How do i get better at this fucking game

There is not shortcut, you literally just have to play for thousands of hours, the skill ceiling in this game is incredible.
Play all of the tutorials and trials. Play a lot in practice mode. Otherwise, watch others play and learn to do what they do. Also, try changing the controls if you are using default.
>the skill ceiling in this game is incredible
i'm honestly surprised
i was expecting a casual fun time, but instead i got a fucking quake 3
hell, i think i was getting decent at q3 after 30 hours, meanwhile i'm absolute fucking shit at rl
This. You must play more. Once you stop chasing the ball and start anticipating, you'll start having better games.
Don't constantly chase the ball like a toddler. Rotate with your teammates on goal and shots.

Thousands of hours of practice
Jesus Christ, this is higher than SSB levels of autism
The only advanced game mechanic in this game is the aerial movement.
Everything else is what you would call a common sense: knowing how basic physics work, predicting what will your opponent do and being there one step ahead of him.
Am I the only one who sits around the middle of the field while the ball is near the opponent's goal? I get a lot of good shots set up like that but see nobody else doing it.
I did this in real soccer too
There are just so many different elements to learn. Aerials, wall shots, which part of the car to hit the ball with to create different amounts of power and elevation, learning how to dribble, learning how to block effectively, aerial dribbling, and being able to predict how the ball will come off of the walls. It comes from pure experience.
Fuck
there's a tutorial for it called git gud
surprisingly high skill cap game but also very accessible for a bunch of idiots running around trying to score
it's a good game for sure
So I have 10 hours in the game, should I bother touching ranked yet or no?
It's hard to advise when practice and learning is the best solution but some helpful tips
>Don't mindlessly chase the ball
>Regardless of team size you only need one player at any team attempting to hit the ball, any more than one is a detriment since you get in each others way
>Depth is very important, you always want to be a good distance behind the ball so that you can drive into it with power and get distance on it.
>In 2v2 you want one person chasing the ball and one person positioned with depth in a central position where they can both defend a strike and attack a pass.
>If the chasing player is on a wing, resist the temptation to position yourself slightly behind them on the same wing
>Practice aerials but know your limit. Only attempt an aerial at a height you have 90% confidence of making a connection at.
>Practice kickoffs in 1v1, if you ever notice the ball rebounding off a wall and into your own net from a kickoff understand that you've fucked up. It's entirely possible to perform a kick off in both an aggressive and defensive manner, it's worth learning both.
>communicate positively with your teammate, save the bitching until after the game
It's not worth touching ranked until you're about 50 hours in, maybe 100. You'll generally get destroyed. Play until you can consistently pubstomp and then move to ranked.
Also,
>mfw even Sup Forums moreorless unanimously loves Rocket League
>communicate positively with your teammate, save the bitching until after the game
Wow!
>Wow!
Wow!
>Wow!
Wow!
>Wow!
Wow!
>Wow!
Wow!
>Wow!
Wow!
Yes, I don't know how people stand normal mode with everyone leaving all the time.
The first 10 games might have rough spots while they determine your rank but after that you'll be placed in a rank with like skilled people. I would highly encourage not playing anything other than ranked at all times.
seriously?
I do shit like this every match. I lost my controller and Im craving to play so bad.
>They score a goal
>"What a save"
>"What a save"
>Every time
1v1's can be frustrating at first, but i truly believe it is the best way to get better at the game. It really helps you learn positioning and decision making, which is probably 75% of giting gud.
>tfw you first learn to aerial
I'd say 2v2s are better for gitting gud. 1v1 promotes a sort of aggressive style of play that doesn't lend itself well to working with a teammate. However, only having one person to have your back / having their back is good for learning passes and assist goals.
Case in point, I kick ass at attacking and taking possession, but not so good at striking, so I tend to get the ball then run it along the wall / pass it to someone else to strike with.
If you actually "did shit like this every match" you would understand how truly difficult it was. Oh and you'd be a pro player.
It's useful but would agree with
You see a lot of players who have the ability to be good attempting to 1v2 and getting utterly destroyed. It's really important to realise and seemingly difficult for a lot of players to understand that it isn't useful at mid to high levels of ranked play to attempt to solo a team.
