I do this minus the following on my rust server. Whenever a new player joins I'm like "hi anything you want before you go off shitposting in my server" and they can have pretty much whatever they want.

Why do you need them to care about you? You jail yourself to how you are perceived by others. Are you a scared rat in a cage? Or a self-overcoming overman?

Should be something you do by default to people just to be nice, really. It's good being nice to people, which is a nobrainer. if it's someone you don't really like, saying goodbye would be a tad unnecessary.
