Age of Mythology is an awful RTS. Its fantastic if you like basic references to Mythological things but tactics wise its incredibly boring. Early game is a rush straight to the 2nd era where you can actually get units, then you either commit to rushing an army and trying to knock out enemies early game, or play defensively until you can rush your titan. Once your titan is up you wipe one or two players then it goes down, at which point you unit spam with your myth units and have an defense of counter-myth units. No resource scaling for spamming units as well so fucking gold collsi every at the end. Not to mention that end game is easily possible to peter out of resources.

It doesnt do any of the nations it features justice either, only using creatures that are common known. Its more of a showcase of "look I have this cool Egyptian sphinx" than a game that actually embraces the cultures it wants to show.

tl;dr AoM is more show for cool than it is tactics and game.

On a side note, I purchased the RoN soundtrack so I could rip the files and put them in my copy so I can have actual quality instead of the compressed revisions the Steam release came with but I no fucking disc drive nor any computer that does.

I feel bad when I have them eat gold. I mean, it's a waste of precious gold!

Halo Wars wasn't terrible, even good as far as console RTS games go, but it didn't make megabucks (wow, a console RTS not selling particuarly well), so that was goodbye Ensemble.

They did this with Supreme Commander 2 for XBox 360

they work, and they're okay. but they're also extremely dumbed down, because they're for consoles. (obviously) and the pc version is exactly the same as the console one, at least for halo wars 2 it is. I wouldnt necessarily mind a new aoe on console/pc but it wouldnt be something that grips me for hundreds of hours like aoe 2/aom did.

Go see how Red Alert 3 is played on console

Myth units get countered super hard by heroes.
Heroes do a boatload of bonus damage to myths unless you're playing as egyptaloids.
Heroes rip them up like tissue paper.

it's hard to say, I mean it's all the usual. group units or buildings with ctrl +1, move them around with right click, etc, but coming back from starcraft 2 it just kinda feels off.
