>muh romances are bad
>muh Obsidian
Muh romances are bad
And her romance was hilariously bad as well. So?
Every "romance" in BG2 was fucking trash. The only "good" BG2 romance was a fan-written Edwin romance mod and only because it was focused on pure humour rather than any sort of dramatic events.
in 100% of the cases, literally no exceptions, the best Bioware characters are those you can't romance because they're forced to make the characters actually interesting rather than just coasting by on a romance plot.
Viconia makes better pump-and-dump material than romance material
If you paid any attention to what Avellone and AUTISM-O Sawyer said, you'd know that romances in crpgs are bad because they're just points you score and characters tend to have absolutely no chemistry. It's also an easy way to make you care about a character. It's not that romances are bad, it's that they're not done well most/all of the time, and I'd prefer not having them if the alternative is just dumb Bioware shit.
That being said, I would shitty romances over absolutely nothing, which is what PoE had.
no romances are better than shitty romances because the latter fucks up the entire character.
In PoE it wouldn't make any sense for most of the companions to have anything resembling a romance plot, after all do you really want a candlelight dinner with Durance?
>posts shitty say what I want to hear then you can fuck me romance
Aerie's romance is still one of the best romances in the history of videogames though
LEAVE HER ALONE
>Aerie's romance is still one of the best romances in the history of videogames though
I refuse to believe this is not bait.
>Aerie's romance is still one of the best romances in the history of videogames though
MUH WINGS
>that revisionism
haha
>sarevok best romance
>no homo
Reminder that wincest mod is the only good romance in BG2.
>dwarf rape
>tfw can never do an elf archer run because I anyways want to romance her
Just do a kensai with a throwing dagger. Same shit, same performance, only slightly different projectiles.
>posting thread about game that nobody could ever like
nice shilling
I... what?
Intresting how she actually enjoys company of half-orcs more than elves.
Well, Sarevok as a companion had something like an improved version of the romance system.
Sarevok only had bromance.
Yeah I know. I'm just saying your relationship with him worked similarly on the mechanical level, and actually improved on the CYOA-like pick the right answer or break the romance thing with its point-based thing.
DELETE THIS
Who the fuck made it?
heh I was just looking through the viconia romance on youtube again
it's comfy
Did enhanced edition turn out ok? Or should I just play the original from gog?
Recent versions are quite buggy and need time. Overally they are ok. Added content is inferior to original, but it's all optional content.
Ever notice that the people who don't want to be put in boxes really, really like making new boxes to put people in? That they control? That they only put other people in? People who often have no say over being put in that box?
That's a fucking lot of cardboard and sharpie.
Were they competent enough to address the wonky pathfinding from the original or did they just leave it as is?
They improved pathfinding greatly. I never had problems in "order them to go to opposite side of location and go make some coffee" situations.
EE works on MyMachine™ no problem at any time.
general opinion seems to be that nearly all the extra characters are complete garbage in terms of romance, basic companionship and even baseline class.
I fucking love all of them myself, but you have to respect the taste of the majority.
>but it's all optional content
Which is thrown in your face so if it's your first time you really should avoid them.
Otherwise you may grow to think that ghost anakin looks old.
are you trying to say "my"?
if your romances are bad, try changing yourself... work out 5 days a week and keep track of your progress, work on social skills - look people in the eye, call people by name instead of "hey man", get enough sleep and fix your diet
I dunno what you are trying to imply about your Obsidian though
The ending always leaves me with heavy feels to the point i cannot sleep.
>>>
does she always die
I just completed my first gym session :^) been jogging and doing calisthenics up til now
Tomorrow they're going to teach me to squat and oat!
...
>aerie
>asexual
>you have to hold her back from jumping on your dick
They literally just matched random mental diseases to the characters without any connection to their actual personality.
what the fuck is aroflux it sounds like medicine
>lithoromantic
>transmasc
She only doesn't die if you decided to be friends instead. Mods like flirtpack tried to fix it but ended up that you need to so evil to the point i cringed myself while playing an evil party.
At least they didn't ruin based Korgan.
He died like bitch in the end though.
>like a bitch
Korgan went out like a badass.
...
Doesn't say he died though.
>lived in as bloody a fashion as he could manage
>thirst for carnage was immeasurable
>blind fury took even the dark elves by surprise
>axing a high priest of Lolth while laughing
I really miss that Dwarf.
I feel like Wrex was an attempt at recreating Korgan (Krogan-Korgan), but ultimately Wrex was too humanized with goals, regrets, fears and desires. There wasn't a whole lot more to Korgan than being violence incarnate and that was a huge part of his charm.
When my character was about to make a maybe final kiss to viconia before the finale finale battle. He was screaming >HAR NOW, THAT'S THE WAY YE DO IT! JUST DON'T LET ER SWALLOW YER WHOLE HEAD THERE!
The only murderhobo i truly like.
What if you become a god?
Jaheira > Viconia >>>>>>>> Aerie >>>>>>> Neera in terms of romance arcs.
also lmao @ female characters' options
Have fun with your used goods, Cuckleberry Finn.
Compared to Viconia, Jaheira may as well be a virgin.
This.
Absolutely this.
So, the Undertale one was sincere, but I'm pretty sure this is just an amazing troll.
