Dishonored
>tfw stealth games are a dead genre
I'm going through all of the MGS games, playing ones I haven't and replaying the ones I have. Good fucking times, matey
Errrrrrrrr I've startedone Thief (haven't played it in a couple weeks)
>MGS games
>stealth games
This is why the genre is dead.
New Thief. Already beat the original 3
WHY ARE WE WHISPERING, GUYS?
IS THERE A REASON WHY WE'RE WHISPERING?
nice meme
Started a new game in Dishonored but keep getting sidetracked by other things. Kind of want to play some more Thief fan missions but I'll probably get sidetracked from that too.
I played styx las month
Was fun
This is why I don't play stealth games anymore. When you finish the good old ones, you are pretty much done. There are a few good stealth games released after 2010 (Styx, Hitman 2016) but most stealth games nowadays are stealth-action hybrids that don't punish you for being detected.
I liked Styx. Great art style, environments and mostly good infiltration levels. Detection ususally means instant death, on hard anyway. Stuff like enemies often only having 2-3 different faces and voices got annoying, but it's very decent overall.
Stealth is for non-operators.
They're both fun. Also operator games typically have at least some semblance of stealth in them. Playing SWAT 3 right now and it's pretty damn fun.
Remember, stealth means, "DON'T GET SEEN!"
NOBODY BETTER BE TAFFIN' AROUND DOWN HERE
Depends on what you want to consider stealth I suppose.
Would trying to be unseen in ARMA/DayZ count as you move from sniper spot to sniper spot or trying to loot?
...
Dishonored DLC
is it true that you can import your saves to Dishonored 2?
Gameplay > realism
>ctrl+f
>styx
>4 occurences found
I'm proud of you.
Only thing I really hated about Styx was the forced "fall to death" height. If you're falling for a certain period of time you'd trigger the "falling to death" event. And even if there's floor beneath you, you'll still glitch through it.
Otherwise a really nice stealth game.
Been playing Deus Ex: HR
>just going through the story
>here do this DLC where we take everything you had away from you
>build yourself from the ground up again
t-thanks
HITMAN 2016
P fun with everything off
this is my first time playing a hitman game without a walkthrough so I tried to be as harsh as I can with myself
Still savescum though
it wasn't even that bad, if anything it makes you try new things.
>Tfw switching from DLC to base game
Corvo's blink feels so SHIT compared to Daud's
I finished Dishonored a few days ago and I've moved into Styx, pretty good modern stealth games, going to re run Theif soon. Should be good fun, is there any mods I should grab? Or just go vanilla?
So, do you guys actually do iron mode runs where you stick to whatever happens in your missions, or do you reload your saves like pussy ass faggots every time you're detected?
>Corvo feels so SHIT compared to Daud
ftfy
DLC was so much more fun because Daud actually has an interesting character and is not a mute who gets pushed around by others and bends to their ways.
If you've never played them with the New Dark patch do that. TFix for Thief 1 and TafferPatcher for Thief 2. It updates them for modern systems.
Other than that I can't think of too many mods that aren't just fan missions.
If I want to have no detections for the whole game, then I'll savescum
Otherwise, I take it up the ass
Ground Zeros was okay. TPP sucked, though.
I tried playing Blacklist as was put off by how there was no alert system and guards in each area didn't react to you going loud in previous areas. The missions felt like they belonged in a Ghost Recon game.
Boktai, baby
Currently started playing through Thief 2: The Metal Age.
Not much to say about it. Wish there was a modern version of it.
Sam Fisher games.
I wish someone (NOT UbiSoft) just made a game on a decent engine, with loads more possibilities for stealth.
It isn't as bad as I thought it would be, so far at least.
Its just pretty annoying when you go to stealth through some gas or go to hack something and you just end up failing really badly without the augs you're used to.
Will I get my 70 sniper and revolver ammo back when I finish the DLC?
Payday 2. The stealth is very different, but I enjoy it very much, its a very mobile type of stealth. Shame there are so few heists that have fun stealth.
>Payday 2
>The stealth is very different
>its a very mobile type of stealth
>Shame there are so few heists that have fun stealth
in terms of the ratio of loud heists to stealth heists you fucking weeb
I roll with it in the first run then reset at much as I need to ghost the levels in the next playthrough
Games that kill you in 1/2 hits pretty much reload for you 2bh
Dishonored is hardly a stealth game, it's got a detection system and that's about it.
By this logic we can call Uncharted and Far Cry stealth games too, but even those don't give you the ability to teleport behind enemies just to make the stealth that extra bit futile.
Payday 2 is like Assassin's Creed MP in that it would be great if people actually played it stealthily but everyone just rushes in instead. And you kinda need a team that knows what they're doing or be on voice communications.
Far Cry 3 and 4 actually DOES have a stealth system underneath it.
The AI behaves appropriately as AI enemies would in a stealth game - The problem is that your character quickly becomes so powerful that it's made redundant.
Might as well kill this thread then unless people really want to talk about the same 4 games that are 10+ years old. There aren't any stealth games on par with Chaos Theory, Thief 1/2, or the earlier Hitman games. Styx at least has similar mechanics but imo is a pretty mediocre game that could use better execution of what it wants to do.
Stealth is dead and if you don't want to talk about similar games then these threads should just stop being made.
>Buy Thief Gold
>Crashes on training
>Can still play the main game
>No idea what I'm doing
Played Wolfenstein Old Blood last night. It was a bit stealthy.
I wish I could go full ironman on first playthroughs but sometimes I'm like "fuck man that was way too sloppy" and gotta reset.
Been meaning to do Thief Gold and Chaos Theory ironman style.
Yeah, the games are so old that they have issues on modern systems. Using TFix for Thief 1 and TafferPatcher for Thief 2 will fix all issues and bring them up to par compatibility wise with modern games.
