>Absolute nonsensical and garbage twists So just like 999?
Isaac Nelson
No Akane = Zero was a great twist
There weren't so many nonsensical garbage like SHIFTing, MINDHACK, ALIEN TRANSPORTER.
Evan Harris
the only twists present in 999 were within the realm of belief
VLR involved almost an entire hour of the characters trying to get you to buy all the shit like "oh we're actually on the moon, you're actually a 45 year older version of yourself, you're 45 years in the future. Radical-6, DIO is a clone. etc. etc. etc.
ZTD had alien transporters and complex motives
Noah Diaz
I think that the problem with VLR aside from shitty visuals is that it made the scale of Zero Escape bigger than it had any right to be. 999 is self-contained, has one focus on mystery and ends without cliffhanger bait. VLR has great moments but no focus and too many ideas. If VLR was self-contained and only had references too 999 it would've been fine. VLR's end should've been the prologue to ZTD.
Tyler Powell
>being mind connected to a person in the past the entire game in order to prevent said person who is also very much alive in your time from being burned alive in a secret mind experiment to try to get a man that can't see faces to see faces is completely believable
Parker Fisher
you're not wrong
Levi Murphy
>shitty visuals
Just because you played it on 3DS doesn't mean the visuals are bad. It's certainly not any worse than 999
James Price
Dude guess who was there in front of you all along lmao
Caleb Morgan
COMPLEX MOTIVES
Joseph Watson
So it sounds like you're miffed about the writing, but what do you think about the gameplay?
Camden Anderson
The puzzles had improved But fuck that Alien Transporter puzzle
Also puzzles are like 20% of each game.
Logan Edwards
So if I only ever played 999 should I even bother with the sequels? I got books I could read instead.
Henry Jones
just recently beat the trilogy, and 999 was an amazing game, but had some inconsistencies.
>why did seven, snake, and Aoi remember seeing Akane burn, if she never died?
Junpei literally asks that question right before the run into Alice.
VLR was a way better game. IMO
ZTD was the weakest of the three
William Nguyen
I know, and it makes me sad. I'm not very good at them, but I do enjoy puzzles, and 999 had some decent ones.
Lucas Gutierrez
ZTD had some good escape rooms but several of them suffered from reused puzzle archetypes. The one where you have to rotate and jam pieces into the box was reused at least 3 times. I think VLR had the greatest escape rooms since they made you go the extra step if you wanted the developer commentary safe. I can't say much about 999 since my memory of those puzzles were hazy, but I recall them being the easiest of the series.
Christopher Bailey
Why do you fucking make so many threads hating on the other 2 games? This is how I know how to spot a simple minded Nintendo fanboy. I played both 999 and VLR back to back, and VLR was much better all around, gameplay included. ZE3 just went full dark, the only flaw I find is the animations are a bit weird, otherwise the game is fantastic.
William Perry
>why did seven, snake, and Aoi remember seeing Akane burn, if she never died? The mophogenetic field?
David Watson
>Not so many >ALICE was pointless and drawn out >Morphogenic field bullshit
WAHHH WHY ARE THEY SHIFTING?!
Tyler Roberts
No thats BS. Seven should have never seen Akane Burn, since she literally fucking got saved. Only Snake and Aoi have access to the field, and even then...
Samuel Ramirez
999 had awful puzzles.
Austin Harris
How the fuck VLR is the better game? Artstyle is fucking horrible It manages to look worse than a DS game Puzzles are better but no fucking way story is improved in VLR 999 had a creepy atmosphere
Hunter Ward
I just realized their hands are cropped from the DEAD cutscenes that trigger every time they have to activate the thing. Kind of lazy.
Xavier Morgan
With ZTD we see that a large gathering of espers could awaken some power for non-espers. It's totally plausible. The only other explanation is that akane let them in on her keikakku.
Brayden Nelson
Seven lying is such a hack
Aiden Lee
VLR was good, what killed ZTD was COMPLEX MOTIVES
Luke Rivera
>implying VLR isn't the best ZE game Kill yourself dude, 999 was honestly nothing special. The fact that you can play the other two games without touching 999 should prove it.
Liam Hill
I'm getting into ZE and I ordered 999 through the mail. Did I make a mistake?
Christopher Gutierrez
Friendly reminder for every dumbass comparing 999 to the other 2 in this thread
999 was originally created as standalone. because of its reception he then later decided to create a trilogy, that's why VLR has so many cliffhangers.
