Diablo 3 is geared toward casual players...

Diablo 3 is geared toward casual players, Diablo 2 is geared towards players investing their time into the game and effort into the game.

Nah.

Ever since Enigma became a thing, D2 became a casual's paradise.

If you want a real "hardcore" ARPG, just play PoE and spend hours rolling bricks that have no use unless you look up a guide.

I love Diablo II. But part of the reason I love it is that it isn't a time investment. You can play it casually, a few hours a day or even taking a month off and then coming back to it.

Diablo III just tried to cater to the same audience as WoW. Blizzard overlooked that people wanted to play a Diablo game to be something different from WoW. Instead, they made it WoW in real time.

Necro is my bro

You can do the same shit in D3, what the fuck are you even on about?

no shit

And Diablo 1 is geared to being an actual game and not pandering to anyone. This is the progression of all games and gaming over time actually

>game starts at max level
mob scales with you, wheres the progression?
eternally run rift, up difficulty, run, up difficulty to tailor to your needs
I miss getting ass rapped by random double immune super fast viper with invisible knockback poison bone spear.

this
D2 is fun no matter what you're fucking doing. Playing as a shitty ass level 12 with shit gear has the same value as playing as a fully geared level 95 god character--it's always fun. Blizzard North mastered the art of progression and replay value. Fuck activision

Diablo 3 is just "WoW: Edgy Isometric Edition"

the art is just fucking godawful. What happened to gothic?

>Enigma
That's an ultra rare item, fucking impossible to get but if you say its a common thing then Sure!

>I miss getting ass rapped by random double immune super fast viper with invisible knockback poison bone spear.
That has nothing to do with what you said here: WoW doesn't even have level scaling.

You can actually do that with a lot of games, but none come close to being as fun as playing an hour of d2 was.

Diablo II and III can both be played casually. But they are not similar in gameplay by any stretch. And Diablo III is clearly trying to cater to the WoW audience, not the people who like Diablo games. Hence why there's been so many other groups trying to make a 'true' Diablo sequel (Path of Exile, Torchlight, Grim Dawn, etc).

>Enigma is considered ultra-rare.
Sup Forums really is the worst fucking place.

...

>this super rare item that cannot ever be gotten by solo players makes the game casual.
>never mind the level 66+ minimum requirement.

Yeah man running that Bhaal enemy waves, leaving without even killing the boss and doing the same, every 5 minutes, for 3 weeks until you're 99 is such an amazing gaming experience.

The best thing about Diablo 3 is that there is some variety at least in the mobs and environments where you grind. In Diablo 2 you never see 90% of the tilesets after finishing the game.

Yeah, Man. When i was playing Diablo 2 in like 2003 it was enigma front and center you'd get it like every drop.

I mean i couldn't get any other item but enigma.

I got a ton of life out of Diablo 3 because I put my own limitations on the game. The rift system took all challenge out of the endgame because your hero can be juuuust good enough to do 55 but not good enough for 57, so that's what you play on. Who fucking cares.

I just made my own little hardcore challenges, like only use items I pick up (no crafting), use a shitty main skill instead of a min-maxed build, never repair my items and throw them away when they break, etc. Expected lifespan of one of my heroes was 2 hours - 1 week, once they died they were dead forever.

And it was way more fun than I've ever had trying to grind for Ancient items so I could maybe do Greater Rift 74 instead of 72.

unless you started playing in 1.12 enigma was pretty god damn expensive when it came out. Not ULTRA rare, but still expensive as fuck when each HR was worth 3 ists and each ist was 3 ums

>Trading and level to 66 means the item is super rare and requires a ton of effort to get.
The years have gone by and even idiots that whine that games are too casual are fucking casuals now.

please user, contain your boner

>ruining SoJ with a bunch of random elements when its trademark was the +1 all skills
A damn shame

>In Diablo 2 you never see 90% of the tilesets after finishing the game.
>this was my experience therefore that's what everyone did

It's not rare at all, you must interact with people to get it, and be of a very high level to use it.

Casuals and shit players will never do either.

post more diablorgasms

>Ethereal

Into the trash it goes.

>i sold yellow stuff, because i was too young to understand this shit in 2001

it would be rare if people didnt cheat
i played diablo 2 for years and never saw a high rune drop

>1874+142
>not playing median xl
still the best arpg out there

Never say never, I built every runeword possible (you can't do ladder runewords on single player) in the game on singleplayer with no mods or +droprate active. I also got 2 level 99s post 1.10 on single, and probably hundreds or at least dozens pre-1.10. The only mod I ever used was shared stash, because it's not possible to xfer in single player obviously, and building runewords without being able to trade between your characters would have been prohibitively difficult. And yes, I did find even Zods.

