How were you supposed to know to blast away the wall?
How were you supposed to know to blast away the wall?
There's coins up there
Fuck off, Egoraptor.

I think the name of the mission is "break the wall!" or something. And do you see any other cannon lying around the level?
I wonder?
BUT WHICH WALL!?
That could be any wall, and "blast away" does not implicit launching yourself at a wall out of a cannon. Even worse since you're supposed to "blast away" just a corner of a wall and aiming anywhere else at that one specific wall won't work.
Well if you're going to blast away the wall you're obviously going to blast it away piece by piece.
you probably weren't based on intuition that's why its star 6 and not something like 2 or 3
Fuck me, you mean you had to actually TRY multiple things in older games? WOW like, you didnt have arrows or markers at every quest point or objective? thats crazy! omg new games are so easy compared to that. thank god!
>tfw if this was Sunshine or Galaxy you'd HAVE to do that star to beat the game or something instead of just deciding to come back later to figure it out, if you wanted to.
>Blast away
That's the implication that you use a cannon to "blast away" something. Therefore, you're blasting away a wall with the cannon. There's only like 2-4 walls that meet this criteria. It's process of elimination.
>Wanted to be handheld this hard
>Using common sense and rationalization
Wooooow how was I supposed to know about that?
to beat the game in those two, you don't need 100% of the sprites/stars
You're totally right. They should have renamed the stage, "BLAST AWAY THE WALL THAT YOU CAN SEE FROM THE CANNON, A LITTLE TO THE RIGHT, AND THAT YOU STAND UPON JUST BEFORE CROSSING THE ROTATING PLATFORM!"
I think that would have solved a lot of problems.
Though in Sunshine you need to do every shine in a level until Shadow Mario appears.
you'd have the added benefit of the camera looking at where the star is before being able to control your character
Because this told me to.
they used to put at least 1 impossibly retarded shit into each game like shooting the arrow into the sun on OOT, so you would be forced to buy the guide because you couldn't look it up online back in the day
this is the only one of these memey situations i agree with. I had no idea where i was going or what i was doing for that star
Nice strawman. The only thing you are saying is that a long mission title would be ridiculous, which the person you are responding to probably agrees with.
There are solutions other than renaming the mission.
The level design has the cannon in mind. There are only 2 walls you can really hit, you would just have to hit around & eventually you'd hit the side of the wall. If you hit the side of the left one first it'd lead you to hit the other side as well. Also if you hit the slope you'd slide down with no harm. By the way, the shadow in this webm is a emulation error so ignore that.
Sunshine had some shit too
>water the MOON to get a blue coin
>water the SUN to get a shine
No, I'm saying that anyone incapable of figuring out what to do with a little experimentation and logic is a goddamn fucking retard. And so are you for being unable to parse my post. So, since sarcasm and exaggeration are so totally lost on you, I'll be extremely clear:
You're a retard. Please never post again.
>tfw as a kid got this one completely by accident because I spent hours messing with the cannon and was trying to see if I could shoot mario right at the ledge to grab onto it
Actually that one didn't need a guide. There was literally a singular island with a post that said, "shoot the morning sun" or some shit.
There is a clear fucking line there. I wasn't a thick in the console, but it showed anyways
It's been a while since I played on console, so I wasn't sure if that was a emulation error or not also.
There's a huge difference between being handheld and the game leading the player to something via clarity and suggestion. This is just really vague.
Somebody actually went through the trouble of making this webm for OP.
kek
As it should be.
This game is for exploring
From Wii U version right now
I don't think they had kids with mental disabilities in mind for their target audience. At least not back then.
>figuring this out as a non-english speaking kid
Was fun.
>BLAST AWAY
>BLAST
heavily implies Cannons
>THE WALL
>WALL
directly implies wall
just blast all the walls with the cannon nearby, you'll eventually get it
There's visible lines in the original too. Probably won't see them without swinging the camera around but you are going to do that.
