In Metal Gear (year 1995), Big Boss (Venom Snake - if we are to follow MGS 5) is an evil mercenary who from Outer Heaven, South Africa:
-pursued world chaos -instigated wars everywhere -violated international law on multiple occasions (prisoners of war) -got his blasted by Solid Snake
In Metal Gear 2 (year 1999), Big Boss (the actual Big Boss - if we are to follow MGS 5) is an evil mercenary who from Zanzibar Land, Zanzibar:
-pursued world chaos -annexed land for his mercenary organisation -mercilessly killed those who opposed him -kidnapped a scientist who found a way to create oil from scratch -bullied world nations -violated international law on multiple occasion (annexing out heaven, accumulating nuclear weapons, stealing nuclear weapons etc)
In Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (year 1984), Big Boss (Venom Snake - if we are to follow MGS 5) is a war hero who from Mother Base, Seychelles:
-fulfilled the legend and legacy of his 1964 victory against his former-mentor-turned-soviet-spy The Boss -dismantled every nuclear weapon in the world -wants world peace -uses his mentor's will as a maxim -avoided the extinction of the human race (no language, no civilisation) -liberated child soldiers -liberated the world
How can a man change THIS much in the span of 11 years. It doesn't make any sense. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is not canon.
>trying to understand the story in a japanese game
Nicholas Richardson
The Phantom Pain is canon. Deal with it, faggot.
Brody Gutierrez
Yeah, every Big Boss game save for MGS3 is stupid.
Jason Adams
How is it propaganda when he (you in MGS 3 and MGS 5) actually did all this
Michael Hill
The MSX games were.
Jeremiah Barnes
Zanzibar Land isn't in Africa m8, it's in central asia
Samuel Rodriguez
>implying that Venom Snake and Big Boss are the same person >implying that Venom Snake wasn't Big Boss's body double that actually did all the heroic shit while Big Boss ran off to Zanzibar Land to do evil shit It's like you want to be a windowlicking spacker.
Lucas Sanchez
whoopsie
You played MGS5 until the end? Because it's made obvious Venom Snake's actions are to be considered Big Boss's.
And hwo would Big Boss reappear in 1999 to get his ass blasted one more time by Solid Snake?
John Morgan
Zanzibar Land is where Virtuous Mission took place son.
Grayson Peterson
This piece of info was revealed in a novel I believe. But damn I love the idea of Big Boss clinging to his past so heavily as to renovate Groznyj Grad into his own Outer Heaven.
Henry Taylor
No way, you gotta give us some proof of that
Sebastian Lopez
>Groznyj Grad It wasn't Groznyj Grad. He put it up exactly where Sokolov's facility was. Groznyj Grad is quite a long drive from there, distance-wise. Also it was revealed in the official novelization of MGS4 I believe. Also even in MG2 manual you still have that one bridge explicitly called "Bridge of Sorrow". Guess which bridge is it.
Isaac Parker
doesn't half way through the game, venom snake just go crazy and just says ''fuck this shit'' and start doing evil shit ?
Jayden Gonzalez
Sorry, I was mistaken. I just kinda meant the entire area that MGS3 takes place in though.
Noah Johnson
Somebody post codec conversations. I'm not gonna look through hours and hours of codec to find it.
Or you can just believe me, I haven't made it up, senpai.
Oliver Miller
>Zanzibar Land, also spelled Zanzibarland, or simply Zanzibar, was a heavily fortified landlocked state in Central Asia, located between the former Soviet Union, China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
>Zanzibar Land was originally known as Tselinoyarsk, the Soviet region in which Big Boss carried out Operation Snake Eater during the 1960s. Following the Soviet Union's dissolution, Russia was unwilling to allow Tselinoyark to secede, due to its strategic position as a religious cushion between neighboring Muslim states. Russia sent its armed forces to invade, but failed to prevent the emergence of the newly independent Zanzibar Land. >Source: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (novelization)
Adrian Gonzalez
Yep, he never cared about Quiet and left her to die alone because his true love, Paz was gone.