I played D2 for 8 years, and at the peak of my addiction played an average of 150 hours a week, with my peak straight playtime at 198 hours (I was aiming for 200 but had a series of mild heart attacks so I had to lay down for a few hours and rest).

Never underestimate autism-tier addiction.

That's what zod is for bro

>whats a zod rune

If you did anything other than Bhaal runs, you were playing the game wrong.
Or pindleskin with a bot.

>quit D2 due to heart attacks.

I was gonna write how you're a man worth my respect, but now I'm not so sure. Whatever happened to that eternal conviction you'd see in chinamen and swedish counter-strike players, who literally suffered heart attacks and death seated at their computers?

>mfw I found a bow slightly better than carrion song

>he doesn't know about zod bug

Diablo games are mostly singleplayer experiences, with the only multiplayer component being the rare trade for better gear.

Investment of time and effort into a singleplayer game is a waste. 95% of them are good enough for one fire and forget playthrough, the best of them 4 or 5 replays at most.

what are ladder resets and pvp

>Investment of time and effort into a singleplayer game is a waste
what, its change nothing

its hard to find but youll get it eventually its not hard you can also trade ez for it

>Investment of time and effort into a singleplayer game is a waste.

Those fags usually give up at 2-3 days, you realize 198 hours is over 8 days straight playtime, right? If I died who would hold my ladder spot? I went to a lot of effort to stay ahead of that character in #2 slot who was being controlled by 3 people on shifts. That nigger even was paying people to find him EXP shrines, it was hard as fuck staying ahead of him.
I should have screenshotted my necro's level 98 amulet, but that one is amazingly good for orb/es, god damn.

>66
>very high level

it takes about an hour to get to 66 if you have help. 3 if you do not

This shit is actually rarer than zod runes now.

>yfw you're gonna find 10 zod runes before you find a single TM.
>yfw zod runes are already so rare only dedicated zod farmers and bots can find them reliably.

>Investment of time and effort into a singleplayer game is a waste.
what kind of fuckinf game did you play when you grewing up to have this warped up mentality

>mfw life is a singleplayer game

Alright, senpai. Get back to me when you can find a normie, casual, or shit player who's able to reach level 66 in any way whatsoever, gather the runes, gather the proper armor, and then insert them in the correct order.

anyone else just miss the unique exceptional items in Diablo 2? They were obviously outclassed but the things they could do were really cool.

i mean like plaguebearer and hexfire shamshir? all that cool stuff.

i only wish they had better magical properties because then you could use the horadric cube and upgrade the base weapon from one level to the next like exceptional to elite.

Yeah I mean like, who would want Increase Maximum Mana by 25%, plus scales with player level

I found 16 Templar's Mights off of hell baal. I want to say Tyrael's is the only item I never found, I even found a CoA before. It was shit, but still an incredibly rare find. I think Windforce was the hardest pre 1.10, and I found 2 of those off of pindle.

>with occasional shitty co-op

normies didn't play diablo 2 back in the day. the 'video games are satanic' thing was still in full swing back then

>200% def
>eth
>upped
you fucking wot

get fucking comfy boys

this is what real nostalgia sounds like

youtube.com/watch?v=OO-vG8oPhhM

>the excitement when starting a new character
>the excitement when you found your first legendary or set item
>the excitement when you got level 6 18 24 and 30
>that excitement when you got your first full set bonus
>that excitement when someone gifts you a shit torch, but its your first, so it is the best thing ever

it will never be 2001 again friends

>you will NEVER use stones of Jordan as currency ever again for any reason.
>you will never have a stash full of SoJs for trading purposes.

My older bro found one of these fuckers near hellforge. I went on his account to look at it and almost got scammed/hacked by some other player
>mfw I averted an ass-beating

>Yeah man running that Bhaal enemy waves, leaving without even killing the boss and doing the same, every 5 minutes, for 3 weeks until you're 99 is such an amazing gaming experience.

To be honest, this is the reason why hardcore is so much fun. Just when you think the game is on autopilot, some shit gets the jump on you and fucks you up, then the next thing you know you are looking at the ghost of your level 85. I died at level 87 and while most of it is being boosted, rushing, grinding, joining 50 Baal games, it's the real life persistence while death watches over you 24/7 is the real fun for me.