Unless you exclusively Mario cam I guess. Then maybe you're fucked if you live under a rock in the boonies
VC and emulated versions all run at higher resolutions than the N64 original.
Fuck all of this obvious shit
How the FUCK was I expected to know to insert the cartridge and press the power button?
Those lines were on n64 as well, even from inside the cannon
fuck this thread tho
>star is called "blast away the wall"
>there is one cannon in the level
>only a couple walls it could even be
>Level exclusively features banzai bill
>Star has absolutely nothing to do with him
>How are you supposed to play the game
>Hurt Durr I want to be handheld to the stars
>b8
I get that you're probably too young to remember, but every nintendo game came with a booklet, and in the back of that booklet there would be a small segment saying "stuck? call the nintendo hotline!" followed by a number. Still pretty lame but a whole lot cheaper than buying a guide.
>only a couple walls it could even be
OP is a baiting retard but this makes no sense. You can blast away any wall. You don't know if the star was in a wall or in a secret room behind a wall you need to break.
you mean this one?
It's not the first time I did it. It's kind of fun since it gives me reason to replay the game.
Just checked on original hardware. You're kind of right, you can only really notice the lines when moving.
these threads are great in a special kind of way
Can confirm. Did it on accident at 5 years old trying to get the 100 coin star.
Yeah, even on Wii U when I checked now, the lines are visible, but vanish as you get closer. It's clearly a bit of a rendering issue but I think it's kind of neat they used that it winds up being the clue you need to find the star.
how were you supposed to know about building speed for twelve hours in order to save half an a-press on watch for rolling rocks?
kids in that day can figure it out, why can't you?
Parallel universe travel where you tell your past self how to do it.
Where do you even go from using the blast away the wall star for this meme? It's not like you can use anything in banjo kazooie or something like that, so what would be next? What could seem more obvious?
see
The seam in the wall is pretty obvious.
i think i actually found that one by accident
How were you supposed to know you can skip the cannon altogether?
The game hinted to shoot the sun. That wasn't even difficult.
Nice. I love learning new shit about old games.
>hinted
The game flat out tells you to, on that same island you need to shoot from.
You can easily tell by the N64's hardware limitations. The part of the wall that you're supposed to bust disappears if you're far enough away, revealing a star.
The mission name literally tells you to shoot there
So what if you didn't? You don't need all 120 stars to beat the game. Completionists earn their reward.
It doesn't flat out tell you.
I legitimately never noticed that, neat.
Son of a bitch.
How were you supposed to know that From Software changed how you open illusory walls?
> never found one in half of my first playthrough because of this
This looks awful
How did you manage to make it look so much like an OG 64?
Do you 2 want me to check? I have OOT on me also if you want.
It is on the original N64. I turned it on after was posted.
BUT FIRST
It tells in form of a very obvious "riddle" text, like "He who shoots at the morning light will be rewarded" or sth. like that.
So like how the hell were you supposed to know you had to look into the sun to get to noki noki bay, in Sunshine?
What kinda crpytic shit was that?
There's a clue in one of those news reports that scroll at the bottom of the screen.
“...D.E.B.S. ALERT...A mysterious band of light has appeared in the area of the city's central dock. Local residents have been spotted gazing curiously up into the sky...”
????????????
Look at &
I remember accidentally figuring this one out.
Was getting mad that I couldn't progress any further, so was just doing everything I could think of that might trigger it. Eventually ended up in the static spray mode and just shot randomly until I happened to look at the sun. Felt stupid afterwards, honestly.
by playing sm64
where you had to look up into the light to get the flight cap
get fucking good Sup Forums, I got that star as a 7 years old who couldn't read english and didn't have acess to the internet or any kind of walkthroughs
Isn't there a big pillar of light where you're supposed to look up? Nintendo was probably expecting you to wonder what's causing the light.
It's not intended, nor is it meant to hint anything. It's a lack of z-buffer accuracy, nothing more.
It's called intuitive intelligence.
