Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

I just beat this game Sup Forums. Talk to me about these games. I need someone to help me cope with these tears.

RIP Grovyle

Play the future chapter before talking about it, the one with grovyle and dusknoir in the future, you dont want to get spoiled about it

>I feel your partner's sadness so I'll bring you back
>but fuck that other guy Grovyle and all the other future Pokemon
This was bullshit

Claim your waifu

But don't bother with Sunflora because she's mine

There's more important story stuff after beating Dialga?

Nigger is you crazy? You're only halfway through the game. Keep playing NOW

Fuck.
Well, have fun with this thread I guess. I'll return after playing a little more.
Bidoof a best

We await your return. Be prepared to get fucked in the feels even more.

The special episodes are very important, and there's a FUCKTON of post-game content. Manaphy, Graduation, 7 Sacred Treasures, Sky Peak, Spacial Tift, Destiny Tower, Azurill's Nightmare... Etc etc.

>7 Sacred Treasures
>important

If it's not story-related I don't give a shit. Just beat SMD, hype at maximum, but two seconds after losing mew to my worthless partner I stopped playing.

Do you guys think a pmd mmo would do well? If it had a turnbased system like wakfu?

There's already a fanmade PMD MMO and its pretty awful.

what's the appeal of this game besides the pokemon?

I have played red rescue team. I didn't find it very memorable.

Story, mechanics (not much a fan of normal rogue likes, I like the more forgiving mechanics), characters

Story, characters, music. You know, all those things Rescue Team sucked at. Super has pretty decent gameplay too.

Gameplay requires some level of preparation and clever usage of items in dungeons. The game has a strong focus on story and characters, and some of the music is pretty gud. Rescue Team probably has the weakest story of the series, but if you didn't find it memorable I'm not sure you'd like the sequels much more. Maybe Super since its much more mechanically advanced.

>some of the music is pretty gud

Dude, the music is amazing. They have an actual educated composer unlike pretty much every other game, the mainline included.

>all those things Rescue Team sucked at

Nigger Gengar was a great character, the music in Blue was pimping, and the story was a little more down to earth, but not bad by any means.

Gengar doesn't make up for everyone else and while the story was fairly engaging, it's a novelty that's BTFO ten times over by every sequel.

Sadly the music was really really basic and dull, it was before they got a real composer and it shows. Sort of wish they'd phase out all those old songs, getting real fucking sick of that boss theme.

>disliking the boss theme
But we got this out of it:
youtube.com/watch?v=c-MLKwDOckg
Also, I believe you're forgetting some of the really good Rescue Team tracks:
youtube.com/watch?v=IrJkX1LBTp8
youtube.com/watch?v=Cii-jKuwGoo
youtube.com/watch?v=4DIxrPUnjsU
youtube.com/watch?v=FfJfdYRRfig

The soundtrack is great and while the story isn't anything amazing overall, it has some strong moments

It's essentially Rescue Team (which I didn't care for too much either), but done way better

>the grand master of all things bad
>that boss fight
If it weren't for the fact that the fight is legitimately difficult I'd be laughing.

>Gameplay requires some level of preparation and clever usage of items in dungeons
I always thought gameplay was pretty weak. I just have to stack on oran berry and clear dungeons like a cakewalk.

Maybe i should reword, i didn't find it "not as memorable as people think". It feels like just mystery dungeon with pokemon. Story is okay because it's supposed to be childish anime thing(friendship and all that), music is rehash of main pokemon line. The only quality i see from this game is its pokemon. You can basicallly chug any type of gameplay and add pokemon it would be best selling games.

I wasn't talking about Rescue Team when I said that. I think Explorers is significantly harder than Rescue Team. I don't know user; I can't get by with Reviver Seeds and Oran Berries in Explorers; Quick Seeds, Petrify Orbs, Sleep Seeds, and things like that are all the sorts of important tools you need to utilize in order to get by in Explorers. If you don't, running into too many difficult enemies at once or boss fights will murder you. Or at least that's how I've found it.
Since we're talking about the series in general, Super in particular kicks this up several notches by pitting you up against level 50 Pokemon really early on, forcing you to use items beyond reviver seeds and oran berries if you want to have any chance of winning.

harder than dialga

if sunflora doesn't instantly kill you with petal dance then wigglytuff will kill you with doubleslap when he gets there the next turn
not to mention all the earth powers and sucker punches going off

fml

But it's just a melody and a beat. The boss theme is a melody and a beat, Great Canyon is a melody and a beat and so on. Explorers, that's when we started getting polyphony and homophony, that's when shit started getting interesting.

I'd be laughing now because pretty much every boss in Super is a gangbang, including the gangbang to end all gangbangs.