Ended up selling like shit, It's a miracle ZTD even was made, and they ended up blowing msot of the money on the voice acting and cutscenes.
Luke Phillips
999 being standalone has nothing to do with how good or bad it is. Why is Sup Forums so devastatingly retarded.
Gavin Ortiz
Books? What?
Alexander Fisher
>oh we're actually on the moon, you're actually a 45 year older version of yourself, you're 45 years in the future. Radical-6, DIO is a clone. etc. etc. etc.
They were all explained and had perfect explanations
William Ward
You know? Books? Those things that are mostly words? You're in a thread for something very similar after all.
Wyatt Lewis
What? No.
Caleb Campbell
>Artstyle is fucking horrible hmmm sweet high QUALITY sprites with seamless animations
Ryan Foster
Man I really miss the sprites. I could never get used to the ugly 3D models
Brayden Wilson
even when I played 999 for the first time I was jarred at the shitty sprites.
Don't know what people like about them. They're poorly made and have choppy, shitty animations.
Levi King
I had a lot more fun with the puzzles in ZTD, the ones in 999 were fucking terrible.
Justin Ramirez
What are some other games that mix a nice story with puzzles?
Professor Layton, maybe?
Eli Perez
Reading a book while playing tetris. Nothing is more hardcore.
Nolan Johnson
I liked them.
Bentley Adams
The fast speed I read at coupled with how dumb I am with puzzles can only lead to my suffering.
Logan Ward
Yeah, I have the impression that 999 fans don't play many VN or japanese games so they are easily impressed.
Also the reason why it attracs so many people that hate "japanese aesthetics" of other games
Robert Nelson
git gud
Ian Moore
I loved 999, but didn't much care for VLR. Felt like the writing took a huge dip in quality.
Gabriel Butler
ZTD has complex motives.
Not surprised you dumbfucks can't understand it
Jack Mitchell
>like ztd, thought the ending was a little silly but not much more than the others
>go to Sup Forums >SERIES RUINED BY COMPLEX MOTIVES AND MINDHACC 0/10 ENTIRE SERIES RETROACTIVELY RUINED FOREVER
why do I keep coming back to this shithole
Luke Walker
its pretty good 3d models for a VN.
Look at Dual Destinies to see the shit you'd usually get
Joseph Lee
Dropping by and then immediately running away to avoid spoilers.
ZTD is pretty much exactly what I expected. Being forced to see so many bad ends to unlock more fragments really kills any meaning behind the deaths, especially when you just select another and they're fine.
3 endings obtained so far, about to get the rest I guess. Just 2 fragments left in D team.
I really hope the ending isn't as botched as i've been hearing.
Leo King
user you gigantic dolt
Seven and Santa were in cahoots with Akane. They were lying to you, he was pretending to have a headache to confuse you!
Wyatt Smith
>Trying to play ZTD
>Keep getting stuck on puzzles >Keep shifting around trying to find puzzles I can figure out on my own >Want to progress the story but don't want to fucking ruin the game.
Jeremiah Lewis
It gets good when they start the SHIFTing shenanigans, but yea the deaths themselves don't carry any weight.
Blake Cruz
So in 999 they could access the morphogenetic feild to transmit and receive information; and in VLR they can just SHIFT or JUMP or whatever by transferring their consciousness into another timeline and switching them. Is there ever any actual proof these two are different things? Wouldn't it make more sense if everyone thought shifting killed the them in the other timeline, but what if they just transmit all their memories into another timeline and that version of themselves thinks they shifted - when they are just the same person with the memories of another timeline?
Samuel Jackson
transmitting and receiving information is what shifting is, except you're doing it to yourself and you're sending your entire consciousness.
I'm pretty sure Uchi was going to explain in ZTD that shifting is basically the same shit as the alien transporters.
Joshua Powell
Do any of you guys have Complex Motives in life?
Matthew Roberts
I disagree. I thought the twists in VLR were fun. While I enjoyed ZTD, it missed a lot of things and some things were just stupid.
But what is now written can't be unwritten.
Daniel Rivera
Blame the people who begged for a sequel
Jace Russell
They lied.
Caleb Diaz
The 999 novels. Duh.
Brandon Perez
There 999 books?
Juan Scott
I think that's the point and I love it that way. It gives the impression of you travelling through all these timelines, seeing all these deaths, trying to find the one timeline where they don't happen. You just get weary of it
I will now proceed to explain the rules of our next Decision Geimu You have 20 seconds to come up with a better and less cringe-inducing name for MIND HACKS
Or at least something like "Unconscious Influence" or something not as jarring. Really, it didn't even need a name if they were just going to resort to calling it Mind Hacking.
