Are you also seeing signs of this game everywhere?
Is this what the 90s were like?
Are you also seeing signs of this game everywhere?
Is this what the 90s were like?
>go into a convenience store
>see a handwritten sign saying anyone that shows some cool pokemon caught at their place gets a 10% discount
>cashier is showing some kids how to play and letting them know about some landmarks around town that tend to have certain pokemon at them
I got laid with a teen and I was a KV so that was great.
Despite the actual game being stupidly bare-bones that is pretty dank
why would this be how the 90s were? there was nothing close to this in the 90s.
unless you mean, pokemon being popular in which case, it still wasnt like this, pokemon was a show/card game. now its invaded our lives.
and i couldnt be happier
Pokemon was plastered over everything and you found merchandise everywhere.
Unless this thing keeps being ridiculous for a month longer with no sign of slowing down Pokemania isn't actually back. Just a kickass flavor of the month.
>have jury duty
>finish orientation
>bailiff: just so you know, this court is a Pokestop
What the fuck
Pokemon is ushering in an age of physical activity, socialization and peace
This poke meme is going to be a part of daily life now
>pokemon was a show/card game
The game came first.
>tfw social anxiety keeps me from playing this game
Pokemon is going to become a new religion
All hail air lapras
How much longer will this game be this popular?
I give it another week.
>tfw my GPS is fucked
>it's fetish week here in the britbong capital
>go to a rope bondage masterclass because why the fuck not
>the demonstrator makes a Pokemon go reference
Not even joking
Once trading is implemented along with Gen 2 pokemon, theere is zero chance of it ever going away
It'll drop off slowly over the next weeks/months, but still be popular. If Niantic plays their cards right with big events for the Legendary Birds/Mewtwo/Mew, they could even bring more people in.
The big drop off will occur whenever Gen 2 Pokemon are released.
No. Back then Pokemon was about the show and card game. No one actually gave a fuck about the video game. Malls would have dedicated Poke card tournaments. Not so much for the game.
How long do you think the average normie is gonna reach 20?
Normies will still love it for weeks on end, but beets will move on by next week
>Is this what the 90s were like?
I no doubtfully believe that half of Sup Forums tards were born in the early 2000s
>No one actually gave a fuck about the video game
Thanks for proving you were born after the year 2000, kiddo. Literally EVERYONE at school was playing the vidya.
This. I never saw anyone playing the game out in public, but I always saw people playing the card game.
>mfw the local cemetery is a pokestop, and has an art installation in it that is also a pokestop
>place lure at each pokestop
>watch people wandering around a place of solemn mourning while laughing and catching virtual monsters
I wish there was a funeral this weekend.
Just wait untill everyone is sleeping.
You can be the night king.
it is like the 90's all over again.
I have still have a pokemon red cartridge from high school and a link cable
I was the coolest mother fucker around.
I don't get it. I really don't fucking get it.
Am I missing something? Because I booted it up, faffed around for a few minutes, saw the core concepts and thought the game was complete trash.
Just go at night senpai it's what im planning on doing assuming the weather holds
I'm going to kill myself and in my will I'll make sure my gravestone is a pokestop.
>live in new york
>no stops or anything show up on my map
Well fuck
I was born in 91.
which ass backwards town did you live in?
I can't speak for the whole town, but my block was full of kids trading back in '96
Why would you need a physical sign on your store saying this?
Is the "game" so barebones it doesn't even tell you basic things like that?
You clearly aren't old enough to remember the 90s.
>You will never be a kid exploring the town for Pokemon with your friends
Williamsburg Brooklyn. People did bring their gameboys to school or I would occasional see gameboys at stores, but I never saw them playing Pokemon. They were playing mario or tetris.
>use a lure module
>only ratattas and zubats appear at the pokestop
i fucking hate this game
How long before stupid kids die from Burger King Pokémon toys again Sup Forums?
I know ex-cons who are crazy into Go. I mean, they're coordinating trips with friends for god's sake. It's really bizarre.
Even my sister is huge into it and she hasn't touched a video game in years.
I saw the security chief at my office wandering around chasing a Dratini the other day, the dude's like 50.
I'm surprised nobody has jumped fences and rushed toward the White House to see if it's a Pokestop or a Gym.
