Why does Sup Forums hate No Man's Sky so much?
Is it because Sony is backing it?

it's because people are making threads about it

biggest game ever created, may actually be the biggest game of all time
even if it lacked substance you could not fault it for that alone

>quantity > quality

Really user?

I just created a bigger game in a few seconds, there's like this large empty area and you can walk in any direction INFINITELY

literally no limits

Because I haven't seen anything interesting outside of procedurally generated universe. Which is neat as far as scale goes but how fun simple crafting with some exploring possibly be and for how long?

There no premise other than to explore cliche imaginary worlds through a cliche cool blue filter that meshes the trash together.

it's not about faulting it but that's nothing to praise either

randomly generated shit is randomly generated shit. you could say any randomly generated game is the biggest of all time. you could say the cell game is the most complex game of all time.

i'm pretty sure tes:arena already did that 20 years ago

Joe danger baby. Why the fuck would I be exicted for a game made by the Joe danger faggots?

Your game sucks, Notch.

Minecraft ends at the farlands.

because $60 and it legit looks like there's nothing to fucking do, but it'll be on my radar for a couple weeks after release to see if there's some surprises hidden in there

>Random
It's not randomly generated, friend.

I don't hate it, I just won't play it. Make your own fun games are really terrible to me. I want a set of challenges to overcome and good combat can carry a game for me. What can't carry a combat is wandering around exploring doing fuck all that isn't happening in my head with some sort of roleplay.

Farlands don't exist anymore

>Company claims No Man's Sky uses its patented equation without permission

so, some dutch company claims they stole "their" SUPErformula to make that game(formula was in a paper 10 years ago)

so they used something from someone else it might not be that terrible then

Well minecraft is shit now so it doesn't matter.

11/10
Would buy again

>there is gog version

No Man's Sky will be to Minecraft what Starbound was to Terreria

Not buying it unless there's a feature that will allow me to teleport or wormhole, or whatever to my friends, if only a one time thing.

Oh good it's free then

and?

It doesn't, you can walk in the Farlands forever

I don't hate it. I'm fairly annoyed with how long its taken to come out and shit.

Wait why did they get rid of the farlands. That shit looked lit.

Is... is sony making these threads about it?

They didn't steal anything. They "allegedly" infringed on a patent.

Sup Forums usually calls me a Sony Pony. I still don't really like the look of the game. Just seems like a disappointment simulator.

Tell me how this doesn't look cool
youtube.com/watch?v=4dOk2uBTYAE

It's free.

It was accidentally removed in beta 1.8 (which also killed the rest of the game), and the devs never bothered to re-implemented it

I dunno, they just did. Now you can just walk forever

Yeah me too, hopefully this patent shit does mess with anything. It's stupid enough we had to deal with that "sky" shit.

Spore broke our hearts and we won't be falling for those same tricks again.

doesn't*

>one weapon
>enemies don't care that they're being shot at
>that creature that literally just looks like it's from spore
K E K

>generalizing everyone's opinion who browse a cheese wheel eating forum
Sup Forums isn't one person

>I wasn't hear for Spore but I'll pretend I was
Nice one

It looks nice but that's it. I've fallen for traps like this so many times. Game is like a big budgeted indie game with no real vision past the universe itself

I'll have to play it to form a real opinion but I'm just not excited about it.

I been waiting far a game like this for 20 years.
idgaf what Sup Forums thinks this will be the game I will pick up and play whenever I feel like exploring, until I die.

Just play Aurora

SKY'S THE LIMIT Sup Forums

Might as well be with all you animu posters. Fucking fags.

>no multiplayer

>>>/reddit/

>why do you hate this game?? it because it has no gameplay, no wait look over here lol console war thread!

Kindly swallow a cyanide pill

>4X Space Sim

Literally the opposite of No Man's Sky

But it does have game play. Any evidence you're given though and you'll move the goalposts saying that's not "real" gameplay.

There needs to be some kind of in game communication system as a way to find other players. Also, permadeath would make the way people play a lot more interesting.

Because every time the developers talk about it they are exceedingly vague about the actual mechanics.

It took over 2 years before they finally said how their "multiplayer" model actually works.

They still have not given any idea how upgrading, trading, or collecting works.

We only have an idea how the combat works (and that it is extremely shitty) from the trailers; the devs have been just as vague talking about the combat.

Everything screams "building up hype for an extremely shallow experience/take advantage of people's desperation for a galaxy explorer by purposely obfuscating their product to make consumers think their expectations will be met."

The game screams pretentious and con job.

A better question is "What has been shown that is actually there to like?"

You're right, because Aurora is good

Because pic related.

>Get presented with a sensible point of view
>DUHHHH KILL URSELF :)
Faggot.

it's a good thing

>Sup Forums isnt one user
anon.....

Now that's how the new Zelda should look like

Minecraft does still have a limit. They've added a wall about 30 million blocks from the center of the world. Game physics break down as you get closer to the edge, so it's tough even getting there.

Fuck off Yui

I don't hate it. It looks cool for what it is. I'm impressed with the level of proc gen they implemented in this game, it makes me excited for the kind of games we could see years from now that will have more fleshed out mechanics.

As to why people hate it? Some people feel like the game is hiding or being shady by holding back some details, and it is kinda shady. Why people believe this is part of a larger sinister conspiracy to scam people, is beyond me.

