The way I see it, people remember OoT fondly because it had such powerful atmosphere. Things like music, visuals, and other small details make more of an impression on young minds than writing or gameplay mechanics. Because the gameplay isn't special by any means, and the story isn't either. But its presentation was out of this fuckin world for 1998.