Basically someone found the Thief 1, 2, and SS2 source codes on a Dreamcast as they were in the process of being ported to it when LGS went under. Either the guy that found it or someone else used the source code to release a patch fixing the games on modern systems. I don't think they released the source code though, which sucks.
At least you can progress through the entire game without engaging in any combat whatsoever, so it's a step up from anything else recent.
yeah you will
MGSV.
Stealth is great in the game but the amount of gadgets really make the game too easy, too early.
>tfw no modern day stealth game a la thief where you burglarize people's homes for things like jewelery, drugs, firearms and cash
Anyone here played Shadwen? How did that one turn out?
The Dark Mod was just updated to 2.04 yesterday, still haven't tried it though.
Man I'd really like a contemporary Thief.
Pokemon go
Dark Mod is fucking great, the lockpicking is really fun imo.
Mark of the Ninja, enjoyed it quite a bit.
It's 2d stealth so maybe not very appealing. But it does what it does very well.
Friendly reminder MGS games are bad stealth games
btw I'm playing Chaos Theory, still gold
>Friendly reminder MGS games are bad stealth games
They're Tactical Espionage Action games
yeah. a remake of 1/2. why is no one doing this? they work for 10 years on half life but no one cares about thief.
It's shit don't find a excuse, Kojidrone
The swindle.
2d stealth game, probably the best version of a stealth I've played. Incredibly difficult with a 1 alarm you're fucked game but you can buy upgrades that makes the game playable, then it keeps rolling by making the higher levels require more money, but you get more money on harder missions etc.
Incredibly janky though and it can infuriate when it fucks up. Very fun though and I would recommend it definitely.
how did MGS become king of the stealth game throne while Splinter Cell was off in the corner, slinking in the shadows, unseen by the masses
Says so right on the box dude
Developers just don't experiment nowadays with different genres. They just play it safe and do what brings in the money.
People who say it was the same in the 90's just don't get it. Things become corrupt/casualized/greedy over time.
So what's some B-level stealth vidya?
Stuff that might've been overlooked or isn't as great as Thief/SC/etc. but still playable
Your mom
Death to Spies 1&2 instantly jumps to mind.
>no handholding
>able to drive around certain neighborhoods and monitor each home to see if they're soft targets
>must take real world things into account such as how well lit the home is at night, people's work schedule, noticing their garbage cans are sitting outside for days on end indicating that they're out of town
>can call bluffs on notices on lawns that state a home has a security alarm system
>some wealthy neighborhoods have security patrols with erratic patrol routes
>patrols can increase if you burgalize too many homes at a regular interval
>name of the game is to think like a scumbag and carefully scope out a home to burgalize
Styx
Probably several stealth games from 6th gen.
Because of "muh story", "muh mecha" n shit. For example nobody cares about Thief games, and yet these are wonderful games.
dis
Sneak king
>end up going bankrupt because you only steal panties
The point was calling it a stealth game at all is something only a grade A bell-end would do
I really wanted to like this game, but the controls felt so clunky that I just couldn't play it for frustration, controls are the #1 most important thing in a stealth game to me.
finished the first splinter cell a couple of weeks ago, should i play the rest, are they on par with the first one?
>be playing Thief deadly shadows
>complete one mission
>check objectives
>nothing new
>realise I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next
>spend hours trying to figure it out
>wonder if I'm dumb, or if game is bugged
>decide to watch playthrough videos to be sure
>they all skip the part of the game where I'm stuck
Then I just gave up. This is the only game I still haven't finished.
Pandora Tomorrow is much like the first, and Chaos Theory is one of the greatest stealth vidya of All Time.
Double Agent is alright (apparently 'last gen' xbox version is superior, both Ubisoft studios developed their own Double Agent and for some reason the A-team got the shittier platform to develop for)
Conviction and Blacklist are whatever.
Hits a peak with Chaos Theory.
Double Agent was a mess
Conviction was more an action game.
Blacklist was kinda fun to ghost but overall too easy, and no Ironside
I disagree. MGS2 is a great game for faster-paced stealth in tight levels. It's just not about that for the whole game, which is unfortunate.
Why not both?. It think it can be done.
did you play the xbox 1 version? it was alright.
Double Agent on original Xbox was a fundamentally different game than the one on 360.
It's a solid title on Xbox HUEG
Loved this pic.
so is deus ex. what kind of stealth game has rocket launchers?
Oh god don't remind me about the new "ghost recon" game. EA ruins stuff because they're greedy and trying to be activision but are too incompetent to pull it off, while ubisoft is just plain incompetent.
Tenchu: Stealh Assassin
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
its hard to make good ai
i think AI just needs to be effective for it to be fun and good
>make noise, they react to noise
>they see you relative to visibility, theyll probably dismiss it or go alert
realistically its impossible to get "realistic" ai because it would be too game breaking
Metro 2033 has some fantastic moody stealth.
because they let you experience the game as first person shooter instead of a stealth game
>Open task manager
>Find Thief.exe
>right click
>Set CPU affinity to just 1 core
strong story incentive would be nice. was disappointed in gta V when you pay off your debt so soon. figured that'd be the whole story.
Its already set to 1 core.
hiding in plain sight
any more games that offer this?
hitman, assasin's creed and even metal gear solid can offer some of this (mgs3 with the scientist gear and mgs portable ops)
they're not pure stealth. I find it funny when someone criticizes HR/MD for being too "action oriented", when the series has always been like that.
Clever enviornments and solid, varied game mechanics could easily overcome these issues.
You're right, as it stands now, no game would survive realistic, thinking AI.
Well, you could make the AI realistic, but also make the character skillful and resourceful enough to overcome it.
nope, that's it.
