Gamecube and PS2 won. Both had fucking fantastic libraries, PS2 in quantity and Gamecube in quality.
>ps2 at moms house
>gamecube at dads
>xbox at friends house
Xbox was better for more people.
Ps2/Gamecube won out in singleplayer games
I like the Huegbox most. PS2 has the most games worth playing though.
for playing games with friends Gamecube and XBOX
For single player fun, PS2
PS2 > Gamecube > Dreamcast > Xbox
They were all brilliant systems.
I really don't know what I think was best, but I think the XBOX was legitimately underrated, especially since it was the only console to get some otherwise PC only shit
>The feels when thinking about renting morrowind, Jedi Academy and Kotor2
It also had some neat features like ripping music to your hard drive to listen to in game.
ps2
the most popular one with 155 million sales
PS2 had Ratchet & Clank, Jak, Tekken and San Andreas, it was the default console that everyone had
Xbox has Serious Sam, Halo and JSRF the best multiplayer console
I had almost nothing for my GameCube. I enjoyed Mario Kart Double Dash, Day of Reckoning and Spider-Man 2 alot though.
Everyone wins except dreamcast. You only had that if you were an early weeb.
PS2, far more games than the rest
And more powerful than Gamecube and Dreamcast
dc wuz ps2 iz
Quality of games: Xbox
Most games: PS2
Better build quality : Xbox
Good (but few) exclusives: Dreamcast
Better controller: Xbox/PS2 tie
Today there is not a single reason to own a ps2 because every good game was remastered
The duke was a terrible design
PS2 because it had SMT games
I'm talking about the smaller one
not my fault you had baby hands
>And more powerful than Gamecube
Is the other way around user
Stop trying to destroy the thread
I'd say Probably gamecube for its exclusives. Xbox for the rest.
PS2 was an amazing console but a large amount of its best sellers were better on the GC or Xbox. Xbox also was in that weird position of being a near enough to a low-mid range pc of the time and getting lots of half decent PC ports.
Even not considering the outselling amount that PS2 had, it is still the best videogame due to its game library. For each exclusive from GC and XBox you can have 5 for PS2.
>quality of games xbox
>best exclusives: dreamcast
>better controller not being gamecube controller
how hard is it to admit the gamecube had the best in these categories?
I think in one aspect was more powerful but I don't remember. It has nothing to do with disc size though
But usually Gamecube had better anti-aliasing and texture mapping
PS2 (just like PS3) was hard to develop for
Early dreamcast games had better graphics than PS2 graphics until 2002/2003
>Is the other way around user
Uh, no
First statement is true
Second is false
The Gamecube controller was comfortable, but the c-stick was shit, the d-pad wasn't great and it was lacking in buttons.
in terms of power, it went xbox > gamecube >> ps2 >> dreamcast. it wasnt more powerful in any way.
Out of those 4, I would truly say the playstation 2 even thought I bought a gamecube & an xbox.
>Xbox
Just like now, the Xbox was fucking worthless if you had a PC.
There are reasons for why it has never sold well outside of America.
Xbox was such a great machine. It has better graphics than 2006 wii and for that time pcs were expensive, CPUs were loud and GPUs had huge coolers
For 300 dollars Xbox was better than build a PC in 2001/2002/2003
en.wikipedia.org
To me there is only 2 gamecube exclusives worth playing: Wario World and Star Fox Adventures
The dvd player that had better and more games than dedicated gaming machines.
I still have tiny hands and it is still a terrible design
oh look its that one image that is always used in defense when there are countless articles and specs and quotes proving thea thte GC was in fact stronger than the PS2.
so the xbox then
post tits
Gamecube, hands down. PS2 is close, but GC was really the best console, it had some awesome games like F-Zero, Metroid, Smash, Zelda and so on. If I had to choose between ps2 and gc, I'd say gc with no remorse.
Dreamcast was cool but it died too fast. About xbox, there was no need for it, as always.
is this loss?
i hear a lot of talking but not a lot of posting proof
The Xbox is the western Sega Saturn: A marvelous machine full of hidden gems. And unlike the SS, you can actually play those games because they're not behind a language barrier.
It feels funny putting up the DC against the other 3,though. The Xbox was basically an upgraded Dreamcast. Everything from the controller design, the launch games, the OS, and the core design.
Fuck off back to Sup Forums
And then it became fucking worthless while good PCs of the time lasted you well into the next generation. Making it more worth the money in the long run anyway.
