What's the best version of the Pokemon RPGs and why is it emerald?
What's the best version of the Pokemon RPGs and why is it emerald?
Why play these instead of the superior remakes nostalgia fag?
yellow
True answer is Crystal
not him, but:
>no battle frontier
>inferior animations that also take longer
>shoddy low-res 3D with frame drops as opposed to beautiful sprites
>managed to take the bland writing and change it into cringe-inducing writing
the only thing ORAS has going for it is the vastly superior metagame thanks to all the changes and additions to the game
Emerald is great, but Platinum and HGSS are both better just due to better spritework and the physical/special split.
>inferior animations that also take longer
>shoddy low-res 3D with frame drops as opposed to beautiful sprites
Gen 3's sprites weren't pretty. You might have an arguement with gen 4's or even 5's, but not 3's.
even gen 2 had better looking sprites then gen 3 for most mons
>>inferior animations that also take longer
>>shoddy low-res 3D with frame drops as opposed to beautiful sprites
Objectively wrong.
I like them, but holy fucking shit everything takes hours, iirc, gen 4 is the worst offender of all games of taking too long
Every 2D pokémon game has beautiful sprites, even gen 1 and its weirdness had charm, but hey, opinians
no, you're objectively wrong
This
I just want them to bring back the DexNav for gen VII, I spent more time catching Pokémon with that thing than I did with the story and multiplayer combined.
Mystery Dungeon games are the best Pokemon games
>It looked like shit but it had charm because it's old
Nice.
Most 3D models are better than the sprites.
the 3D models are generally good (I prefer the ones used in Stadium 1/2 and the ones in the GC and Wii games, but I still like them), the problem is them being rendered at that resolution and dropping the framerate so badly (specially when Smash 4 looks so much better than Pokémon, and runs infinitely better with more stuff on screen)
ORAS was Garbage. The other remakes were superior to the originale, but ORAS is just shit.
Well a polished turd is still a turd after all, not much they could've done with the shit fest that was gen 3
Wow you've got disgusting taste. Gen 3 is the best.. By far.
Yeah... no it's not...
I don't think you know what objectively means
Good joke
> and dropping the framerate so badly
The framerate is only bad, when you have 3D on, without it, it runs just fine.
>no battle frontier
Wasn't battle frontier Emerald only?
>The framerate is only bad, when you have 3D on, without it, it runs just fine.
not in doubles and 3v3 (meanwhile in Smash there's way more stuff on screen and we still get solid 60 fps)
>Wasn't battle frontier Emerald only?
wasn't OP talking about Emerald?
But that's wrong.
Agreed
I don't see why people hate on it, it's a good way of bringing variety to the routes without making it too easy to find things
>best region
>great mixture of new and old mons
>servicable story
>the battle tower
>top tier mon designs
>comfy gba graphics
>double battles
Emerald is the best. No joke.
>emerald
>not crystal
>first game with dual types
>day/night cycle
>week cycles
>frienship or happiness system
>251 mons is the perfect amount
>dat Suicune centric plot
>dat battle tower
>dat moment when you discover Kanto
>beautiful sprites
>gen 3
let's not get crazy, user.
>gamefreak
>bringing back features
haah waaw
BW for me, no competition.
youtube.com
Came here for Black/White.
Poképerfection.
Damn, Sup Forums really has shit opinions on everything
Never tried any of those, what are they about and is this the best one of them?
Also ORAS reverted back to Ruby/Sapphire double battles for some reason. AND you can't rechallange gym leaders or trainers.
Dual types were in gen 1
Pokemon Go
>ORAS metagame
>good
These shitty remakes and XY managed to create an even worse meta than GSC: Special Snorlax Edition
They're rougelikes where you play as a pokemon and adventure through randomly generated dungeons.
The story in each is unrelated. They all start off pretty kiddy, but if you can get invested then you're in for a pretty wild ride each time.
Explorers of Sky the best one. It makes Explorers of Time/Darkness redundant.
Rescue Team Red/Blue is also good but pretty archaic. The only big difference between these is platform.
