Not very accurate considering how well recieved Splatoon was.

Not very, the game would be amazing regardless of the Nintendo and Zelda branding, though it wouldn't spread so much on social media unless it had sufficient marketing (like if Sony or MS showed it at E3)

very accurate. Nintendo always gets free pass for just about anything.

Splatoon was still Nintendo.

Except all the times they don't, I guess.
Like Federation Force, Color Splash, AC amiibo party, and those many, many censorship complaint threads.

>company has a good track record for a certian game franchise
>announces new one
>"WOW HOW COME THIS OTHER NEW ONE WITH NO COMPANY HISTORY ISN'T GETTING THE SAME POSITIVE RECEPTION"
supposing the image is true, it's not that hard to see why

He's suggesting that Splatoon was initially met with a mixed response on reveal (some complaining Nintendo just made a COD cash-in or TF2 ripoff). Many speculated it'd sell poorly, they were completely wrong.

Responses like this, for better or worse, always happen when changes are done to a well beloved franchise. Not a nintendo exclusive thing. Simlar reactions happened when Resident Evil games started being more action than horror.

Extremely accurate.

/thread. I would be interested but I'd probably forget about it and wait for reviews. specially since if it wasn't nintendo it wouldn't be only on wii u

It was certainly helped by the fact that fuck all was released for the Wii U since Smash. People were hungry for anything.

It's completely accurate. To the point where it's annoying.

Consider this: Horizon Zero Dawn and BOTW are basically the same game on paper, but take a wild guess over which one Sup Forums is lauding as the savior of modern gaming?

Now I'm an idort, so I plan to play both of them. But no matter the outcome, Zelda will have a better reputation on Sup Forums. Horizon Zero Dawn could be the better game but the Nintendrones will make sure to cover up any evidence of this with an avalanche of console war shitposting.

I agree with this.
Breath of the wild looks fucking sweet, so we applaud them.
Color splash shits on a series that once touched levels of greatness, so we harass them.
Nintendo never has, and doesn't get any free passes.

The game can be legitimate shit and it would still get 10/10 across the board just because it's Zelda. It's happened before.

This.

Pretendos are finding it very difficult to downplay what Nintendo is doing right now. They can't complain about financials, because of Pokemon Go, and they can't complain about 'not having any games' because Zelda is coming out in 2017.

>Nintendo never has, and doesn't get any free passes.

You are right but you cannot deny the fact that a significant portion of Sup Forums tends to rationalize all of Nintendo's shortcomings.

>they can't complain about no games because ONE game is coming out next year

lmao

>one is a new ip made by a literally who company that made 1 other game
>the other is a established series made by a company that gave us a lot of good games

Gee i wonder why indeed

Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.

I'm in the middle of my first ever OoT playthrough

Nintendo is always a couple of steps behind, but they can really create some amazing games.

>They can't complain about financials, because of Pokemon Go
Money doesn't mean shit if the company who is making it puts out 2 games a year.

>and they can't complain about 'not having any games' because Zelda is coming out in 2017.
Hoo-fucking-ray, a single game. What if it turns out to be shit, like every 3D Zelda in the past decade?

Says the person that bought a Wii u and thought splatoon was anything other than shit. Kek.

Have you actually looked at any BotW footage? Whilst booth look promising they're little alike in gameplay, which is what people have been creaming themselves over with BotW (that, and the scope of the world, we don't know even the rough size of H:ZD's world currently)

That's just in consolewar threads where the hardcore defense force of fanbases eat up bait - same happens in Sony and MS shitpost threads just the same.

>>Now I'm an idort, so I plan to play both of them

>buying two shitty Open Meme games with empty overworlds

How do they keep on getting away with this?

I have, I've seen probably more than I should. I'm very excited for it.

But a lot of the things that people here on Sup Forums criticize HZD and Ubisoft games are all very present in BOTW.

A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever remade.

It's true. Although it's hard to compare since other games didn't have this much exposure on e3.

Not accurate at all, but neofags and other huge faggots love ripping on nintendo for stupid shit. I'm not saying ninty is perfect (far from it) but this is dumb

I don't think it'd be getting shat on but I don't think anybody would care about it. I'd wager if Breath of the Wild wasn't a nintendo IP, nevermind Zelda, it'd have about as much hype behind it as Horizon does right now.

>, and they can't complain about 'not having any games' because Zelda is coming out in 2017.

Skyward Sword has a few neat things, though I don't agree with a score as high as that the game isn't even close to shit. Just suffers too much from linearity by, ironically, following the zelda formula far too much. Not a bad game, but it is the weakest zelda game.

Any game can be legitimate shit and would get 10/10 across the board.

