any reviews out for this bitch?

yes

review embargo ends in like an hour and a half

famitsu gave it 8/8/8/8

Not yet...and metacritic still empty

I was thinking about it... but it looks shallow and filled with forced drama. The reviews of the japanese version didn't sound good as well.

After reading some reviews and watching the gameplay and listening to the OST, I didn't buy it and I'm happy with my decision.

Is this on 3DS

I'm worried this game goes the same way as Bravely Default. Beautiful game, great mechanics but that damn "shallow and filled with forced drama" plus lack of charisma. But I still want this so fucking bad

I think Bravely Default did a better job. I just read that in this game you don't have to explore and it's focused on storytelling making everything very linear.

I preordered it on GMG and am still waiting for my key to come in. I need it as soon as possible and desperately hope this game has pre-load as my internet is going out tomorrow.
PS4, Vita, and PC, but the Vita version isn't coming out in the West.

Nope, but it is on Vita, which isn't coming to the states. PS4/PC only here in Burgerland.

Fucking assholes.

Is there a physical copy coming out? Also is there any rpgs on ps4 worth owning?

Only if they bring us the Vita version.

jap reviews are not good. basically it's a half made game with too much piano and muh sadness

Anyone knows about its lenght? Are there side missions/collectibles?

why the fuck didn't they make a game in UC instead

Japs said there are some side quests but not many of them and it takes around 20h to finish it.

Yep.

I'm a stingy fuck and knowing PC sales are a thing only makes me that much more stingy. I was able to get it for $30 but I'd have rather only spent $20 on it.

-LITERALLY- Chrono Trigger

>it takes around 20h to finish it.
That's the perfect length for me.

It's kinda half-baked, and it keeps trying to focus on the whole "Hey, I'm gonna die, hey, you know I'm gonna die right, please care about me because I'm going to die" with setsuna the entire game. Also chrono trigger's battle system and even it's ANIMATIONS were better than what this has.

>2016
>pre-order

There is SRW Moon Dwellers if you're a huge mecha fan. First SRW game to get an official English translation in a decade.

I got it for $18 on Steam.

I think that's what they were aiming for. Sort of like a how a bunch of indie games market and go for the muh retro style all the time.

...

This kind of thing just breaks my heart. I know I'll never enjoy a game as much as I did when I played Chrono Trigger as a kid :(

Ikenie to Yuki no Setsuna (PS4) – 8/8/8/8 [32/40]

These are the points the reviewers made:

-Embodiment of the concept of good ol' RPG. Graphics have deep flavor, sad story, piano BGM help bring atmosphere
-Battles are steadily interesting
-They don't really feel anything originally new
-Stone customization & Strategic element in Setsuna system are good
-Too much loading in towns, a bit troublesome
-Takes about 20-25 hours to clear

When was this? Shit.

Also anyone have the preorder wallpaper?

I will be happy as long as its fun to play. So as long as it has good mechanics and is reasonably long it would make me happy.

That's fine, the Chrono series shouldn't have a sequel.

At $20 this game would probably do alright.
At $40 I think very few people are going to give it a chance.

Isn't that quite generic? You can probably find scene like that in most jrpgs.

"It is obvious that the focus of I Am Setsuna is on storytelling and not adventure and exploration. There is a world map, but it is sectioned off in that there is usually an open area in-between towns and in order to get to another area you have to pass through one of those towns or a dungeon. In these open areas however, you will find that the only places to go are the place you came from[...]

[...]Much like the story and environments, character progression is also fairly linear.[...]

ll in all, I Am Setsuna is a solid first RPG for Tokyo RPG Factory. Despite some of the design choices made seemingly for the sake of feeling old-school I enjoyed my roughly 40 hours it took me to complete. While the main plot is kind of weak, as are the two protagonists, luckily the rest of the cast was interesting enough to keep me going. This is good as after a few hours you will have seen everything in the game and gained the ability to break it. The music is also fantastic, fitting the tone perfectly. A word of caution though, do not play I Am Setsuna expecting to laugh, or be cheered up. The Japanese meaning behind Setsuna's name says it all, sorrow. This is a sad, sorrowful story from start to end.

Verdict: 7.5 / 10"

"Treat it for the bargain-priced nostalgiafest that it is and don't expect the Second Coming of JRPGs, and you might find you get your money's worth out of the experience."

He lives in a country with a shit economy. Its not that price for most people on Steam

I want to try it. If it was at least physical at 40 I would buy without thinking. Digital games are a fucking scam.

-LITERALLY- Chrono Cross

>ATB

No thanks.

Oh Kid

Is there a more overrated battle system than this shit?

I have been excited for this game since I read about it January. I preordered it the other day on the PSN and it came with 2 PS4 themes and an OST of selected tracks that is only available to me when the game is out. The themes are simple and the music they play is quite beautiful.