Super is good and changes the most. The most divisive change is probably the pokemon recruitment system, which you may prefer if you dislike RNG but it depends on your preferences.
>first game with dual types
wat
also HGSS is better in every single way
Playing the new one. Just got the orb. When does this fucking game pick up?
Crystal has a really shit move pool compared to emerald.
I'd say the game gets going when you leave the starting village.
gen 3 had the best music hands and feet down
What about hacks?
Any recommendations?
Played Red++ already
Currently playing Fire Red Generations
Looking for one for Emerald (386+ plus increased difficulty. No shit like Snakewood or Flora Sky)
Also have Flawless Platinum on standby.
R/S/E: Best story; unrivaled.
B/W: Worst story; would be a better game if it didn't even have one.
I heard there was an Emerald hack with physical/special split.
Eccentric Emerald
Volt White 2/Black Black 2
Yet Another Fire Red Hack
well, doubles still see ridiculously bad pokés being used effectively, and each smogon tier is a ton of fun for me
and yes, I believe that
>limiting weather
>new abilities
>physical and special split
>mega evos
were all good additions, so yes, I very much like the current metagame
what the fuck
who actually thinks like this
I can't fathom how wrong you are.
3rd Gen is objectively shit.
Only underage will defend it.
people with good taste.
they had good shading and were the first time that the sprites weren't distorted in some way compared to the original design/artwork (gen 1 sprites were weird as fuck, and gen 2 sprites were really fucking rounded in general)
Beat Ruby back when it came out, thought it was okay, nothing special
Playing thru Emerald on my android phone and really enjoying it
>R/S/E: Best story; unrivaled
I'm a gen 3 fag and you're full of shit
>You will never get another Battle Frontier that felt like a proper theme park
okay Sup Forums you can stop joking now, HG/SS is objectively and agreed upon worldwide to be the best pokemon game, B/W + 2 coming second because they master the JRPG formula whilst combining it with the uniqueness of pokemon.
Snakewood
Heard good things about Pokemon reborn but it's too tryhard for my tastes
once you get pokeballs...
Pokemon peaked at Crystal
FR/LG and HGSS were also great but thats it.
Pokemon is too easy, and if you really get into it then you're a top tier autist. Pokefags are literally no better than ponyfags or furries.
Infact, you'll see a lot of overlap.
>predictable and monotonous in-game lore
>bland and lifeless towns
>has the most lethargic synth remixes of pokemon game music
It pains me just to play that thing
IT FUCKIN HURTS
HGSS are probably the most pretty games of the series but I can't forgive that level scaling. Personally I think Platinum and the Gen V games were better.
>pretty
The DS games all looked crap.
>what's this? Battle Dome?
>get inside
youtube.com
moh dick
Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza are my favourite pokemon legendary trio, hell they're probably my three favourite legendaries as well.
But fuck, Gen III was ass.
*ahem*
ORAS is shit, even if I am enjoying Omega Ruby my second time playing it.
It's still the lowest remake.
I just need my fix until Sun comes out.
Red/Blue of course. Literally everything that happens from the moment you turn the game on to getting that diploma is vital to understanding gaming culture.
The best evidence is that all other Pokémon games are just polished copies of this one.
>people defended GF not putting it in
>i-it wasn't in the original RS!
Fucking ridiculous.
They're all virtually the same experience from R/B to Omega Ruby/Alpha Saphire
Sure you can point to the millions of little tweaks they've added over the years but when it comes down to it your doing the same exact thing since R/B. I can go back and play blue(it's the only version i played extensively) and feel like i haven't missed much from the last 20 years of the games "evolution"
But what's the best one to emulate? I just beat Fire Red, and it still didn't scratch the itch. Which one has the highest # of catchable Pokemon?
This and pic related are the best Pokémon games and they are not even made by gamefreak.
HG/SS with a 486 pogeymanz hack. I like PerfectSilver but there are a few.
Why the fuck did the autorun button never return?
Emerald because it's Ruby/Sapphire AKA the two best individual titles, just with a better main story, a better post game.