You sound very butthurt

If only you realized that the sole reason gaming journalists are hyping Horizon is because it has a female lead character.... They won't hype it as much as they are now if the character was a male.

Not as much as anyone that bought a Wii u.

This tbqh pham

>pshh you idiots would LOVE this game if it were part of an already beloved series full of great quality titles and a familiar setting that is expanded on massively and if you got to play as an iconic video game hero you may have grown up with

Yeah it's fucking insanity isn't it?

That's because Nintendo was targeting children and pedophiles with Splatoon. So basically, their entire fanbase.

when's Melee HD then?

Not him but I've had my money's worth with the WiiU. Not sure I'll get the NX but we'll see if ninty can get their act together again.

Don't forget to apply your butt cream man, sounds like you really need it

>But a lot of the things that people here on Sup Forums criticize HZD and Ubisoft games are all very present in BOTW.
Like what?

I don't get why BotW is compared to H:ZD so often, they really don't look much alike as far as gameplay goes - BotW focused on physics and Zelda game design in an open-world environment, H:ZD focused on combat and scavenging from what I could gather (there's significantly less footage of H:ZD than BotW)

>le SJWs are at it again, guys!!!!!!!

>great quality titles
There hasn't been a good zelda on console in over 10 years. Let that sink in

That's right.

They downplay everything that isn't a top of the line, triple A product. For example, the way Color Splash is being treated now.

There are plenty of games on the way... in fact, I'm playing old Turbografx16 games on it right now. I LOVE R-Type, and Bonk isn't bad either.

>Zelda game design in an open-world environment
you're underaged, stop posting

Delayed

Pretty damn accurate.

Can confirm. The splatoon general on /vg/ is full if degenerates.

Yes I'm aware the 2D Zeldas technically do this, but you know I meant in a 3D modern open world game.

>Open World
>item crafting
>graphics bloom
>non-linearity

Stuff like that. Basically BOTW is Aonuma trying his hand at Western gaming trends, but he gets a free pass for doing it because he'sdoing it with a Ninty game.

...

Isn't ever general on /vg/ terrible?
It's a pretty shit board

>implying you don't want Callie to bully your prostate with her magnum tentacles

then explain codename steam

Engineering games general is pretty alright.

Every MMO thread is cancer

I WANT TO FUCK THAT SQUID

One key reason people creamed for BotW so much though was how well it incorporated Zelda (dungeon) design elements into the overworld. It's the first time the 3D games managed to do so in a way the 2D games could only dream of. Plus mechanics like climing any wall, being able to throw rocks around, chop trees then lob them about; as daft and menial it may be, it looks fun.

>Sup Forums is one person

youtu.be/96WZJusSqR0
the comments, lol

Honestly mexican squids that shoot ink with mustaches would sell.

Very accurate. Who the hell would want to play as a teen spic boy?

Extremely accurate.

Most people were so caught up in the concept of a new Zelda game that they didn't even take a look at it objectively without bias. The game they showed at E3 was a gigantic turd of a physics demo like Nintendo didn't know Half-Life 2 came out 11 years ago.

Every piece of music in the demo that wasn't their trailer song sounds like it was randomly generated by a 4 instrument piece of computer software or otherwise captured from a 3rd grade school "band" performance. no sense of rhythm or harmony or even intentional design.

It was esentially just a tech demo and a very early one at that. They said there would be Dungeons in the game but they had no dungeons to show off either in trailer footage or gameplay which probably means they have spent the majority of the past 4 years in development working on implementing Havok physics and trying to create a nice overworld and the game probably wont actually be finished until 2018 unless they double the staff, a staff which is already double past Zelda games since they're allegedly using Monolith Soft to help co-develop.

Game would be a literal 4/10 if the demo is representative of the final product, which is scary to think about when considering they had a "story" portion of the demo with a voiced narrator that directly speaks to and refers to your character as "Link" so fuckin say goodbye to the longstanding Zelda tradition of naming your save file and character.

We can only hope a community of people vocalizing these concerns isn't needed for Nintendo to understand if they don't already that they really need to put a lot more work into BotW to actually make it a good game let alone something deserving of the Legend of Zelda title instead of some spinoff shota twink knockoff combination of Gmod and Minecraft survival.

This.
I wouldn't even question it, I'd just buy it for novelty's sake.

Chitoge sucks, Onodera forever

>one of these can aford 90s-era commercials for tv and the other cannot
gee i wonder why it's so much better

I don't see it, but I'm also not the target audience since I don't care about minecraft or meme simulator games that the new zelda seems to obviously take influence from. Its a smart move on Ninties part for sure, but the game is gonna be trash

Not trying to be contrarian or anything, but BOTW looks like a really basic open world game. All the new stuff is only new to Zelda, not really vidya, and that kinda makes it hard to get excited for (imo).

