I'm not sure how you play explosives without the throwing buff and the long barrel upgrades to the grenade launchers. You barely throw or launch shit to a range that doesn't hurt you.

I love New Vegas and really want to install a bunch of mods and play it again but I just feel like I've played it so much that none of it feels even slightly remote to me. I know what almost every building and cave looks like, what's around every corner, etc.

It sucks.

At least when I went to play FO3 again recently it had been so long that I didn't remember anything. I guess I'll just have to wait a few more years to play NV again.

There's something called NV Interiors, I believe.
It opens up basically every building in the game, like all of those closed off ones, and adds in some collectables and stuff.
Then, you can add in restored contact which will add a lot of new, but canon people about.
There's other stuff, too, but I'll let you find that on your own, personal taste and all.

It's a bit of a taste testing everything there working with everything else for a comprehensive guide, as in, needing several clean installs.
I could probably do it, but it kind of sucks when /fog/ wouldn't update it in their OP, so why bother?

I had to buy one a few years ago for all the older games I play, but an external one, those that plug in with a USB port like a hard drive, go for like $5-10.
I'd suggest getting one.
Even then, when you buy a disc, all the disc does is mean you can install most of it off of the disc.
You still get a Steam code so you don't even have to put the disc in ever.

It hurt me thw most in Ceasar legion frumentarii playthrough. At least in NCR playthrough I play it as rogue Desert Ranger who decide to give some helping hand to his old comrade. It ia great that in Lonesome road, Ulysses actually refer to you as undercover legion and you can go along with such, refering to "our brothers" and all.