>tfw you first get an epic save
Something I'm noticing casually watching good players (read: better than me) with a semi-interested-but-not-very-motivated approach to git gudding at rocket league: they don't full throttle all the time.
so put that with the advice pile
>know when to go slower
Didn't they say that they would add crates?
I love this game, and I recognize my limits.
I know that hardly I'll ever be able to fly like a fucking rocket.
My only complain about this game is the explosion in 1v1 matches.
I thought this aswell, but when I played the enemy team were rookies/experts the whole time, I like free wins but I thought it would be difficult.
They just reset everyone's MMR for the new season. Its a mixed bag right now but yeah mostly at first everyone will be terrible.
See, my experience of comps were either getting with a decent team and having a hard go, or being matched with noobs and getting stomped. It's generally a lot harder than pubs.
I have around 40 hours in the game and I'm having trouble hitting the fucking ball in front of me
It's smooth and easy when you're good and the opportunities present themselves.
>you'd be a pro player
You're implying anyone that can sing well is a professional singer.
I really miss it. Need to get controller.
I have 340 and suck ass.
>i was expecting a casual fun time, but instead i got a fucking quake 3
You can play unranked if you just want to play around without any kind of pressure.
When I had a few drinks I like to play labs, hoops, chaos or hockey. They're all good in their own way.
Personally RL is one of those games that no matter how much i try i can't git gud. I have 300 hours in this game and i'm still garbage. Of course i'm better than when i first started playing but i can't do none of this shit in this video. Fuck, i'm still struggling with aerials off the wall and shit.
Have almost 300 hours in the game, been solo queuing in ranked but I barely seem to go anywhere past challenger 3 as it is usually a complete gamble with how retarded my teammate is.
If anyone is down for some 2s hmu steamcommunity .com/id/panic2
When would one actually use rocket flying? I can't think of a good use of it outside of autistic esports play.
> Fuck, i'm still struggling with aerials off the wall and shit.
Hell, I've got more time than you and can't even do them off of the ground. Sure I'll hit the ball, but like a wet fucking blanket.
hoops my nigga
>ball rolls from the corner and drops by the goal
>fly higher than the goalie and score
>long shot about to drop on the goalie
>give it a tap and make it fly over him
You'll notice how useful they are when you meet someone who's good at them. You really can't do shit against it without being good at them yourself.
The problem with 3v3 in RL is that the other two players always just rush to the ball like maniacs.
I usually wait around the middle line if one of my teammates is trying to get the ball to the enemy's goal. Waiting to see if I can take the pass or have to block.
But there is always that retard that has to rush past me and fuck our formation over by not doing anything productive with that speed. And then, they are unable to get back to our goal in time.
It's amazing how shitty many people are at positional awareness.
Got 200h and am in the Challenger bracket.
>tfw you get a goal by dribbling and juking the whole team
>You're implying anyone that can sing well is a professional singer.
nice comeback, not even kidding
Same, 3v3 I'm top in Prospect and 2v2 I'm Challenger 4.
I Bounce between 3v3 and 2v2 and there is such a difference in peoples ground games.
In a game of doubles I can set up shots and dribble no problem.
In Solo Standard if I try any ground-work either none of my TM's are ready for the center or they are both heading back to goal because they didn't realize I was pushing to the opponent's pocket for the set-up.
The only way to MVP or carry on Standard ranked in to have a good to excellent air game (which I do not, which is why I'm doomed to never enter Challenger for 3v3)
Pretty much all the time. Wall shots, aerial shots, blocks, passes, redirects, saves.
post your cars
Hoops is my favorite mode but I'm fuckin shit at it. Not sure how to get better at actually getting goals since most of mine are long-shots compared to ones right near the hoop itself.
That's Why you get a squad. Simple shit like sending a friend request or Invite to teammate or even opposing players works.
RIP ankles I cry every time ;_;
I have a friend I play with quite a bit, but I usually play more often than him.
if you learn how to dunk the ball when it's in the air at the start of the match you can pubstomp like crazy
also learn to get a good angle when sliding the ball at the corners of the field to get some sweet slam dunks
2v2 hoops is my favorite mode too
Hoops is ridiculously hard unless you've basically mastered aerials.
I'm ok at this game, better than most at ground shit, but I can't seem to get the hang of aerials, at all. Anyone have any tips? I can usually hit it in aerials, but I can't get anywhere near the amount of control you'd need for it to actually be useful.