Someone has a bad case of the nitpicks.

They didn't show off dungeons/villagers because they would spoil some of the plot (which they were adamant to keep a mystery, suggesting some twist is involved)

The music complaint doesn't even make sense, and I'm speaking as a musician (pianist).

How is it even like minecraft what

You people sure are desperate to shit on this game even if it means completely illogical and unexplained posts.

No other game does quite what Zelda is doing.

Climbing on any wall in a 3D open world game is new

Spreading fires in grass is also new afaik, as well as fire creating an updraft when gliding

>showing off any dungeon, even indoor combat, would spoil the plot
I don't believe that for a second. I don't see how they honestly thought making ganondorf an old man and making him the first NPC you fucking talk to didn't already spoil the plot.

Don't be autistic.

this would be true if there were any cases of a BOTW ripoff existing.

tell us how that spoils the plot you little shit

not remotely accurate. if the game turns out to be decent it will get alot but if it was really a new first party IP it would be loved.
>climb anywhere!
>physicics puzzles!
>Do things in any order!

at the very least it would become a game with mixed reviews that gets a sequel because they cant let it die

I'm not sure it's Ganondorf given the Calamity Ganon surrounding Hyrule Castle, plus he looks more like the king of Hyrule than Ganon to me.

sort of. I'm not as interested in the mechanics themselves as I'm interested in what a zelda game with these mechanics would be like. I'm interested to see what the team will do with them. I don't really care about comparing this game to others with these mechanics but rather with other games in the same series.

I wasn't as interested in horizon because i didn't really care about the setting, the point of hunting metal dinosaurs seemed stupid, and I hated how the mc was blabbering to herself like all of the cinematic games of recent memory. Shit like that made me not enjoy playing last of us.

still looking forward to last guardian

lmao sonykek just mad splatoon outsold bloodborne

>Climbing on any wall in a 3D open world game is new
A lot of games let you try to climb, they just don't necessarily let you succeed.

>Spreading fires in grass is also new afaik, as well as fire creating an updraft when gliding
The first one is in so many games it's impossible to list them all. The second one is in Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood at least.

Pretty-much spot on.

Honestly, this game doesn't offer much than The Elder's Scrolls.
Not even a fan of those games but seriously. It's like nintendo fans have never had open world before.

>omg but there is cooking, a totally new feature never seen before!
It's the same shitty crafting mechanic of every single RPG from the last two decades but with cooking elements instead of armor/potion making parts

>Spreading fires in grass is also new afaik
you dont know shit then

youtube.com/watch?v=ax_MCN6aHME

game is almost a decade old btw

Hell, Monster Hunter has cooking, as does Skyrim (and as we all know, Skyrim is kinda basic when it comes to RPGs).

The climbing thing is completely new, in no other game can you climb literally any surface in an open world (except in shrines just because those have smooth surface to prevent cheating, but shrines are separate from the overworld anyway). Not sure about the fire thing but I'll take your word for it as I'm too lazy to look into it.

youtu.be/Da5i_bLRaMo
Go to 19:15 in the video and watch for about a minute for the "action" theme to kick in once Link starts fighting the ice blobs.

This is literally just noise. Its like every instrument is a completely different person trying to play their own song simultaneously. It's a retarded mess.

But user you can actually climb that mountain!

Doesnt suddenly validate the fact that IF Horizon was good and BotW was shit that there would be shitposting to oblivion.

He's practically Seth from Phantasy Star 4.

It's sickening the amount of nintendrones commenting there

There is one guy saying
>none of us heard of this game before so it's not a ripoff of Splatoon

>in no other game can you climb literally any surface in an open world
>except in shrines
user, what? If you can't climb up shrines, you can't climb up literally any surface.

>Horizon Zero Dawn and BOTW are basically the same game on paper
no

I see way more people complaining about people saying this game is a revolutionary game-changer in videogames than I see people say this is going to be a revolutionary game-changer in videogames

>in an open world
Reading comprehension.

Needs more greentext about wanting to fuck Link .

Franchise I like vs Another franchise

Gee that is hard. This image applies to pretty much everything

This.
Nobody said it's revolutionary, just mixes many tropes and adds a bit of spice of its own.

Open world games don't have overworlds per se, everything is apart of the world. You can't say "You can climb literally any surface, except this one which doesn't count because reasons".

it lacks a lot of accuracy
the left game is avoiding the cinematic scenes that would plague the right game, unless it was skyrim 2, which would be as well received (by count, more than by apparent quality)
