I've met tons of people playing. At my local college (I'm not even a student) I was going around getting Pokemon with my team of 3 when a random noticed us and was on Team Instinct as well. We all ended up working together to take on one of the local gyms. It was pretty cool. After we beat it we all went our separate ways though. Blue team kept beating us and we kept leaving Pokemon until we decided to leave it be.
Also when I put a lure at a small pier the other night I got 3 cars and a pickup in the once barren area within 3 minutes.
Had a little convo with some kid at the beach that same night. Just talking about teams poliwags and magikarps.
It's actually a damn good way to get people together. We're all out there following a common interest we can socialize with each other through.
I personally have to call Go a social success.

I saw this guy literally leap off of a bridge at 6:30 in the morning and dart off into the woods. He either did it because he saw me coming or because he really, really wanted a Nidorino that was in that direction. I saw him later at a pokestop and took photos of him.
