At the end they still went back to the old formula which works perfectly fine in the games.

Because they want the freedom to work outside the Danganronpa gameplay cycle and ABSOLUTELY everybody must be able to die, including the protagonist.
Remember, they're hunting a single traitor in the future arc. No class trials, no murderers, only one insider to be found.

My prediction is that Hiro is going to defeat the guy outside the building(with help of Byakuya or Komaru etc) while Makoto finds the traitor inside.