>it was $40.00 for digital download only
Not going to lie, this did feel like I was being cucked. It did not sit well with me. I have never paid $40 for a digital game, much less pre-ordered one. But hey, this is the state of console gaming. The other 6 PS4 games I have are physical releases and they are merely a disc in a flimsy case - no manuals, no nothing. Might as well just go all digital at this point.

I only want to play this game on my Vita, so I'll probably just do remote play. I hope it's not too laggy.

I still feel $40 is a bit too much for this one, specially being digital only.

And don't worry about remote play, it works fine.

...

No.

oh shi-

>why doesn't my console that no one bought get any games?
You were the one stupid enough to buy a vita.

>Beautiful game, great mechanics but that damn "shallow and filled with forced drama"
You just described every JRPG i've ever played

It's not that that user was stupid for buying a Vita, it's that millions of people in the Western market were stupid for buying PS4s. Western Vita owners are just paying the price for other's stupidity.

Vita is the best hardware you can get if you're into jrpgs

>Skyrim was inspired by Chrono Trigger

ikr

Just go and play Persona

I'm hoping the drama isn't too shit. I played VNs so I know Japanese people can write. It just never seems to happen in JRPGs.

Most of newer jrpg are all about flashy techniques and fanservice, but you can still find some really good stuff out there

GMG has it for 35 bucks.

I'll buy it since these kind of games aren't made anymore and the more the better

They don't have to bother to care about such things.

They kinda used to however.

I added this to my wishlist but I have no idea what it is about, or what genre it is. No idea what the gameplay is.

You're a very oblivious person!

why does it feel like there was nothing shown about this game save for a few screenshots here and there?

and i only recall seeing one short gameplay video.
i still thought the game was still in its early stages of development but it comes out tomorrow?

OK.

I ignore games so I don't get them spoiled for me.

The Walking Dead was ruined for me.

INSIDE, I ignored, got right away, played through it blind, and absolutely loved it.

Less spoils more enjoyment

Oh shit I am a huge mecha fan, what's the best site to buy this off of and which is the version with the english translations?

i would if it wasent digital

how about this

youtube.com/watch?v=N7BfVrCocO8

IM FUCKING SOLD

For how much they are asking, I will wait to see what people have to say about it, especially for PC.

No way I am supporting the idea of pre-ordering.

looks pretty meh

Is there porn of it yet?

They went a bit nuts with the piano. Otherwise, it looks interesting.

No.

>setsuna
NO, I AM GUNDAM

I'm a sucker for a good piano, and old school RPGs, the game is basically pandering directly to me.

I'm pretty burned out on sadness between Re:zero and Danganrompax2 though, where's all the joy at?

review embargo lifts in literally like 5 minutes

HERE COMES
ALL
THE
6/10s

Remember to subtract 10% for the "JRPG tax".

There are no fucking "professional" reviewers that like JRPGs

>3/10 it's okay.

Trips confirm. Any >70 score for an RPG is a good sign

>mfw I was one point off

attackofthefanboy.com/reviews/i-am-setsuna-review/

Play-Asia probably. It's the Asian English version on PS4.

what website

opencritic.com/game/2879/i-am-setsuna

Guess it's shit.

>digital
>preorder
why

Seen about five reviews so far, all between 70 and 80.

I'm kinda torn.
I want to pirate the game and play it first, but I also want to encourage companies to make more games like this whether this one is good or bad.

Squareenix is finished and bankrupt

Damn. One off.

I like the piano but they really overdid it

Operation rainfall loves it

operationrainfall.com/2016/07/18/review-i-am-setsuna/

I guessed 77. 2 points below the actual score.

>39,99€ for 20 hours of a guy going bonkers on a piano
Nope

Another glowing review

rpgsite.net/review/4918-i-am-setsuna-review

...

Seeems it will be worth getting as soon as the price gets cut in half.

Let me paraphrase all these reviews.
"It fills it's niche, if you like said niche, you'll like the game".

>low budget indie JRPG with low-poly 3D
>no physical copy or Vita port

>Reviewed by the same guy that said Xenoblade Chronicles X was bad because it was 'too complex'

>Seems it will be worth getting as soon as the price gets cut in half.
>one of those games that's purely for a focused niche
Yeah, it's looking like that's the tl;dr version. It'll be worth it at 50% off for those of us who like that kind of game (probably overrepresented on Sup Forums) but it's not one of those special gems that's worth full price either. Not horrible, but plenty flawed.

Oh well.
>bankrupt
The game looks like it cost them a couple of doujins and JAVs to make so it doesn't actually need to do very well to make money, and even if it makes zero money it's a drop in the bucket.

In all seriousness I'd like to see that more actually, with big devs doing simple small titles aimed at smaller audiences. Even if a lot of them fail some will be good and there would be more variety vs $100-200 million+ mega titles that have to be generic and risk-free as fuck and really can bankrupt a dev.

Where's the IGN review

Sounds like a good way to waste money.

>low budget
>expects physical copy and more platform ports