Daniel Baker
And here's the direct quote from the MGS4 novelization.
>When secession movements erupted in the Soviet republics of Central Asia, one territory remained crucial to the motherland as a religious cushion between the neighboring Muslim states, and the reformed Russian government wasn't about to let it go. As the Soviet military had invaded Afghanistan, the Russian armed forces were detached to the territory of Tselinoyarsk. Yet the child state, certainly no major military power, somehow prevailed in the conflict. According to rumor, one man had organized a mercenary army, supplied a torrent of arms, and provided training on the ground. The newly independent people named their country Zanzibar Land.
It's not from Kojima's mouth, but it's from novelizations he himself approved and said were alright. Remember, there is no set canon to Kojima anyways. So if shit doesn't contradict stuff in his games, it may as well be canon.
Angel Jenkins
What I want to know is why the fuck Big Boss called his new country "Zanzibar Land" of all fucking things, when Zanzibar is already a real area in Africa.
Brandon Nelson
Welp, thanks for the insight - it only makes Big Boss circa 1995-1999 even more twisted, going back to such a traumatic place to do such evil things
Evan Myers
maybe he wanted to do it in Zanzibar but then said fuck it and moved to russia and forgot to change the name
Joshua Adams
wew
Nathaniel Jackson
sounds like a thing he would do
Juan Sanders
Canonically, kojima hated David hayter. That's why kojima left hayter to die in that sound booth. Hayter loved kojima but it was pure autism on his end. Kojima left hayter to die alone because he never cared about him.
Gabriel Walker
Because the original Outer Heaven was in Africa, it's literally Zanzibar's land.
Austin Cruz
Who knows with Big Boss. He might have just enjoyed Zanzibarian food.
Thomas Butler
>Big Boss's main base is Volgin's old base >Big Boss has kept Volgin's comatose body ( infused with latent psychic power) under lock and key for the last decade >Big Boss suddenly and inexplicably turns evil
Big Boss is possessed by Volgin's ghost, it's his final revenge. Hence why he sends Snake to kill Venom.
Luke Brooks
"big boss was quiet's one true love" guy incoming

Blake Robinson
I think you are underestimating how long 11 years is, and more importantly, no matter how you bitch about it, it's still canon, you never had a choice on what was 'canonical' in a retcon happy series that is MGS to begin with. You can bitch about how it doesn't make sense, you can say it's a shitty game, but in the end of the day, you cannot declare it not canon just because you don't like it.
Matthew Sullivan
I didn't mean to upset you.
Joseph Young
Just like Tatyana never cared about Sokolov! She just wanted Volgin's Lightning Bolt Action™ cock! Can't you just admit that you're all wrong and that I'm right?
Charles Cooper
mgs 5 is not canon it's not complete and the game has been rushed kojima was basically fired the game wasn't even released
Ian Lewis
>tatyana is the boss and the boss died in snakes hands
pottery
Hunter Evans
>mfw the Portable Ops ending was pretty much perfect to lead into MG1 but kojimbo threw a shitfit that its not canon because he didnt wrote/directed/produced/designed/catered/did stuntwork for/
Hudson Gomez
Big Boss did evil stuff because he needed to prepare Solid Snake to the war against Cipher.
Blake Russell
MGSV ruined B-Boss. He was perfectly villanous in every other iteration of the timeline, all the way up to and including Peace Walker, but then V came to and fucked it up.
Ryan Mitchell
I hated the Porta Ops story because it basically dictated that Big Boss just ripped off the idea for Outer heaven from someone else because he had no ideas or drive himself. A completely blank, impressionable non-character. Good game otherwise.
John Perry
>perfectly villanous >peace walker
>perfectly villanous >MGS3
Angel Foster
His name appears in the individual episode credits. It is canon. Eat a dick.
Dominic Thomas
its not cannon and neither are Star Wars prequel eat shit
Henry Peterson
Yeah Everyone is right on 4 chan. Quiet did want Venom's snake but Venom hated her to much to even hate fuck her.