Underrated post

>we created a literal universe
>with nothing to do

>Game without multiplayer is a bad thing
>Sensible point of view

Refer to my original post

You can't have a game totally based around discovering totally new procedurally generated worlds in a complex environment, I don't know why people don't understand this. Dwarf Fortress manages to do it, but look at how horridly simple the design of the game is, visual-wise. How does a small indie team with almost assuredly much less raw autistic talent than the DF devs hope to pull off such a game that remains interesting for more than like an hour?

DF succeeds because it procedurally generates stories, not just a bunch of animals thrown into a random generator.

I 100% agree with this, but I don't think a game should be hated for trying. Gaming can be cool because it pushes boundaries of what can be done, and I feel like NMS is at least doing something new with procedurally generated content. Still shouldn't be $60 dollaroos though

Oh I don't hate it, but I'm definitely not going to buy it

>hate
I'm getting really annoyed by their marketing
>billions of worlds!
>will take 2000 years to fully explore!

WOW
Everyone fucking knows that shit is just randomized and will completely lose its appeal after 10 planets

I could've posted any image, but the fact that I chose one with an anime girl for my post bothered you so much that you replied.
Nothing more to my response, I just think it's interesting to point out.
Have a nice life.

...

Just the fact that discovering shit is all visual in this game and they have a small as fuck team that can only produce a limited amount of assets means this game will be shit

You can only see the same alien on different planets so many times

People are just shitposting. 50% of the threads on Sup Forums is just cancer.

Not him, but I don't think it's really bothering anyone

It's more like when you are out with your mates and see a fat person, you point, laugh and move on.

youtu.be/pWLs7EkjT74

It's actually pretty interesting how they did the aliens.

why don't people just played starmade instead? It's basically the same game but you can build your own ship

From the first minute or so and skipping around it a bit it does seem interesting

But I still think that with any procedurally generated thing you start to see the pattern eventually and that's the second it all falls apart, especially if the main thing you do is look at stuff

There's only so much they can do with math, I'd imagine there's a bunch of archetypes with variations that are partly randomized and I just don't think seeing an alien that's blue instead of green and has longer legs will make my dick explode

>I'm going to piss and moan and generally act like a cunt whilst ripping off the work put into the game

You're no better than the shitheads that don't vote but complain about politics and policy decisions.

Fuck off

so what about the planets size? can you keep walking for years until you circle around it?

the fact that nothing you do on a planet gets saved or reflects for other players is already putting me off this game

>only my opinion matters
>not fucking retarded

There is nothing wrong with multiplayer just because you have no friends or social skills, or because of your contrarian hate of the modern industry. Competitive games have a historical grounding in the human species as long as recorded history. You can't just pretend like multiplayer isn't a meaningful thing all by itself because you don't like it.

No. Each time you enter a planet it generates a square playing field. You'd have to fly off the planet, fly around it a bit, and then fly back down to properly explore the planet.

What the fuck are you smoking, that isnt true at all.

oh wow, so invisible walls?

Sup Forums wants to call the next big flop so they attach that label to whatever is getting attention. The ones that don't flop are forgotten and the ones that do they get to brag about being right.

that fucking sucks if true

Hes making it up. If you want you can just walk all the way around the planet, or fly, or both.

its not hard to spot a flop with this game

I like that X-Wing look

This is literally The Long Dark/ Subnautica and all those other games but for 60 dollars and with washed out visuals and people are unironically calling this the most amazing video game that will ever make and the last game they will ever have to buy

It will fucking blunder

At least Subnautica lets you build shit

Because it's satanist propaganda to fool you into thinking you can leave earth and explore the nonexistant space and visit spheroid planets.

Besides all the procedurally generated shit, the actual gameplay looks like absolute ass.

This. Game clearly is a $20 indie game that will be a good deal when it goes on sale for $10.

Subnautica seems alright, I will probably play that once it leaves early access.

From what I've seen so far it looks like it has more content that No Man's Sky despite not actually being released

I'll admit I bought into the hype.

I'm a sucker for procedure-generated anything, but looking at the demos I get an overwhelming feeling of wasted potential. The landscapes aren't particularly interesting. You have whole planets based on one Earth-like environment; desert, tundra, marshland, forest, ocean. With procedural generation you can do fucking anything. I'd rather be exploring insane Cthulhu-esque worlds that can crush you in ten-dimensions.

On top of that I believed you would have more impact on the universe than just naming X planet that no-one else will ever visit. Why not make the universe a fraction smaller so that you can visit other people's planets? Why not make your actions on said planets permanent?

Everything I've seen indicates that the game is about endless farming & grinding. After the hype has faded it just looks dull and repetitive. This coming from someone with 500+ hours spent playing internet chess.

I'll get it, but definitely not for full price.

gog version will be free

Saving every action you make would be impossible. Too much data from every player.

I might have forgiven this game if it had Project Sylpheed or Ace Combat space combat or some kind of actually well-made infantry combat. I might have forgiven it if we had little vehicles or some other form of alternative ground combat mechanism than some shitty multi-tool gun. I might have forgiven it if it had multiplayer, diplomacy between factions within the universe, actual valid reasons to land on a planet beyond Pickup N Go, and/or static elements on worlds that give me a reason to actually value one out of these quadrillion worlds.

But this game has none of them. It just has a really shitty INFINITE UNIVERSE spin with really mediocre combat, extremely disinteresting ships and ship designs, oppressively boring objectives, and an absolute lack of colonies we've seen gives me literally zero hope that this game will be worth any money spent on it. Space Engine is already superior.

It's so that millenials can experience a new Spore.
Millenials have already experienced Spore for obvious reasons but we've all suppressed it at this point[/spoler]