I remember my elementary school trying to get ahead of the hype (in reality they were way behind) and started encouraging "Pokemans".
When students complained that they just weren't getting it, the school banned all forms of Pokemon, games, cards, toys, etc...
Oh god I remember those
...
Oh. I just got the appeal.
...fuck.
>doubting the power of gen 3
I will tell you the 1990s
Instead of pokestop in this picture usually it was a local store and it was like Pokemon cards come inside.
Instead of Kanye West And drake
It was
Alternative
Grunge
Rock
Pop alternative
Nu metal
Industrial metal and industrial
Death metal
All metal subgenre
Horrorcore
Pop punk
Hardcore punk
70s punk
Gangsta rap
Ska
There is a few more but everyone was so different and it was a dark era but at the same time it brought light on people being abused so we would get together and celebrate life being shit.
Instead of memes it was how far can you push in the public sense something and swears
Band shirts and long hair and super baggy clothing everywhere
The adult parents were Christian and restrictive so there was a lot of suffering and abuse and alot of the times fucked up families would make a person. Before this era the music all sounded the same it sounded like the b52s love shack and it creeped me the fuck out and it made me cringe.
Had a CD player and my Christian family would not let me get cds so I would save up what they give me go to the store and buy it. Or I would just have someone burn me cds. If family found out I would get punished and they would hit me. Literally could only have burned cds but without names.
A kid at school says shit to me told me I'm not a true fan because of it. I told him I'm not allowed to have this, he did not believe me and we fought against each other.
Fist fights over stupid shit like mushroom head vs slipknot
Pearl jam nirvana etc
Had to sneak downstairs and switch between 99-100 on a crt tv screen was crackly because I wanted to watch wwf attitude era ppvs it would be on for like 30 seconds with static then grey static the tv might of been a 10 or a 12 inch
I played a nes and a snes on it.
Think that tv still works
You didn't have the internet so
The main things that people liked was music games and wrestling and more mature movies.
All of those were bigger in nature because wi
I see it more as a celebration of life in the face of death, user. If I had somebody die I think it would be nice to see people enjoying themselves. But then again, most Americans are selfish and want people to feel what thwy feel, so somebody is probably gonna get pissed.
>"game" requires you to leave your house
>"game" requires you to go to specific places in town, so if you live 20 minutes outside of such a place good luck
>"game" has no actual gameplay and is summed up by throwing pokeballs at pokemon and that's it
>"game" is played by every normie on the planet at the moment
>"game" requires you to pay real money for basic shit like pokeballs or you have to travel to town to spin some shit and hope you can get pokeballs
Please explain why any self respecting person would play this shit?
i wish i had a phone
the 90s were way better because it was an actual game, real competitions, real tournaments, real collectible items and rare cards and rare stuff, etc.
this is a gimmick that normies are latching onto because they think its epic geeky
>everyone pronouncing Pokémon wrong
This. Oldfags trying to rewrite history is getting fucking annoying. Pokemon at the height of its popularity was always synonymous with the Show and card game. Most people didn't even know a game existed and if they did, they thought the game released after the show and card game.
It's social.
It's a gym. So is the Pentagon. There's a fucking Snorlax.
Going outside is already part of my daily routine so why not enjoy collecting some Pokemon while I'm at it?
>Sup Forums tards
So you're one of them?
>tfw you have social anxiety and don't want to play the "game" because it sucks
Eat shit normies
You're right
Now it's more of a hobby in itself than a game.
Pokemon has become its own activity like fishing and model building
It's not like both aren't truth, obviously the merchandise behind Pokémon was the biggest fuel behind the mania but the Gameboy was literally a Pokémon machine.
It's even better because now I'm an adult and I can wander around drunk and high catching pokemon with my friends.
The show was shit.
The game came first and was one of the best gba games.
Do they have any plans on adding the other 600 pokemon?
In my mind they can really keep this shit going
>legendaries are now only found in secret locations, businesses can pay to give hints on the location
>slowly adding more pokemon to collect means the game dies much slower
>more niches that can be filled, is Watchdog is found near road construction
They also need to push for the original Red Blue and Yellow to see a mobile phone release.
>putting up a sign to tell people where a pokestop is
if they're anywhere near that sign, they've already flicked your Stop
>taking over the pentagon with your high cp pokemon named Osama
Pokemon Go saves you money!
