I think there's good and bad designs in every gen. I think people freak out too much over some designs. I think people put too much into "gen one was perfect everything since sucked."

He's an electric ghost that possesses electronic devices and controls them. He has a bunch of different forms depending on the device. It's a good way to do different forms of a Pokemon aside from one->two->three evolution, and it's got character.

There are a bunch a genuinely bad designs in the newer gens but i can never understand why people hate on Klefki, Vannilite and Chandelure just because they're based on inanimate objects

gen 2 had some great pokemon

A lot of mega evolutions ran into the problem that, instead of designing the next step in the evolution, they took the current design and thought "how do we make this...more?" But the design was already pretty complete, so most megas are just over-designs that added more horns/edges/stripes.
I don't necessarily think it was that there were done by bad designers, just that the overarching design concept from the start backed them into a corner.