Carson Hill
The power to [Game] people
Ayden Taylor
Yeah you not noticing you are older and weaker due to gravity because of magical time-slowing virus, and also not noticing your voice changed are all perfectly valid explanations.
Thomas Morris
I loved the whole series, but 999 is definitely the best and they should have stuck with the artstyle. 3D was a mistake, but I'm not against the sequels and I think all three games are terrific games
Easton Long
It's not that hard, it's just I manage to miss really obvious shit
I'm in the robot room right now and can't figure out what to do after turning the power on
Isaiah Wilson
VLR is my favorite game
Joshua Parker
How is morphogenetic field within the realm of belief? I understand the other two are a bit more "out there" but you had to realize shit was whack by the end of 999
Easton Hill
but they are so much easier then the previous two dont tell me you started with the third game?
Samuel Garcia
When a world is built with certain rules, it doesn't really matter how outlandish those rules are as long as they are followed.
In 999 the concept of the morphogenetic field was actually built up throughout the whole game via puzzles and dialogue. By the time you actually get to the end and realise that you are using the field to remember information from other timelines it's a huge revelation.
By contrast, MIND HACK is introduced in the last act of the game with no real foreshadowing other than 'it felt like I wasn't making that decision!' which 99% of fans attributed to Blick Winkel anyhow.
Also the idea of 'EVERYONE CAN SHIFT WHEN ENOUGH SHIFTERS GET TOGETHER!' wasn't introduced or foreshadowed enough either. It was just hastily thrown in to have an ending.
Isaiah Ortiz
>999 should have been left alone So finally someone agrees. 999 was great. VLR and ZTD were both so, so stupid. And this is coming from an Ever17 fan.
VLR at least had some fun puzzles, with additional gameplay. And I will say that the skipping around system was done better than 999's standard VN-style "skip through everything you've already read before."
But ZTD? It looked like shit, it ran like shit. The twists were shit. The puzzles were shit. It was shit.
Brandon Foster
someone post you are like a little baby
watch this: MINDHACCCC
Liam Perry
>EVERYONE CAN SHIFT WHEN ENOUGH SHIFTERS GET TOGETHER!' wasn't introduced or foreshadowed enough either. Worked for junpei, sigma, and phi.
Eli Reed
I couldn't stop laughing when Delta said he can Mindhack I was legit in tears
What the fuck were they thinking?
John Williams
...
Nicholas Cook
I like the name. It's ridiculous, like the rest of the series. The whole thing is just a shortbus ride to crazyville and MIND HACKS is just part of the ride
Carson Garcia
Guys, fuck. I just bought VLR, did I make a mistake?
Cooper Cox
No, VLR is good.
Daniel Price
>999 has problems like repeating puzzles and characters randomly going into deep exposition when they're in a timed scenario involving their potential death. ending is a bit goofy, the hardest part being a sudoku puzzle.
999 still had great characters, great character designs, good level design that made you feel like you knew where you were. great atmosphere.
>VLR had shit character designs, inconsistent characters due to the branching pathways involving ally or betray. going 3d was a terrible decisions. generally shitty and unsatisfying puzzles as well.
VLR still had great character endings and twists and the branching pathways were utilized in a good way, but the ending and how convoluted it gets makes it retarded. I really have no interest in trying to play more ZTD because of how convoluted it has gotten.
Parker Hill
They messed up when they went from morphogenetic field stuff (which was presented in an awesome way) and now it's just magical abilities.
It would have been nice if they just said "inside the field we can see our other selves, what we could have been, and are able to posses those possibilites" instead of SHIFTing and "manupulating those possibilities in this reality" instead of MIND HACKing or something of that sort
Or maybe just not do SHIFTing and MIND HACKing at all
Chase Barnes
>when the final mastermind of your series is now just meme material
Landon Williams
I liked VLR more than I liked 999. I thought the nonary game was handled better than the first.
Evan Baker
His memes are top notch tho
Christopher Bennett
VLR is the best in the series and has best girl, don't worry
Sebastian Cook
Skull Face was cool tho
Jose Anderson
ZTD really hasn't gotten any crazier. The only thing that gets a little long winded is Phi's origin.
Camden Flores
don't post the official artwork user, you might trick new players that VLR is actually going to look good instead of being 3d and shitty.
Nicholas Mitchell
Thankfully her model still looks good, at least compared to the others which isn't saying much.