>For 300 dollars Xbox was better than build a PC in 2001/2002/2003
Wahahaha.
Xbox used a Pentium 3, which was out of date with the release of Pentium 4 Northwood in early 2002, and it used a GeForce 3 which was out of date with the release of GeForce 4 also in early 2002.
Xbox was on-par (not better, just on-par) with PCs for like one or two months and vastly outdated after that.
>which console is best guise
>second line is berating ps2 fans
nice one OP, good thread.
...
They were all great.
I never cared for the sly raccoon/jak/ratchet/any other furry platformer/whatever so PS2 didn't really appeal to me.
>dreamcast have arpund 10 games worth playing
>gamecube have 5
>ps2 have 30
>xbox have otogi/ninja gaiden
my brother got a playstation and i got a dreamcast/gamecube, no need for the abortion
>furry platformer
Eternal Darkness
F-Zero GX
Kirby Air Ride
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Wario World
Those are all must-play tittles imo.
>dreamcast have arpund 10 games worth playing
try 20
Pentium 4 was $644 at launch and then droped to $500 12 months later
Dreamcast had better Internal Cache, Pixel Depth, Image Processing Functions, Instructions Per Second, Real-world polygon capacity, Simultaneous textures,Texture compression, Default game resolution and Audio Capacitates, had more built in controller port and launched with online capabilities.
It was more powerful and better thought out in some ways, hell, there is discrepancy between all of the systems that way, with Xbox and Gamecube towering over the other two in raw power.
It's always amazing to look back and see how fucking fantastic the Xbox was compared to the PS2/GCN.
>this is strictly about games
Then PS2. It's weak machine, but the game library is the best in term of quality and quantity.
>Kirby Air Ride
>The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
>Double Dash
>Paper Mario
>Super Mario Sunshine
The only good in your list is Metal Gear Remake
The image is true on that case alone, GC was complete shit on physics based stuff, Floating point calculation was complete wank on it.
The Xbox was terrible in that regard aswell especially when you played Half Life 2 on it and fucked around with the gravity gun, framerate gone.
Shit taste detected. Blocked! :)
>Pentium 4 was $644 at launch and then droped to $500 12 months later
You're talking about Pentium 4 Willamette which was the expensive, unfinished version released in 2000. I'm talking about Northwood which was the 'real' Pentium 4 released in early 2002.
The performance was actually good and it wasn't nearly as expensive as you say.
dreamcast > ps2 > xbox > gamecube
Oh yea I forgot about Metroid Prime 1-2.
i have 23. i said 10 because i dont think half of them were that great
Poster was quite obviously a delusional Xbox fanboy.
so why did you even get the other 13 you dumb nigger
NintendoGAF
>it wasn't nearly as expensive as you say.
This article from 2002 extremetech.com
" The 2.0A-GHz Pentium 4—the “A” is used to distinguish the 0.13-micron “Northwood” Pentium 4 from the 0.18-micron “Willamette” Pentium 4—is priced at $364, while the 2.2-GHz version commands a price of $564. "
PS2 still wins by a landslide, because it had the largest selection of games. It basically hade every genre covered. Don't even know how this shit is still up for debate.
Way more, considering its great quantity/quality ratio of the 600+ games it saw in its lifetime/after.
PS2 of course steamrolls the competition with a library approaching 2500 games, but there was also a lot more shovelware there.
The largest.. yes but in quality Xbox had the best exclusives and multiplat
Crimson Skies, Ninja Gaiden and Halo > PS2
>Don't even know how this shit is still up for debate.
some people dont like underpowered dvd players
>Dreamcast had better Internal Cache
wrong, PS2's CPU had more of it particularly if you include the vector units which had their own cache
>Pixel Depth
wrong, dreamcast was locked to dither filtered 16 bit while PS2 had the option of 32 bit
>Instructions Per Second
wrong, SH-4 couldn't even come close to Emotion Engine
>Real-world polygon capacity
wrong, Dreamcast's GFLOPS and fill rate were vastly inferior to PS2
>Simultaneous textures
wrong, dreamcast didn't support multitexturing so that's 1 texel per cycle, while PS2 had 8 texture units for 8 texels per cycle
>Texture compression
sort of, dreamcast had hardware support for VQ compression but PS2 could do it in software
Most people enjoy good video games
agreed
>This article from 2002 extremetech.com
There was also a 1.6 ghz Pentium 4 released at that time and it retailed for $150 USD. Will kick the shit out of an old 733mhz Pentium 3
That feel when in hindsight you wish you could have had all four of them instead of just the GCN and PS2.
