No matter how many times I come back to it, there's always something new to do or something new to discover. This game is absolutely perfect, why is TTYD always hailed as far superior?

No idea. This is my single favorite game of all time.

Paper Mario is literally the only good N64 game.

Paper Mario 1 and 2 >SMRPG

Muh FF reskin.

your a faggot.

I suppose Chrono Trigger is just a FF reskin too huh?

I miss the days when PM64 and TTYD fans got along on Sup Forums. PM64 is pretty good though. Doesn't reach the heights of TTYD, but it doesn't reach its lows either. It's perfectly well rounded, and a blast to play. Fun game, fun areas (for the most part), excellent characters and writing.

I like a lot of things about TTYD, but damn I really love the train level. I don't know why, I just like parts of games where you're on a train. A normal train ride while people are just chilling, not something like RE0 where everyone's dead, then it's just another level.

No It is actually good and stands above the rest.

I just replayed this for the first time in many many years a few months back.

It blew my mind when I realized that goombario has a unique line for every map and every single npc. How did they do it, how did they put so much stuff in this game?

i'm playing TTYD rn and holy fuck the Pit was boring in general
also Goombella is fucking great

Sup Forums loves TTYD because they're young, and the writing in TTYD is wittier.

Because most Paper Mario "fans" started playing the series with TTYD.

>It blew my mind when I realized that goombario has a unique line for every map and every single npc. How did they do it, how did they put so much stuff in this game?

You'd be impressed with Dragon Quest V's party chat then. It feels like your human comrades have something to say about everything.

and shes fucking thic

>Doesn't reach the heights of TTYD

>Crystal Palace chapter
>final chapter

:^)

I think your thinking of Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario fans, now those don't get along. Paper Mario fans are pretty much split into 2; the ones who like the originals and the ones who like the new ones, Sup Forums usually stands on the former side and dislikes he latter side

What areas in 64 did you take issue with? I can't name any levels I disliked in 64, but I certainly can in TTYD.

>go home for the holidays last year
>boot up my old modded wii and see what games I have because I didn't bring my pc
>haven't played paper mario in years, decide to play it
>beat it in one 12 hour session

>play ttyd on dolphin
>get bored and drop it by chapter 5

I don't know, it's too repetitive and has way too much backtracking. It doesn't have the same charm as the first one either. I didn't even like it as a kid.

The final chapter was the worst. There was nothing memorable about it besides the final boss, which was a sore shot either way. Would've been great had we gotten a Koopa Bros. rematch, but no just another Jr. Troopa fight

>Boo chapter
>Dry Dry Desert chapter

> better graphics
> diverse villains
> qt trap
Gee user, I dunno why ttyd is better

I never understand the people who complain about backtracking in TTYD. Let's check the chapters in 64 that had back tracking, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Compare that to TTYD's what, 3 chapters? What was so different about 64 that made backtracking okay?

Talk shit get hit, faggot.

Navigating via the hub section was easier in 64 imo. Could be the nostalgia talking, though.

Over worlds aren't straight lines so it's not as bad. Look at chapter 4 and 5 of TTYD for example. Literally a straight line from the start point to the dungeon and you have to go back and forth 4-5 times before you can enter the dungeon. Fucking WHY?

Well I've seen PM64 fans and TTYD fans shitflinging lately on Sup Forums. Maybe it finally stopped.

Not much. Not the biggest fan of playing hide and seek with the Yoshi children, but it's a really minor complaint.

It's my favourite too, but Flower Fields is shite.

TTYD is almost just as good but the problem with it is that it's not as good as the first game for replayability. Lots of chapters are heavily reliant on first time experience, when you play it second time they start to become more of a chore. Like on your first playthrough, you love Chapter 4 because Doopliss and the body stealing. But on your second playthrough you're not influenced by the excitement as much and instead you just notice how much you backtrack in that chapter.

It's actually 7 times with Chapter 5 if you didn't grab the coconut beforehand.

The backtracking seemed pretty minimal in PM64 to me. It's more numerous and takes longer in TTYD. You have to go back and forth across Twilit Trail in chapter 4 like, 4 or so fucking times. And then there's the General White thing. And the sidequests are pretty awful too.

>Go everywhere and look at tables and chairs!
>Go buy me a hotdog from Glitzville!
>Now another!
>Now go somewhere else for me!