>they didn't put "+1 to All Skills" on there as a throwback because normies would've gotten confused and REEE'd

>Diablo 3 is geared toward casual players, Diablo 2 is geared towards players investing their time into the game and effort into the game.
thanks for the info.

>find single item for x character
>start new x character

admit it you guys did this

>legendary

*unique

I wish D3 had a legit Necromancer not a fucking queer witch doctor

>tfw you kill baal after everyone leaves

This thread reminded how I pretty much screwed my younger brother out of diablo back in '98. He bought it at walmart and showed it to my dad asking to install it on out shitty win98 pc. Dad noticed the M rating and asked me what it was. Explained the whole rating system and ended up getting the game for myself.

Saw the d2 thread the other day and installed in again. Currently lvl 20ish skelly necro on act 3 and still having fun.

I could never ever stand hardcore.
It's the same boring grinding, except randomly lag makes you start all over again.

I threw away 3 socket grey helms and armor just this past season because I'm a fucking idiot.

I have a friend who lost, count them, 5 level 98s. ALL TO THE SAME SHIT. Fucking lister glitch is brutal on HC, because characters have to be built in a way that the glitch specifically takes advantage of and you always get 1shot by it. The way it works is, the more max HP you have, the more damage it does; it happens at the fire splash on death from extra strong fire enchanted lister. You can only survive it if you have low max HP (as in, around 3K), 75%+ fire resist and fire absorb%.

>and life-long escort mission

Necromancer is comfiest character and class in any arpg to this day. I can literally not get tired of it. I must have made 100 if not more necromancer in all the years I played this and even now and then when I replay I just roll up a new one.

>depriving another human being of experiencing d2 as a kid

you sick monster

I only ever play if I can get at least one guy with me. It's still fun singleplayer but fuck that I want to raid a tomb with some buds

what's the scariest Diablo track?

youtube.com/watch?v=kjXEx825xig

Not Diablo 2 m8, Diablo.

this thread is making me want to play again

should i make
>javazon
>zealer
>classic hammerdin
>orb sorc for mf
>trapsin

Does anyone on Sup Forums care about the original Diablo?

...

I agree. I have tried to play all the classes, but I always return to necromancer. Where other people find it boring, I find it more fun to play. And I hate how every other Diablo like game puts shitty timers on their summons.

not being able to run in town ruined it

youtube.com/watch?v=1cH8ZwL3A7Q

>Diablo II
>Hard and needs time investment
Pick one you filthy casual

I had tons more fun in D2 then what I had in D3
the only thing I absolutely fucking hated in D2 was how the number 5 looked like 6
triggered my autism every time I saw it

i would but ive played necros to death, almost every type

I could make you a tier list of every class and subclass in the game, but the thread would be gone by the time I was done. Just play bonesummoner if SP or novasummoner if MP and you want to 7v1 scrubs.

This is why I always play a ranged character, helping the party out with damage from afar. I'm not an amazing player, I've never gotten my hands on a SoJ, Zod, or whatever since playing in the early 2000s. So naturally, I am a pussy ass leech who takes hands outs from pros but I love being able to accomplish something on my own terms like reaching level 85+ through determination and persistence, while I pass by the git gud corpses on my way up the season ladder. This game is so fucking good that anyone can define their own success, whether it be softcore, hardcore, racing as a pro, racing as a scrub through sheer luck and survival, or playing with private friends. You can't really do this with Diablo 3, among many of its other problems. All those conquest achievements are fucking cancer, the greater rift leaderboards are cancer.

>play d2 again 1-2 years ago
>empty room slots everywhere
>1-2 games in normal mode if I'm lucky
>once active channels are now empty / full of bots

Make a top 10 then.

youtube.com/watch?v=0v829LHb4ys

I can see what you see not—
Vision milky, then eyes rot.
When you turn, they will be gone,
Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be—
Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind,
Cast down into the Halls of the Blind.

How does that ruin a game?

should have played like two month or so ago with the ladder reset, shit was alive.

>That one Guild Wars update where they placed a cap on minions

fuck that casual shit

make a poison werewolf druid, a zeal sorc

or a summoning necro :^)

im starting from nothing i cant make those lol

summon necro ive done a million times, idk maybe

Diablo 3 wouldn't be geared towards casuals of casuals didn't flock to Diablo 2.

>tfw no games have Necromancers anymore

>post yfw when he maxed skeleton mages instead of amplify damage

yes/no?

I like the one that sounds like a marching band
I read a youtube comment saying they speculated the band music stops abruptly because they got fucked by the demons
