I wonder how much of that is going to be non-action time. Already half of the 7 and MoC is gathering materials and doing dumb sidequests.

>half of Seven
>gathering materials + sidequests
I stopped worrying about the latter around midgame and made it a habit to farm material spawns when going through dungeons, not much problem at all. Out of 30 hours maybe 1-2 actually consists of time used on materials. About as much I spent equipping the party and getting levels on members' top skills later on. Celceta might well be worse, but Seven's the other recent Ys game Falcom can use as a reference if they figured parts of Celceta were rushed and/or lacking.

Ys is one of my favorite series but I'm finding it hard to care. 7 was ok, Celceta was fine, but they really need to either bring back the Napishtim engine or make a new one.

I hope it's not 20+ hours of cutscenes. I liked Ys games being a fun, dense 10-12 hours

60 hours? Celceta only took me 30 to finish a single run almost 100% (missed some random corner of a map.

>tfw going to jdk Ys 8 promotion concert in Taiwan
Any message from the Western fans?

It's a shame it's going to be just ok-ish because of the Ys Seven / Celceta gameplay style. I wish they did another VI / III / Origins game with modern graphics.

Are they only releasing it on one platform or are they going to let everyone play it?

And the worst.

is the series any good? which one should I start with?

Coming out on vita this month i believe then ps4 in 2017
No words on localization

Just play the 3 "modern" ones that are on Steam. If you really want more of the series after that then get 1&2.

Engine doesn't matter, it's the style and philosophy that's changed to fit a new market. We don't net Falcom as much revenue as even Chinese players, therefore our game design priorities aren't as important...right now. Maybe if everyone buys XSEED's release of Xanadu Next will Falcom notice we love that kind of game and can make a new one viable.

To Kondo: Please consider making a new Xanadu game, perhaps a sequel to Next, or a detailed remake of the 1985 game.

Also, more Zanmai albums so we can get definitive and alternative versions of cool music.

>hasn't played Ys V

Great, interesting series for sure.

If you're not adverse to learning a really old game's quirks, enjoying a quick pace and well-developed world, try I & II Chronicles+. A lot of people recommend to start with Origin and Felghana, both on GOG and two of the most polished, revered games in the series. I think starting with Napishtim is just as good an idea if you can handle some jank, since Felghana/Origin bested Napishtim mechanically and in many other ways.

Oath in Felghana on PC (for 60 fps) or PSP (for 30 fps but Voice Over). Perfect starting point, in my opinion.

Gonna be honest with you upfront: I'm a huge Ys nerd. All the Ys games are fantastic, save V which isn't available on Steam (Super Famicom & PS2 only). It's only decent.

This is Ys V, so you know what the worst looks like as well: youtube.com/watch?v=qGZyHU8msjs

>hasn't played Ys IV on SNES
SHUT UP IT'S SHITTY AS FUCK, THE WORST GAME EVER!

They're both worse than Celceta ofc

Then play it on VITA, where it is glorious.

Is Celceta decent?

Ys IV on PC ENGINE is the best!

Tom?

The PC Engine Ys IV is the best version of the game. Best designs too.

New Carna a shit. PC Engine Carna a bes.

man, Adol looks like a fag once and for all.
What a shame.

That already happened in Celceta.

>Celceta
That's the VITA version of Ys IV, which has NO relation to Ys IV: Mask of the Sun or Ys IV: Dawn of Ys. Neither of those games were made by Falcom, so Ys: Memories of Celceta is the "official" Ys IV.

But to answer your question: Yes, Ys: Memories of Celceta is a very good game.

I haven't played Celceta yet, but reactions to it run a gamut from worst-thing-ever to damn great. Most players who tried other Ys games before or after wouldn't put it at the top of their rankings, though.

No. I don't sign my posts the way he does. He's busy clarifying XSEED's game project approval process/tendencies at their forums.

They don't even use pic related in-game, lol.

He looks cool here, though I think the promo artist (and/or character designer) over-embellished a lot of these designs.

Is ark Ys V or VI?

...

VI

Ys V doesn't have a modern release, see

>I haven't played Celceta yet, but reactions to it run a gamut from worst-thing-ever to damn great. Most players who tried other Ys games before or after wouldn't put it at the top of their rankings, though.
Of course, it's still better than 99% of similar genre games on the market today.

That first video hurts my eyes to watch.

>vita exclusive

Can they stop

People are still on the trails of cold steel is good meme?

Probably the worst and most boring RPG i've ever played

I want to dana her lacrimosa

It's not though, just being released on the vita about a year or so before the PS4 version.

>Please consider making a new Xanadu game
But there's Tokyo Xanadu :^)

>vita has no games
>what the fuck vita stop getting games
No pleasing you cry babys is there

First it was Faxanadu, now it's Toxanadu stealing Xanadu's thunder. What a world.

>60 hours
If that's gonna be just backtracking like seven. Then fuck that noise.

Really dont like this Adol design.

Not just backtracking, Clash of Clans bass building, Fallout 4 villager collecting will pad the game.

I am okay with this. I like games within games.

>Clash of Clans
You again. Never mind that it's an expanded version of Ys Origin's arena mode.

By the way, all optional, included for the Japanese Sen kiddies who don't usually play Ys games.

Oh..right. That too.

>all optional,
Collectathon, quests, and upgrading for max weapon in Seven and Cecelta are all optional too, that doesnt mean they're not padding

>Went from armored Adol to Hoody Adol to Dress Adol

Where did it all go wrong?

I didn't need max weapons for Seven and that probably helped the challenge level for the final boss. Materials and sub-quests in that game weren't that critical for getting through in a timely manner, and I didn't mind stopping for the occasional loot while going through dungeons. As for padding, there's a lot of things Falcom's done, past and present, to space their games, but they didn't skimp on bosses, dungeon design, and fun mobs to fight in Seven. VIII's new stuff is based on systems introduced in Toxanadu and Sen II, mostly easy to import while we're being given a new solo-style part where you play Dana. There's something for everyone.

I think Falcom's giving an overestimation of VIII's length for PR hype, though it'll be at least Seven's runtime for most players.

Seven got it all right. You can use the Silver Armor in Ys VIII as a skin.

>Not liking /fa/ Adol

>Adol is now red haired Kirito
Pauldrons, armor, and shield fell out of style it seems

He looks like Elliot with red hair instead of orange in VIII

The armor was practical and looked really nice

...

Anime was a mistake

>armor on top of what is just his normal shirt, now retextured to pure red
>NO SHIELD

absolutely DISGUSTING