>Anyone have any tips?
Do the training sessions, they are brutal, but they train you to get some basic moves down.
>tfw you get a goal from the kickoff
Do the training sessions. They're there for a reason.
who /challenger/ here
too casual for rising star
too good for prospect
no that's fairly common above prospect
pardon the aliasing
I fucked up the formatting a little
>these rookies
BIND WHEW TO YOUR SARCASM OF CHOICE INPUT AND WEW THEM TO SHAME
>tfw the enemy team knock it in for you
Ive been Challenger for as long as I can remember. I once got the Star in 2vs2, but climbed down pretty fast again.
The skill gap between Challenger 2 and Challenger Elite is fucking insane
if you see em drivin at you just press jump ONCE.
now he's both out of position and out of boost
What car is everyone using? Paladan here
>that decal
literally the only good looking one in the game and I just never get it
>when would one actually use flying
All the time.
If you aren't chasing the ball the other team is.
Go watch a pro match. Shit is actually insane. So if you want to get better: Pretty much all the time
Start earlier so you get some time to control your car instead of just boosting straight up.
I like the stripes as well but damn is it hard to get any good decal without spending any non-double commons
I remember I had like 7 commons that were doubles and after about a week I got enough shitty rare decals I decided to trade to see what I would get. Got the frostbite rocket trail which I love (I used to use the snow-storm one)
>knock it into my own goal
>What a save!
>What a save!
>Nice shot!
>play quite a bit of Snow Day since it's pretty fun
>get even worse at Standard 3v3
Rocket League is suffering. I also dislike that, once you've passed the initial beginner ranks, matchmaking sucks and your opponents are often insanely strong.
>2v2
>Carry my teammate
>Score goals and keep us in the game
>Miss 1 save
>"What a save!"
>"What a save!"
>"What a save!"
Honestly this shit infuriates me
How's your uncle's job at Nintendo going?
>you type "Sorry! My fault."
>enemy team replies "No Problem."
Yeah I get bumped up occasionally and play against Challenger 4/5 and see what it's like. I don't think I'll ever be that good. I accept my limits.
Lately I've been playing with a friend that got me into rocket league but lost interest. He's still right at the start of prospect. Playing comp 2s with him is fun. I can see exactly how I used to be.
People missing the ball, no ability to predict bounces, no air, doing dumb stuff like chasing a ball your teammates on with no hope of getting to it before the other team, can't save shit.
It's fun to look back at others and see where I was before I decided to practice.
I cashed in literally everything to get very rares because they're all shit anyway. I'm glad I did because the cartoon smoke is my fav.
The only good decal is wings. The best trail is cartoon. Everything else is just a distraction.
sup
>they don't sarcastically spam THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS! when the game makes you too angry
this game makes me too angry too often
>tfw you tackle at your goal wall and it longshots into their goal
Octane is love, octane is life.
I like how paladin and a lot of other thin cars work for aerials but the I'm happy with octane.
100 hours in and I'm decent
Like the others said the aerial training is genuinely useful. When you can get 50% on that you're doing okay. As well, just use free play training to practice over and over and over.
It really all comes down to practice. The only thing I can think of saying is remember if the ball is rising, aim above it. If the ball is falling, aim below it.
>tfw the ball is slowly rolling into their goal and no one is close enough to touch it
Why those montages always have the worst choice of music holy shit.
thanks doc
200 and I still have aerial game
I've made it thus far mastering my ground game
...
>Only goal scored all game was by an enemy who accidentally knocked it into his own goal
I legitimately felt bad for him
>tfw the ball is slowly rolling into your goal and no one is close enough to touch it
Whew.
perfect
opposite here, I can handle low speed or high speed stuff on or near the ground and weird angles. Can't fly for the life of me, still sometimes miss stuff on the wall too.
Is that Till?
any of you all wanna play a game or what
Repetition is the word. If you play it long enough, you'll
-Literally start to see car's/ball's trajectories and make your moves based on them
-Learn to keep eye out where your teammates and enemies are and be ready for possible countering/positioning yourself in field, in the right time
-Learn to use your boost correctly and keep it at top as much as you can
-Keep your cool and play aggressive enough
I'd open a private match for you guys. Do you want east of west coast?
Yeah.
Beast coast please
