It's a ploy to collect more geospatial data, along with photos and videos within private locations that you typically can't get through GPS alone, for surveillance and marketing purposes.

It's a gamification platform that encourages you to run/walk/bike and socialize through the concept of Catching Pokemon in real lives via AR

It's far from a finished product and they'll work on it. Trading is planned and leaderboards and special events for legendaries. If it keeps up, they'll add more generations of Pokemon slowly and potentially add battling but it isn't set in stone right now. Also, better algorithims for Pokemon spawning and potential region exclusive mons

It's pretty nice for a time waster. 10/10, would recommend to a friend. Wouldn't recommend it as a hardcore game though, since it emphasizes getting out and socializing through teams and spawns
