disgusting memester

lol

why is it called dungeon crawlers when youre not doing any crawling?

What, is it still being made? Last I heard was that they planned to do release it on greenlight

yes

why is it called a role playing game if you dont actually roleplay?

gotta show your friends your awesome cropped furry porn pics

...

That's NOT grimrock? I assumed that was some sort of mod, I know you could add custom stuff through the workshop. Those walls are slightly shittier but they're practically the same exact ones grimrock uses.

I know that feel bro

Do new games even get released for not-Steam on PC? Might as well be a goddamn Valve console.

itch.io

>he doesn't roleplay as 4-8 different people and voice them all out loud

what's that other game that lets you put custom portraits in, I think it's on vita as well as on PC?

yeah, it's rare. I just end up playing older games instead. And I do consider Steam a "computer console"

most of them

the visuals are fairly similar some effects look and lighting/shadows look better than grimrock but it's completely different gameplay wise
you're probably thinking of stranger in sword city, it's very average though i wouldn't recommend it at 30 bucks or whatever the price is

There are DRM free games on Steam. I prefer GOG though.

>There are DRM free games on Steam
don't care. Steam is the problem. If they're available outside of Steam it's cool

>And I do consider Steam a "computer console"

Why?

Just finished this, anyone else here played it?

It will never come out.

>Bechesda Sofcworcs

Steam's a social platform, intrusive, data-grabby, and a walled garden

I don't often recommend youtube channel, but Matt Chat has a fantastic pair of interviews with the creators of the Wizardry games and makes for a great listen while gaming in a relaxed setting.

>intrusive
its not intruding if you give it permisison

>game audio

Not even once.

Matt Chat is the only youtube guy I watch. You can see he genuinely enjoys talking about and playing RPGs in his videos. I heard he's doing an interview of Jon Van Caneghem soon.

Or alternatively, I just call it Facebook+iTunes for video games.

>I don't have friends, but I wear a tinfoil hat and like to pretend I'm supporting FOSS.

Oh, sure. Makes sense.

wew lad

my sides

the interviews are definitely meaningful, all his questions are informed he's really intimate with the subjects he covers, and it can't be easy tracking down some of these folks who aren't gaming celebrities and convincing them to chat on camera. It's borderline criminal that some of these videos only have 4-digit views.

just finished it about a week ago. its kinda fun, but u really need to be a spellcaster and get spell absorb/spell reflect and paralysis, or else ur just gonna get demolished in the late game. if u wanna go warrior, choose spellsword, and if u wanna go thief, choose nightblade or bard

...

Matt is too nice to be RPGcodex material. He also likes too many games.

Eye of the beholder?

user, give me the most hardcore/intense/not forgiving but fun dungeon crawler that you have ever played, I wanna experience it.

Does IVAN count?

...

Luckily for me I always pick spellcasters in these kind of games and they always suck in modern games.

I picked Spellsword and once I found the Create a Spell feature I was set from there.
99 all of my stats for like 20 mana.

yes, anything that applies to (hinfbf)

DoomRL is also quite fun in short bursts. IVAN is one of those games I will never finish because the gods hate me in that game.

Emulating SNES Shin megami tensei on my android and it's pretty dope.
Was playing yesterday before falling asleep and some Guy wrecked my party completely. But I think I almost got him so I'm gonna try again now.

How do I put my benis in her??

...

Do you play with a touchscreen?

Opinions on Stranger of Sword City?

Still waiting on that The Quest android version..patiently...

Yes. Sony Xperia e4g. Using snes9x emulator.

Not happening, is it? J think they mentionrd plans only for tq 2 android version.

Tried to find the post about them talking about the android port and found this instead.

Saw a post from the creator saying it was coming eventually. I think he said sometime this year.

I dunno why gog can be so picky sometimes this is the kind of thing their customers would buy anyway
this game got rejected from gog too iirc

I'd like to know why they rejected it anyways it's not like GOG has standards.

they would rather add garbage like Minecraft Story Mode

We're short on dungeon crawlers as it is and trying to find the good ones out of the mobile cashgrabs is hell.

Was pretty fun. Mechanics were a bit on the simple side though.

would've been better with animations no matter how few frames it actually is

Fuck, what is that game? I swear I remember it.

THE Quest

Rerolling is for fags outside of the first few games, you can do fine with average stats.
In the first few, it's possible to LOSE stats on levelup, which is fucking retarded, and pretty much mandates savescumming.

Having your party wipe on a couple of rats necessitates going back to the drawing board.

This isn't an aRPG, there's no skill involved. Just preparation to mitigate the roll of the dice.

Has anyone been keeping up with Necropolis? Is it good?

The Dark Spire is pretty legit also the soundtrack is beyond godlike.

I tried this game but I had to refund it.
Basically: mmo grind, the game