And you can't even emulate the Xbox.
6th gen is best gen
Dreamcast = PlayStation 2 > Gamecube = Xbox
Fuck you. You come on the Internet spouting about how you're a woman, you've gotta show tits or gtfo
>loss
I had the Xbox, PS2 and a GC.
I loved to play Halo 2 on Xbox live and I enjoyed Fable as well. I also used the Xbox as a media center the most.
PS2 had some really great essential games like ICO, SOTC, MGS1-2 and FFXII.
But, the GC for me had the games I had most fun with and overall beter exclusives. I feel that the people that prefered the PS2 were usually poor people that couldn't afford a good PC. I've always had a decent PC and for me GC was the definite choice if I had to choice.
But again all systems were great and I enjoyed them all.
they looked worth playing
Spawn , sonic shuffle , alone in the dark 4 , outtriger , those are my buyers remorse ,then i have virtua tenis tenis 1+2 which are the only esports games i enjoyed
I'm not spouting shit, I'm saying the controller was garbage because it was huge and I have small hands and proved I have small hands
The Xbox had the best versions of multiplats (aside from PC but for the price of the Xbox it could run PC ports nicely) and had a good lineup of exclusives, and also had easily the best online of any 6th gen console
What one are people still playing competitively? Oh yeah, it's Gamecube for Melee.
lol
The PS2 had a bigger and arguably stronger library, but I far more enjoyed my Gamecube.
That's just my opinion.
Why are consoles so stingy with the ram? Isn't that the least expensive thing to add? How much money are they saving exactly?
>mfw I downloaded an extra 2 gigs of ram just last week after I found an add on a porn site
Consolefags will never know this pleasure!
It needs to be blazing fast. Also there aren't as many memory overheads on a console. Or at least there weren't back when things were optimized.
>Why are consoles so stingy with the ram?
Because when you don't have a million background processes running you don't need as much RAM.
Consoles may not have had much RAM but console RAM has tended to be very fast.
PS2 had fucking 48 GB/s eDRAM in the year 2000. The best PC card of that time, GeForce 256, had VRAM rated for 4.8 GB/s. Literally ten times slower.
Hell, N64's RAM was 562.5 MB/s in 1996, at a time when PCs were equipped with under 100 MB/s RAM.
They posted a picture of their hand you fucking degenerate.
Both the PS2 and N64 ram were limited in utility by significant latencies btw
>about games
PS2.
To be fair, the Xbox was really out dayed by the time HL2 came out
I love the Dreamcast the most because its arcade roots and how it handled things. It had a focus on a specific type of gaming that has since been lost.
I hate the PS2 as a system, the way it was put together doesn't work as well for gaming as the other systems, but it has the overall strongest video game library because of sheer volume, many great times were had.
Both the GameCube and Xbox are great systems with great exclusives and great hardware, the storage media limitations of the Gamecube gimps it though and had most of its non first party exclusives ported, and only the Xbox hasn't been emulated so far so it remains the only system of the four that is essential to own if you want to experience it.
That said, nostalgia, yearning for the arcades and that 90s video game sensibility and experimentation will always make the Dreamcast come out on top for me.
Jade Empire and Oddworld aren't Xbox exclusive also Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Replace those 3 with Ninja Gaiden Black, Metal Wolf Chaos and Jet Set Radio Future.
>Both the PS2 and N64 ram were limited in utility by significant latencies btw
PS2's eDRAM doesn't suffer from significant latencies. It's just DRAM that just happens to be on an insane 2560-bit memory bus.
N64's RAM had significant random access latencies, it's RDRAM after all that's kind of its characteristic, but just cause there are random access latencies doesn't nullify the existence of that bandwidth. It just means that optimization becomes important if that bandwidth is going to reach its potential.
>also Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Fuck you. Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Xbox is the literal definition of a hidden gem.
>also Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
talking shit about buffy nigger?
It's my understanding that the PS2 had super fast VRAM on the GS but it was tiny (4MB?) and that the best-performing games essentially used it as a texture cache for accessing stuff in the high latency 32MB main RAM.
Which should I play next on my PS2?
>Nanobreaker
>Dead to Rights
>God Hand
easily god hand, nanobreaker is terrible and dead to rights is shit on ps2
