Why does everyone hate FF8?
Why does everyone hate FF8?
Other urls found in this thread:
because its gay
because its a love story before anything else
a love story with protagonists made of cardboard. the only interesting characters are the ones NOT involved with the romance aspect of the game.
and the combat system is broken.
I didn't hate 8 just my problem was the lack of likable characters and the drain magic bullshit. If it was just Laguna and his guys doing their own thing I wouldn't mind it.
because of disc 3 and 4
Because it's a shit game. Nine is better in every way.
>garbage story
>garbage characters
>garbage combat
>garbage card game that is just another form of grinding
The real question should be, why does FF8 even have fans?
>great game
>great game
>bad game
>great game
Because the gameplay and story are both completely fucking broken.
There's plenty to love about it but it's hard to look past the most retarded plot twist in gaming history and gameplay that is either piss easy or monstrously hard depending on how you play, with almost no middle ground.
I love it My favorite ff.
I didn't. It's pretty great. The only bad Final Fantasies are 2 and 10.
And 2+10.
Nah 12 is good and zodiac edition is pretty great. Unless you meant x-2 but at least that had a decent battle system.
>Unless you meant x-2
No, 2+10 =/= 10-2.
Then I guess you're just wrong bucko.
It's not an opinion, ask anyone if 2+10=10-2. That you're defending that it does shows that you are without facts.
I'll give my personal reasons
Combat is tedious and boring.
No interesting mechanics like materia or sphere grid(attach magic lol fuck off).
All characters are teenagers.
The plot is all magic and no depth or intrigue.
The main character is just a complainer edgelord.
I guess the main reason is because I just couldn't get attached to anything that was happening.
Biggs & Wedge were the best characters of the game.
>we grew all up together
>draw magic
do I need to say more?
About 12 being bad I mean. I didn't watch my friends die face down in the muck over in 'nam to do math friend.
Do you have friends to watch do anything?
Not after 'nam, thanks for bringing it up you pinko fuck.
It is my favorite Final Fantasy. I played it during a certain time in my life when the story and the characters really made an impression on me. If I were to look back now, I could objectively say it's not a great game for a lot of reasons, but because it's so closely tied with a vivid time from my past, I'll always love it. These days I only play it when I want a nostalgia hit. I can't remember the last time I beat it.
...
10-2 was a pretty fun fanservice game
I put it on the same level as chocobo games and ehrgeiz
FPBP
1) Some people hate it because they expected Final Fantasy VII-2
2) Another group hate it because of it bright, utopian design.
3) Another group hate it for its really bad love story. Though many of these same people then turn around and claim FFX is good for the same thing so I'm inclined to think they don't know what a good love story is.
4) Some people dislike it because of the Junction system/combat.
5) Some people dislike it because it was popular.
6) Some people dislike it simply because its Final Fantasy.
7) Some people dislike it because of the 'plot twists' (which is stupid since nearly all FF games have a plot twist on the same level of stupidity).
8) Some people dislike it just to jump on the meme bandwagon of hating it.
Personally, I think its one of the better FF games. But I can see why people don't like it. Rinoa is legitimately insufferable. Squall goes from a strong leader with a mind of his own on Disk 2 to suddenly obsessing over Rinoa and a ignoring all his responsibilities on Disk 3, with absolutely no build up.
In the end, I'd say even for being one of the better FF games, its still mediocre.
I'd say the romance being the primary theme before all else pulls people out of it. The first two discs are great because it's less romance, more political intrigue and magic doesn't trump all else. By the time you're in esthar, the military and politics are gone and all you're left with is Rinoa/Squall and a bunch of nobodies who are only there to fill the orphanage.
Hell once you learn ultimecia is acting through Rinoa, Edea, and Adel, she's the only character that matters and she's invisible to you until disc 3.
It came after FF7.
Seriously - that's it.
I hate it because it stole Xenogears budget and staff.
But I love it.
The fedora tipper hipster minority that thinks IX is good is hardly "everyone".
I don't. I just like some of the others better like 9, 6, 12, 5 and 7. It's still a good game despite its flaws. It actually used to be higher when I was younger but I still like it a lot.
A couple things that kept me from enjoying the game. The plot has no purpose for for over half the games. It feels like a slice of life JRPG. I know the point of X was a pilgrimage to reach Zanarkand, 7 was about reaching Sephiroth. But 8 had no purpose. That and Edea is not a memorable villain.