Colton Nelson
He didn't ever get a boner for Quiet like she wanted.
Dominic James
So that means you agree with me when Venom loved Quiet? Everyone IS right on Sup Forums after all, you said it yourself
Jonathan Moore
Undoubtably Venom loved Quiet. He stopped her torture, saved her from death by the Soviets. Went after her when she ran away after Pequod arrived. Laughed, flirted, and embraced her in the rain.
Kevin Cooper
definitely Venom let Quiet go and it hurt her because he hates her.
erasing her worthless ass won't give back the time she took.
He went to go kill her with a broken heart.
She was no one.
David Ramirez
Except Venom didn't let Quiet go he went after her first to Lamar Khaate Palace and afterword following her footprints. Fighting 14 tanks to save Quiet's life was dedicated love.
Elijah Smith
There should be two X's in that picture.
Henry Hall
He abandoned her as she looked on in heart break because he knew she was there. He could see and smell her.
Ryan Cox
What the fuck are you even saying
Dominic Jones
Well, I mean the SETUP for him becoming villainous later was perfect. Terribly sorry for the unclarity.
Ian Lewis
Now you're just lying to yourself. You said everyone on Sup Forums is right, but what if the points contradict each other? I think you need to give Sup Forums a break and find something else to be obsessive over, like cleaning your filthy house
Christian Gonzalez
>in the span of 11 years. Do you realize how much can change in the span of ONE (1) year?
Logan Clark
VENOM SAW QUIET IN THE DISTANCE AND LEFT HER ALONE AND HEART BROKEN JUST AS PLANNED
Lucas Perez
It was all done to destoy the patriot AI
Joshua Kelly
Quiet left Venom as Pequod arrived to pick the two of them up. Even so Venom chased after her following the footprints in the sand. Their love was mutual.
Gabriel Watson
You seem to have a lot of delusions. Perhaps you should talk to a doctor about that.
Logan Carter
there is only one canon and Venom never wanted to bring Quiet back. He was disgusted by her and left her alone and manipulated.
Aiden Miller
>their love was mutual nope. Quiet waited around for Venom to take her back to MB but he abandoned her because no one wanted her around, she wasn't a gf or a friend or a diamond dog, just an enemy.
John Hernandez
Because he was the baddie in 1 and 2 and then later Kojima wanted to give him more depth and ended up writing him as a goody but did not manage to bridge the gap in the end because he kept writing himself into a good guy corner and V was a rushed, unfinished game.
That's it. Maybe you'll get a pachinko game explaining it someday.
Dylan Murphy
>mfw I forgot to cross 1995 Venom Snake
What were you waiting for, people?
David Reed
>Big Boss is possessed by Volgin's ghost Actually after Liquid Ocelot this can be quite true...
Gabriel Clark
I don't know if Volgin Snake is a cool or horrible idea, but I sorta like it
Juan Morgan
>Do you realize how much can change in the span of ONE (1) year? This. Hitler did damage in what like 5 years or some shit? Maybe less? 10 years is plenty of time.
Luis Diaz
1. Why does Volgin wants to revenge Snake when he has no reason to, he should more hunt down Eva. And how the fuck he can teleport and shit anyway? And even have flamehorse (and why is he on fire when he was hit by bolt?). 2. Why does game takes place in Africa and Afghanistan, places that will later become OH and Zanzibar, but does NOTHING with it. 3. What exactily is canon and not canon in PO. Haven't played it so don't know anything about it. 4. How and why does Liquid escape and how he returns and joins Foxhound? What even was a point of Eli beside to show that he was annoying shit even as a child?
James Hill
It explains why BB tells his whole plan and motives in MG2 to SS though...
Cameron Reed
all of this and then some.
Andrew Robinson
>What exactily is canon and not canon in PO Nothing at all
Levi Davis
>it basically dictated that Big Boss just ripped off the idea for Outer heaven from someone else because he had no ideas or drive himself.