That sounds about right, except I wouldn't have included Neera at all. It's like including your own fanfiction in character rankings.
Depends if she is evil or not. If evil she lives long worshipping you as her new patron god. If good she dies with a sad memory of her former love.
Probably what bothers me the most is that she made Viconia black even though she's blue.
>Lithoromantic
it better be
Drow have obsidian skin, some also have a bit more purple tone to it. Lorewise Viconia's skin on portrait is wrong. I guess bioware made her skin lighter so you could actually see her face clearly.
>If evil she lives long worshipping you as her new patron god
Sounds like a good end to me. Clearly the only good choice. Especially since there is something inherently hilarious about a drow cleric worshipping a male god.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Then you could reunite with your waifu in the afterlife as well.
Adding to this, skin that isn't fully obsidian but has a greyish tint to it is a sign of old age or sickness, mostly seen in gutter trash.
How so? Other drow gods than Lolth have many male priests.
>Men get 3 flavors of elf
>Women get 1 man they can change and mold into what they like
The problem is that Elves live for thousand and something years. The drow and sun elves are the logest living eladrin races.
>2016
>playing weebshit
Obviously I was talking about female clerics. From what I remember Vhaeraun doesn't accept any females into his priesthood, although there are some females among his followers anyway.
Now the eldritch god whose name escapes me is a different deal, he doesn't give a fuck.
I have nostalgia for my puberty fantasies involving Viconia, but I have to admit that her romance plot was shit, especially in the beginning.
>Get verbally abused by an ungrateful bitch until she jumps on your cock, because of what? Your lack of self-respect to tell her to stop with the insults?
>If you do just that, she gets mad and leaves.
I'm finishing up BG1EE; I haven't encountered any bugs, the gameplay is smooth. Also at first I didn't enjoy the new content, but I realized the vanilla companions have pretty much no dialogues, and I have been enjoying the new ones.
Yes.
Planet escape torment did it first
Bravo Avellone!
I had the opposite. I completely ignored all the romances and skipped through dialoges clicking the edgiest options when i was 12. Now I'm rediscovering that game feeling that I'm mature enough to understand true beauty of this game. Now I ended up playing baldurs gate between my irl rpg sessions over and over with various mods and options. I'm still not bored.
>discovering the dungeon-be-gone mod
It was a good day.
Chateu irenicus is fun on SCS. Why remove it?
I only wish that genie quest would not require so much backtracking.
>look up SCS
>"Prevents Resting in the Illithid City"
PANIC
>loot a mind control in the planar prison
>ha ha I bet it can't even be equipped
>put on charname
>controls are now completely stripped away from you and you have to sit and watch as you attack and fight your companions until you die
11/10 GOTYAY
That's optional.
>Go through all that effort to save his marriage
>he leaves his wife and kids anyway
Faerun isn't fair, lads.
That guy is retarded. He lived in the same city as his family but he still didn't visit them for a long time until her wife was cheating on him.
>Every "romance" in BG2 was fucking trash
>didn't romance Anomen
>playing western shit
Holy fuck just go back to the shithole you came from.
Why won't you kill yourself you weeb piece of trash?
No, romance in CRPG aint bad per see, Sawyer and Avellone are just lazy fucks or just not bothering thinking any deeper about it. I saw nothing of them explaining why romance would dimnish a character and they never explained anything in more depth.
Fact of the matter is that romance in CRPG is more complex and harder to write since it has to take the fact that the main character can be any sort of personality into account. That Sawyer said "Self-insert" shows his lack of understanding of how RPG works and what it's meant to be. Sure, you can self-insert, but that's hardly the rule.
>no romances are better than shitty romances because the latter fucks up the entire character.
Explain how it ruins a character. No one went into detail about this, they just said "It ruins the character" but doesn't explain why.
I'll tell you fucking why, it's a fucking excuse. You don't ruin a character through romance unless you write it badly. A character can be opposed to romance or not seek companionship of course, but even then it's possible to write a good romance out of it.
What differs is how it's approached and the time, effort and so forth that it may take for a character to get romantically involved. I mean for fuck sake, this isn't fairy tale love we're talking about, no one is destined to be with a single, specific person.
But it's easier to say "It ruins the character" than say "I don't know how to write it well given the large amount of possibilities and dialogue options with the PC".
I guess the simplest solution to making good romance with customizable characters would be to have the player choose specific character traits for their character that will have an effect in the story and character interactions.
>playing with companions
ELVES GET OUT REEEEEEEMAAAAAAN
>You don't ruin a character through romance unless you write it badly
And when most of them are written badly you can see why people start getting tired of them.
How the fuck are you even supposed to make time for Jaheira romance? I finished SoA doing pretty much everything other than gathering some obscure shit from Cromwell and Jaheira's neverending banter was still at the vague tsundere part.
Just install some mod that makes lovetalks appear more often?
All the romances are finnicky as fuck, but Jaheira's is doubly so.
If all else fails, speed up time or use console commands. Though I feel like a bunch of it is tied to bits in the story, like the shit with the Harpers.
I left my game sitting on for 3 days straight waiting for all the dialogue.
I'm playing ToB right now. Will I have to do this again to get Jaheira to talk to me?
He's clearly into men.
