Does anyone on Sup Forums still use a Tube TV or CRT Monitor to play games?
Just thought I'd ask.

only for old stuff
I do but the newest console I use is a ps2 so there's that. I have a flat screen but I use that just for netflix.
yeah, I've kept one just for anything older than 7th console generation.
Can you even still find these in stores?
That specific model was never available in stores. Tube TVs in general are still basically free though.
Of course, for Melee and PM
thrift stores/craigslist have them for $0-$5
No
I only have a 19 inch tube TV.
Haven't bother to get a new one since this one still works.
Are any companies out there still making tube tv's?
Yeah, I've got a small crt tv for wii emulation and consoles older that the wii.
I've also got a HP7550 crt monitor on my desk for older pc games.
Pretty happy with them desu senpai
Possibly in China, but I seriously doubt it.
I got one for the low low price of FREE in Craigslist a while ago, really it's the only acceptable way of playing anything below the PS3/360.
Can't beat free.
>tfw my parents got rid of one of our last tube televisions
I was actually kind of mad. Should have stored that shit instead.
Yeah, I have a heavy ass tube tv for the Wii and older consoles
...
yeah, can't really see the point playing
I got an old monitor I dust off and hook up whenever I decide to go on a DOS game binge.
I think I have one of those. Not quite sure what to do with it since I don't really have a desk to put it on. Free from a value village who wasn't accepting TVs anymore. They were going to throw it away.
only if you cant emulate
emulating old games is awesome. hd remaster with a few tweaks (and its actually better looking, not just more bloom)
What would happen if I were to hook up an NES or Genesis to an HDTV?
literally everyone who still plays smash brothers melee or project M in a competitive. there are probably a million people who still do
It's the only kind I've ever used, for a number of reasons.
My parents actually just traded out the old CRT they had in the living room for a Smart TV. The thing was about 18 years old and still worked great so I took it since they were just going to throw it away. Just need to find a place to put it now.
mustard gas
You would get a blurry image. They're not intended to be played on HDTVs.
Also, input lag out the ASS.
A very awful bad thing
I only ever tried it once so I can't say for certain, but when I did it added one of those filters that you see people talk shit about in emulator threads all the time.
If I was a millionaire I'd buy a CRT factory, is a niche market that needs to be filled..
In Latinoamerica people still buys them, I think is the same in any third world country, the difference of price with a LCD is appreciable..
There are special cables that they sell in Taiwan or something that can output pre-gen-6 games to an HDTV in proper fashion but they're like $300 or something crazy. I think Classic Game Room did an episode about it, if it wasn't them it was someone like them.
I used one for the guitar hero/rockband craze a few years back. playing on hdtv had a lot of input lag and CRT was flawless. WAY more fun
absofruitly me nan
got my ps2 and gc hooked up to it
I've considered it for older games but never bothered.
Why do you think Guitar Hero/Rock Band died out like it did? I remember it being a pretty fun time for something that many deemed a 'fad', had good times with bros and we still play it today when we're all together.
oversaturation, they were pumping out games like crazy. but at the same time not really changing the formula at all. people got bored I guess
>music genre dead because input lag
>fighting games dead because input lag
What other genres got completely killed by the switch to High Definition?
Yeah these tv's should at least still be made or stay around in some capacity because many of these old consoles just cannot be played well on a modern tv.
I noticed that these modern tvs also suck ass and break a lot easier where as the tube/crt seems so much more durable and longer lasting.
Had it since high school. I use it for my gc era consoles and below
I was going to say dance games (rip DDR) but then I remembered that Ubisoft churns that shit out on the yearly.
For games before HD resolutions, yes.
>probably a million people
wut
>I noticed that these modern tvs also suck ass and break a lot easier where as the tube/crt seems so much more durable and longer lasting
my eyes are being killed
maybe im just paranoid does anyone else feel like digital screens fuck up your eyes more than CRTs ever did? I never had eye strain on CRT from what I remember. Any facts or studies on this ever done?
There's a certain charm to having a tube TV. I can't really describe it. I'm not even trying to be one of those "retro hipster" shits.
I've been playing old games on the same tube TV I grew up on. They almost NEVER break. Thng probably has 100,000 hours on it.
Yeah, the comfiest.
I've never had trouble with modern monitors, or old CRTs.
Old LCD screens will rape my fucking eyeballs though.
It died out because instead of having a solid core game and just releasing track packs, they kept putting out "new" games. The durability of the peripherals was also an issue, especially in the case of kick pedals and strum bars.
GH tried to reinvent their system and screwed the pooch hard.
>all that blur
You know someone figured out gameshark codes to remove the anti aliasing on the N64 right?
I have a Samsung Syncmaster 796MB+ (1600x1200)
put side by side with a LCD, the difference in the definition is atrocious, the LCD looks smeared as fuck
>each pixel takes a unit of energy to look at
>the more pixels the more energy it takes to look at
>digital screens have lots of pixels
>like holy shit so many pixels
>1920x1080 like whoa mama
>too many pixels, lots of effort on the eyes
>meanwhile older screens don't have as many pixels
>takes less effort to look at pixels because there are less pixels
>eyes not as tired or hurty
Then you get dithering and pixelization.
>like common koopas
Not being pol here but isn't that like saying "Like common niggers"
yes, it is Japan anyway so they can get away with it
Which is fine since tube tvs naturally ace as a form of anti aliasing anyway. I'll take non dithered textures with sharper image any day.
fuck u wheres the science proof
nah, here in huezil everyone has a lcd tv or at least a plasma one, even poor families supported by the government
I am pretty jealous tbqh
>crts too big and bulky
>PVMs are rare and expensive
>framemeister is even more ridiculously expensive
>tfw
just buy an oscilloscope
i just like saving images of them.
Yeah. I'll probably look into these newfangled LCD TV's once it finally stops working.
Been thinking about tracking one down to use with older consoles, but fuck, I have bad memories of using a big screen CRT that only did 480p and 1080i with my 360 and I remember the choice was always blurry 480p images or 1080i image that was projected about 20% to large for the fucking screen and I couldn't see my entire hud.