I thought it was to set up a he who fights monster type of theme.
I hated it because it turned Operation Snake Eater, a last minute scramble operation in response to a plan going off the rails into a Just as keikaku bullshit
Gabriel Jones
Im too lazy to make a thread for this and this is the only metal gear thread on Sup Forums right now. Can someone recommend some good 80s or older music to add to my MGSV playlist?
James Perez
Reminder that MG1 was a setup by the real Big Boss to dispose of his body double, who had abandoned BB's plans and was instead following the true will of The Boss to find world peace.
Logan Jenkins
1. MGS always had some bosses with "supernatural" psycho mantis cyber wolf the BB (cuties) the sorrow the pain the fear the end
2. because mgs5 is not canon
3. po -may- not be canon (it has a gret story but kojima seams distant with that title)
4. because mgs5 is not canon
William Allen
I mean really as it looks like you're a pleb.
Noah Scott
While MGS5 might not have sat as awfully with me if they'd actually FINISHED the game, I doubt it'd have changed much as the rest of the story simply didn't do anything but create more holes in the hole it was supposed to fill.
Kevin Watson
This. The way he throws Boss' bandana in PW... Yes, he moved on. But he also abandoned her ideals and considered AI's actions as "betrayal". I could perfectly see how he becomes his MG1-2 self from it.
Christian Gutierrez
How was ending a 28yo series about mechs equipped with nuclear warheads with a copypasted kino tutorial a good idea?
Nathan Rogers
Where does Big Bonus fit in the timeline?
Dylan Garcia
synthpop, new wave, nu-disco and hi-nrg
>venom and quiet danced together on New Order in the bathroom
Connor Lewis
MGSV is a video game distributed after MGS4 where you can play as the legendary soldier Big Boss. That's what I think of it as, a video game within the MGS universe. I know this is head cannon but I don't care it is the only way to make it not shit.
Juan Parker
This, though I heard about some stiry leaks from 2014 that included some stuff that was indeed in the game (virus, Quiet's death, VB not being BB). But as far as it can be seen I think not much was missing because NOTHING was written in the first place. Whole game looks like Kojimbo actually wrote it as they developed it and never finished actualy script.
Lincoln Davis
...
Camden Torres
Because everybody except cipher, ocelot and Miller thinks that venom is bb. So, the acts pursued by bb are considered as venom's
>-dismantled every nuclear weapon in the world Not canon
>-wants world peace When ?
>-uses his mentor's will as a maxim That doesn't make him good
>-avoided the extinction of the human race (no language, no civilisation) He did it for the sake of diamond dogs
>-liberated child soldiers To bring them to MB. To later work for him of course
>-liberated the world He did it because it's in his best interest
Nathaniel Wright
>2. because mgs5 is not canon kek
Brandon Martin
>if we are to follow MGS 5
MGS5 is canon retard
Connor Kelly
There is a difference between saying "if we are to follow" and MGSV is not canon. You can choose to ignore a part of the canon, it doesn't make it non-canon but you can ignore it.
William Sullivan
all this talk makes me want to go and play MG2, should I do it ?
Henry Davis
Yes, MG2 is amazing and I like it better than MGS1 honestly.
Jordan Young
Should I emulate the MSX version or just go for the one that comes in MGS3 ?
Xavier Morris
>raiden
nope fami
Luis Miller
He said metal gear not MGS
Hunter Nelson
reminder that mgsv(enom) is not mgs5
Brody Peterson
What is with this fucking thread? The tone and the way everyone is talking makes it seem like this is all right out of someone's fucking fever dream.
Gabriel Turner
I think you can just play the MGS3 one I don't think there are any major differences. The only difference I know of is that the character portraits are drawn by Yoji Shinkawa instead of taken from hollywood movies. I like them better this way because it fits well with MGS but it's up to you which one you want.
Parker Martinez
are you alright?
Zachary Reyes
a bunch of fans are deciding what is and isn't part of the story based on whether they like it. same shit as usual.