The backtracking never felt forced in 64. Everything you were doing felt right
>go to one room, get a key
>go back the way you came, unlock the door. TTYD's backtracking was more like
>go to one room, get a key
>go back the way you came, haha wrong key
>go back to the room, fight enemy for new key
>go back the way you came, unlock the door

Also, you can say 9 times if you count the part where, right after you beat the chapter, you have to go to the island and into the jungle again to find the mafia couple.

>tfw replaying chapter 7
I wish the penguin murder mystery was more than just a quick opening for the chapter

At least the plants were cute.

Jesus fuck, is this true? I've never dared replaying the game because of chapter 2, but holy shit

Yeah that could have been great.

>Doesn't reach the heights of TTYD
That's because it exceeds the highs of TTYD.

Nothing in TTYD approaches the quality of any chapter in PM64.

see

Parakarry bros, WW@?

Spike is pretty cool

In my pocket collecting lint. Lakilester is better desu.

Yep.

>1) go into the jungle, shit ensues, then you find a withering Bobbery who asks for a Chuckola Cola as his dying wish
>2) go back to the camp to ask Flavio for the Chuckola Cola
>3) go back into the jungle to find a replacement for the drink (a coconut)
>4) go back to the camp to give it to Flavio for the cola
>5) go back into the jungle to give the cola to Bobbery
>6) go back to the camp to pick up Flavio so he can open the door to the dungeon with his gem
>7) go back into the jungle and finally enter the dungeon
>8) right after you beat the chapter, the mafia Pianta asks you to find his daughter who has eloped with one of his henchmen, so you have to go back to the island and into the jungle again to find them
>9) go back to the camp and leave the island so you can get a train ticket from the mafia boss, which will let you start Chapter 6

Honestly, we'll never get a game like either of those. I don't get why we need to divide ourselves further

Thats just plain false

A POSTMAN'S JOB IS NEVER DONE

His name's Lakilester, user

Blame the drooling retards who keep saying that TTYD is better "in every way" than PM64.

The crows are my favorite part of TTYD.

>Parakarry having a light blue shell everywhere except In-game.
Fuck that gay shit, the green shell was much better

This always happens when a series dies. There's nothing to talk about so fans just discuss the old games and eventually that leads into arguments and comparisons between the old games themselves and divides people further.

Already happened with Mega Man threads.

Nintendo said a TTYD HD remaster is still on the table. close enough, right?

I prefer TTYD's world.

>a remaster of a game that still looks good today

I'd say PM64 is more deserving of one.

PM64 still looks good too, that's the virtue of sprites.

Let's be real though TTYD is slightly more popular so it's more likely to get a remaster.

>amiibo compatibility
>shitty white outline graphics
>CARDBOARD BACKGROUNDS
Please god no

>TTYD is slightly more popular
>slightly

I prefer PM64, but TTYD is much, much popular. When people think of Paper Mario, they think of that game and nothing else.

*more popular

How did you guys found ou about the slow go badge?

I accidently fell into the spout, believe it or not, in my first playthorugh.

>not liking all three equally

Maximum pleb. They're one of the few series of RPGs that doesn't bore me to death with a stupid story. Pic unrelated, as it's got a dumbass story too.

64 is much more replayable than TTYD

>close enough, right?
Not even. Make a new game, stop rereleasing the same games with prettier graphics and casualization. Sticker Star was almost another proper installment. Even if it was just TTYD with different characters, locales and some slight tweaks to the game's engine, that would have been fine.

I remember finding hidden blocks and being amazed by it.

the backtracking in 64 is low on most chapters (except the toy box)
TTYD got some serious backtrack specially on chapter 5
not counting side quests

>the backtracking in 64 is low on most chapters (except the toy box)
Don't forget Flower Fields.

That's not 9 times going "back and forth." That's 9 times going from one end to another.

You only go "back and forth" 4.5 times, according to you. With 8 and 9, you go through a hole at the very beginning of the island to leave/ go back, so those don't even count.

In other words, you're exaggerating to make your point.

I like Paper Mario more than TTYD. But after 2 playthroughs, I saw pretty much everything. It's not like its Dragon Quest VII huge or something.

flower fields is shit SHIIIT
