I think Nintendos games this gen have all been pretty damn good. There just isn't much there.
Mario had a bunch of great games, Breath of the Wild looks awesome and the HD versions of WW and TP were great, along with the 3DS versions of Ocarina and MM,.
So i'd say it's a tie between Star Fox and Metroid.
i would literally do anything for a nsmb metroid or metroid maker or metroid in the style of 3d land/link between worlds or metroid prime 4

All the pikmin games are good, but there's always banter between pikmin 1 and 2 fans.
3 is generally agreed to be pretty good but not the best. I guess it won't kill you to start with 3.
Be aware that the best control scheme is using wiimote+nunchuk while keeping the gamepad as a map+shortcut.

Retro's Donkey Kong games are much better than their Metroid games because they actually feel like a natural progression from the previous DK games and are good because of their gameplay and not because of muh atmosphere and immersion.
I was mostly joking, but I do think it's the weakest.
I think that the caves completly destroy the point of the Pikmin formula: limited time for the day and a deadline.
I also think that the atmosphere is all kind of fucked up. for example in the first one you discover thing with Olimar as he progressively write his journal while in 2 there's an annoying robot following you everywhere.
Switching characters and more pikmin types is neat, but it got even better in 3 anyway. I admit I miss the Kacho.

I doubt a Prime 4 happens. I think it would be the best existing IP to showcase whatever graphical power the NX has, but I just don't see it ever happening.

Smash 4 is great as a multiplayer game, but it's lacking in single player features compared to Brawl, and maybe even melee (Most of 4's single player are just returning features from Melee in the first place rather than new stuff, and even though there's some new, it also loses others like break the targets and Adventure mode).
I would have to say Metroid considering Tanabe had to personally talk to the fanbase during a direct to convince everyone that Federation Force is worthy of being part of the Prime series.
Smash 4 is way better than brawl in the only thing that matters, the fucking Smash mode.

Zero and Pikmin 3 are okay, but are pretty weak in terms of the caliber of their series.