>More difficult gym leaders
>Gym Leader rematches
>The first (and best) Battle Frontier
>Best soundtrack
>Best region
>Best legendary Pokemon
Just played through it a month ago but just typing this makes me want to play through it again.
Coincidence? I don't think so.
>Best legendary Pokemon
OK???
I think Platinum and B2/W2 are both the best games and one isn't better than the other. Which one you prefer depends on whether you hate the slow nature of Gen IV more or whether you hate the sprites in Gen V more.
gen 4 is the worst
>pokemon can control space and time and create the universe
>or trainers
Yes you can.
Best DS emulator?
>Battle Frontier that felt like a proper theme park
Exactly. Just WALKING around the Battle Frontier was an experience in and of itself because it felt like you were walking around a Pokemon Disneyland. It was huge and spaced out. Sinnoh's Battle Frontier was literally cramped into a small oval space. it didn't feel special at all, and it didn't even have as many facilities.
emerald is so fucking based. i'd say it's the best pokemon game out of them all.
>60 fps sprite animation
>no gates, meaning completely free overworld exploration
>mew/deoxys/ho-oh/lugia event compatibility
>based as fuck speed form deoxys
>johto starters dex completion reward
>all (ALL) hoenn legendaires in one game
>superior storyline with traveling to sky pillar
>dat fucking steven battle to subtly call back to the red battle in gen 2
>THE MOTHERFUCKING BATTLE FRONTIER!!!
seriously, i still replay it to this day at least once every year. so fucking good, man.
DeSmuME
Drastic on the Android is worth the 6 bucks.
Android on PC is the best for PC, but not as good as the Android one.
>ctrl + f
>"HeartGold"
>"SoulSilver"
>0 of 0
You guys have shit taste.
I would rather take that over gen 5
>Pokemon shouldn't be used for fighting so we're going to fight your pokemon with our pokemon and then steal them and release them!
Blaze black 2 or volt white 2
Hacks from BW2
Is their anything like the battle frontier in any of the newer games?
That was probably my favourite of any Pokemon game.
You fucking retard ctrl + f HG and SS you waste of oxygen hydrogen and carbon
Black 2 actually had a Hard mode though, so it doesn't need hacks.
I don't understand how anyone can have fun with mystery dungeon games, they're so repetitive and monotonous.
>"mystery" dungeon
>a bunch of square or rectangular rooms connected by straight corridors with nothing in them except a few enemies and maybe some status effect tiles if the game is really feeling crazy
>Every. Single. Time.
sorry i'm not a faggot who abbreviates things. i guess your fat fingers might get tired from typing things out completely.
When you guys played the Battle Frontier in Emerald, did you have any knowledge of the metagame at the time? I went in only knowing type advantages and didn't do that well.
And also, how did you guys find out about the metagame anyway? It doesn't seem like something you could figure out without looking everything up?
You are still a retard for not knowing how to find what you are looking for
thats not gen 1, doesnt count
that's because it's pretty much equal tied with them for best games. though i do prefer playing original gold every now and then for that comfy 8-bit A E S T H E T I C.
>said the person who is autistic about typing but didn't capitalize anything
please leave and never come back
B2W2 had PWT, where you could battle every gym leader and champion at the time. Not really the same thing but it's another really fun post game thing to do.
Reasons why HG/SS is the best
>youtube.com
>Kanto is basically Open World: The Pokemon Game
>Motherfucking Red and Blue
>You get to see your Pokemon wherever you go
>youtube.com
Hoennbabbies need to be gassed
>Best region
Literally 80% surf.
>Great mixture of old and new mons
This can be said for any gen but 1 and 5.
>Servicable story
Can be said for any gen
>Battle tower
Battle Resort, Pokeathlon, and PWT are both vastly superior to it.
>Top teir mon designs
Nah. Shit like Manectric, Crawdaunt, and Pelipper exist. Plus all the legendaries look like Mega Man bosses.
>Comfy GBA graphics
Gen 4 had better sprites and Gen 2 was comfier. Everything looked like it was made of plastic in Gen 3.
>Double battles
Got me here, double battles are the best battle type.
Gen 3 is overall one of the worst generations.