>the show is shit
What the fuck did you say?
I give it until winter
They fucking better add at least the 2nd Gen. I want my Azumarill and Crobat.
>They also need to push for the original Red Blue and Yellow to see a mobile phone release.
>bonuses for playing in a specified location to attract players together to trade and battle
Or just direct ports would be nice. I honestly never get tired of replaying the original Pokemon games. I do it at least once every 5 years or so
>went to workplace today
>boss asks me how to use Pokéstops
>our office is a gym too
>some kids outside playing as well
>ask what team they're on
>valor
>mfw
That's cute as fuck
the show was fine. it matched the original comics exactly, so thats why everyone liked it. but then later it became gay and all about feelings and friendship, as nintendo usually does to everything like how new pokemon games have "beauty pageants" and other fag shit.
nintendo just doesnt know how to evolve their flukes into better products. they always make them worse and gayer over time.
>Nintendo removes that stop to dissuade others from suicide.
NIGHTMAN!
>tfw you don't have social anxiety and don't want to play the "game" because it sucks
haha, faggot. I can talk to people and not spurg out
Just drive to a popular lure spot, sit somewhere with headphones in, and catch 'mon till the sun comes up
huh?
>want to go catch ghost pokemon at night
>also don't want to be raped by niggers
the card game and TV show were the winners because "barrier to entry" was so low
Don't need to beg your mom and wait till Christmas for a Gameboy Pocket. The cards are right there by the register in Kmart.
That's why the game never was a big pop culture bang again until now, phone games are so easy to get into
Yeah but we have cars though.
At least as an adult you can drive, but yeah, I imagine being a kid right now and play this thing with your buddies must be pretty fun.
Rural fag detected
So play during the day and wear sunglasses to make it 'dark' for the exact same pokemon.
>be 9
>1999
>live in NYC
>Most stores even the mom and pop grocery stores advertised pokemon trading cards sold inside and thats why I did want to go to most stores with my parents durring that time, even the 99 cent stores at the time sold them individually.
>2016
>26
>Pokemon GO has been out for a week and it's spreading.
>Party like its 1999
>go into town to do my rounds of gym claiming from all the valorfags
>see a kid hunched over his phone
>ask him what team he's on
>"mystic, sir"
>wrong answer
>slap his phone out of his hand, it breaks on impact with the ground
>"when you get a new one, make sure to pick instinct, kid"
>put on my sunglasses and claim another 2 gyms in the vicinity in a single motion
>even my 60 year old boss is playing this shit game
It's just fucking Farmville at this point
I told you people wanted a Snap sequel, this is clearly the result.
Legendary
That sounds like a neat ploy for business.
Bet they'd tell me to fuck off if I pulled out my 3DS though.
If it's interact with reality, free, on the phone, AND had already some sort of popularity, of course people will grab that shit like hotcakes
This.
And to make it worse, there is nostolgia fueling Pokemon GO. Basically, we are living in the second Pokemon Wave. Any vets who was a kid in 1999?
>Gen3 comes out
>all of the new pokemon can only be caught in the pacific ocean
fucking kek
do not sexualize
its not nostalgia, its normy "im an epic geek" bullshit.
spoken like a johtoddler that grew up in the poor part of town
>"I'm an edgy 20-something now, so I can't enjoy things that normal people enjoy, it's all automatically shit"
Of course they would since you can't fucking read.
>Bondage in Britbong
Shit man why can't wymn let themselves be dominanted around tbe world
Also pokemon is fun
i like the game but i don't like it enough to constantly be going out and playing it. trouble is, my friends are all obsessed with it and now it's all they want to do. once or twice a week is enough for me where they go out every day to play so now i'm like 10 levels behind all of them. i like the game but i want the fad to end so i can go back to my life without feeling like a loser for not liking it more. i'm not a shut-in or anything, i just have other things to do with my time. in a way, i actually feel more isolated/excluded because this game than i did before it came out. does that make sense?
Imagine owning a cafe or diner and having the incredible luck of being a pokestop.
Imagine the kind of business you'd get for free, kids would come in and have food and coffee just to use your stop.
You could even lure your own stop just to generate additional sales.
