i read a couple of crossed comics, it think it isnt really trying to be edge, since only the infected do all sorts of crazy shit.

regular people are just trying to stay the fuck away from them or survive.
most of the stories were about how life changed and how humanities depravity have always been there, but they just got turned to 11/10.

most of it is shorts stories and crap, so no mary sues or main characters.

lots of crazy pics, its cool if you have a gore fetish, since most of the nude parts people are covered in guts and blood.

Well, to be fair, Brothers Grimm reimagined the original stories into edgy shit. Then people thought they were clever mentioning the Disney versions aren't as dark as the Grimm's one, forgetting their shit changed other crap.

So, technically the source material isn't tame, since people think Grimm's are the original shit.

The Grimm version is only edgy if you think about it. Stuff like "the wolf ate the mother and then later the hunter cut open the wolf and got the mother out" wasn't described as some bloody, gory mess, but a wholesome tale for all ages.

It's just like doujin covers. The cover artist often doesn't even do the inside story, or does a good cover and shitty insides.

Crossed doesn't sell very much and it's still one of the more popular graphic novels. It's for teenagers, essentially.

If you want your magazine or comic to be displayed in a store that isn't a adult store you can't show nudity on the cover. You can do whatever the fuck you want inside but the cover has to be "all ages", which basically just means "no nipples, no buttocks and no bush/vag".

There isn't that many. France has a fair few though. I've long looked for a translation (english) of Black Moon Chronicles. Which is a D&D campaign the author was playing and he wrote into a comic. Had full front nudity. Alas, some user sent me them once and I can't find them. Might have been a trick to infect my PC though. I can't remember.

Best thing to come out of Crossed was Wish You Were Here, which was a really well written and eventually well illustrated comic.

Everything else is kind of shit, but Wish was really, really good.

Oh I know. My point was, they were cautionary tales told for a very specific reason. The Brothers Grimm decided to make them 'adult' stories, if you want to go that way. As in, they were stories for adults, the idea being adults would like a twist on the tales they heard as kids.

In time though, people forgot that the original stories were essentially myths, legends, folklore or twisted real life events made to keep communities and specially kids, safe. Once upon a time, wolves were rampant across all of Europe, including UK. Bears too. Dangerous shit to even groups of grown men, let alone kids getting bored in their walled village who ran into the woods.

I wonder if our ancient ancestors did the same with cave lions and shit.