>Edea
>a villain
Looks like a couple of things kept you from PLAYING the game
>if you don't like what I like you're a fedora tipper hipster minority
Let's face it, people liked FF8 only because of nostalgia, it sold well because of FF7, and FF9 didn't sell well because FF8, the combat system is good enough, the problem is the magic assimilation bullshit and that the enemies level up like you do, the only way of gettint stronger with lvl ups is by filling your characters with GF bonuses
>start Disk 3
>"I wish I could hear Rinoa's voice. I'd do anything to help Rinoa. Rinoa Wake up! Rinoa was so full of life. Rinoa..."
And that's just in the first 5 minutes. Meanwhile over the previous 20 hours, Squall couldn't stand her.
You're living in a mercenary school. That was so fucking sick. You have a D Days mission with this music playing:
youtube.com
You're in wars and shit and an assassination mission. It was really fucking cool.
8 had a purpose. It was just explained later in the game. And you can make the claim that 80% of FFX is about following a girl who ultimately has no purpose in Tidus' mission. Which is to fight Jecht and stop Sin. And also Auron knew all along but didn't tell Tidus because 'lol'.
>get mercenary license
>hired by rebels for first mission where you learn about what's really going on
>next mission to assassinate the sorceress
>learn that Edea is being controlled by another sorceress
>spend the rest of the game learning about and fighting sorceresses
So they try to cram a 4 disc game out of something that had enough for ideas about 2 discs.
...
Sure, but then something like "chase Sephiroth" doesn't need anymore than half of a disc.
>Draw
i dislike it purely because of the combat/GF system. Even at 14 years old with no guides you could exploit it to hell
Your screen has dandruff
One thing that bothered me was how magic was nearly useless and the whole game was about mashing attack. Summons also got old because they take 5 years to load. So you get through every battle by looking away from the screen because you only need 1 command and you rarely need to heal.
Someday you will understand, user.
GFs
Draw system
"We all grew up in the same orphanage"
Time compression shenanigans
Enemy scaling
The love story interrupts the main story
Playable characters are boring, especially Irvine and Quistis
Game absolutely falls apart after Esthar
The story is absolutely stupendous if you view it as a comedy, though.
He fell for female meme.
oh fuck i had forgotten about the enemy scaling, that was some bullshit
remember going to some island, drawing 99 ultima, i think, and then winning the game.
I liked FFVIII when I was younger, but couldn't be it.
Your image is why I couldn't.
I chose Draw as my first option in that mansion near the end of the last disc and it fucked me from beating any boss.
My dumbass saved over my older file before I choose what option so I was stuck with Attack and Draw.
I've tried getting back into it, but it has a very boring and slow beginning.
The beginning is the best part. Exploring Balamb garden, adventuran with your squad and running away from giant robots crash bandicoot style. It gets boring when it goes to the Laguna dream shit. That shit is so boring.
I slogged through the game on my first playthrough only using attack. I got to train where you fight the ronal reagan clone, and then finally learned that I could junction stuff.
I got the game in 2002 when I was 8 and couldn't read well. It was 2007 when that happened.
i thought it was alright. i identified with the main character because i didn't talk much and i was also cynical due to child abuse, so it was like they made a video game for me.
the magic system was tedious, and the game was overly focused on the romantic side. the idea that there could be a downside to a common final fantasy element like summoning was interesting. story overly convoluted though.
Michael?
anyone still have that ancient copy pasta of some user wanting to kill himself so he can live in FF8's world?
>Even at 14 years old
nigga by then you should already be good at video games
this shit was a cake walk for 8 year old me
>GF meat shields
>assigning good spells to stats
>spamming triangle button for EZ mode limits
a 6 year old could break this game
easiest game in a super easy series
Pay to win garbage
>born in 1999
fucking kill yourself
exceptional math skills, friend
>Why does everyone hate FF8?
It's a bad game.
And this is coming from someone who actually thought Squall looked pretty good. It had a bad presentation of characters, a silly plot, ran you around for no reason... and as everyone says, the combat was moronic. And that was only the few hours I got into the game. There was apparently stupidity like conveniently fully-operational spaceships just lying around between dimensions next to where Squall and Rinoa were dropped for no reason.
I mean, if you like it then that's fine. Fuck the haters, enjoy your game. It certainly has a lot of features that aren't in any of the other Final Fantasy titles, so you won't find them elsewhere. But if you want some objective reasons why the game is considered bad, then there are several.
FF8 fans don't listen to reason. The power of nostalgia powers over all logic. I guarantee they'll post the same top a few days later because they ignore anything they don't wanna hear.