Sunflora is the easiest for me to knock out, but I'm playing as a Charmander. Wigglytuff isn't too touch since I have the attack Mirror Move. Dugtrio is what really gets me. He's so far off I can't do anything about his attacks, and my partner just winds up surrounded getting taken down in two hits.

>Story is okay because it's supposed to be childish anime thing(friendship and all that)

lol wut

I was actually so fucking salty at that fight when I first got their
Didn't help that I had FUCKING Eevee, but I got really shitslapped a few times

Unfortunately I saw this part coming since I watched the anime OVA before playing the game. I didn't realize it'd be full of massive spoilers.

This moment is so good

>childish anime thing
>mfw when 'Cressalia' tells you to kill yourselves and you find your partner musing by a cliff that night

Eevee is hard mode. Hope she gave you a nice reward, if you know what I mean

Yeah, but it's hard to talk about the game otherwise. Thankfully there are several other twists some of which I personally think are better, especially in the post-game and special episodes.

THAT FUCKED ME UP SO HARD

Almost as bad as that time in Super when Espurr betrays you. I was THIS close to throwing my 3DS out the window.

>Doom seeds

>literally every later enemy catches items
Why even include them
It's like 20 minutes per level up if you get hit

Never really found them a problem, at least in Sky. Don't you just instantly level up and regain all your stats from before after defeating the enemy anyway?

>Spite

>PP Zero Traps
Absolute, pure fucking cancer
How those got through the testing phase is beyond me

>Pitfall Traps
For what purpose?

>After all, players would sometimes play roguelike games for hours or even tens of hours, only to suddenly be dumped right back in square one with all their progress wiped out. Basically, however, all the development staff told us that this kind of game was definitely enjoyable, and that gave us the motivation we needed to get started.

Literally made from the ground up with the sole intent of making you suffer.

I thought that mew and your partner split in two so you get to keep mew.

Mew just becomes another recruit who doesn't follow you around, sleeps with you and occasionally becomes unavailable. This is not at all OK.

The Reviver Seed became sticky and unusable!

Any hacks for Super that let you pick your starter/partner yet?

Someone's trying to get it done, but it's taking them a while.
I think Powersaves lets you use some legendary combos, but you have to pay for that and you can't use anyone you want.

You nearly had me their for a second

I just want to keep Mew in the post-game. Stupid fucking plot removes her automatically. I mean, she functions just like any other partner and has all the expression so why not?

I never played the post game unfortunately
Also lost my save

Even if characters don't have the proper facial expressions and animations, the game still works fine, where it shows no portrait when one's needed and they don't have the expression, and a placeholder animation (in Sky, they used the walking animation)
I'm also waiting for it because fuck waiting until the postgame to use Poochyena, and I really don't like how the new games don't let you bring along random members as much. What happened to RT, where you were able to bring anyone along during the plot with only one small exception?

>I never played the post game unfortunately

Consider yourself fortunate because you've never had to deal with the unown cave, one of the worst bits of padding ever put into a video game

You forgot to post Mt.Freeze

youtube.com/watch?v=iJjYtHTf_wk

OK FUCK HIM FUCK HIM SO MUCH

GROVYLE DID NOTHING WRONG FUCK HIM I CRIED FOR 2 HOURS BECAUSE OF THIS FUCK

youtube.com/watch?v=wy9VvdaLuSs

I loved Rescue Team and Explorers so much, going to try and get back into Super soon. Super's 3d graphics didn't look too nice to me so I gave it a break for a little while

But user, he was only scared. He didn't want to not exist.

>When he comes through the portal and grabs Grovyle

>When he goes as far as trying to destroy Grovyle's soul in the Special Episode

Wouldn't work, the only reason you even leave the voidlands is because you had the scarves. What, was Mew going to make a third scarf and pass it around to whoever's in your team?

Childhood is wanting to save the world with Groovyle, adulthood is realizing Dusknoir is just right.

I mean Groovyle is trying to destroy his world and everyone in it to save a bunch of people he's never met while Dusknoir is like "is you smoking crack"

QUICK ANONS IT'S A MONSTER HOUSE RUN

Why the fuck are the reviews for this game so bad? IGN rated it a 4.5.

>Wigglytuff

You mean the Master of all things bad

Now don't be all hasty we just wanted to offer you some cake you paranoid fuck

Destructoid gave it 9/10. AKA the only site which didn't also bash Monster Hunter back in the day.

He a good boy, didnu nuffin

Im gonna pick up Super again
I dropped it because Im in the postgame where you're forced to do story dungeons solo and I'm Snivy in a dungeon full of Poison types.
Any tips?

I didn't play the new ones. Only up to Explorers of Darkness

BALLS
TO
THE
WALLS

SHE'S WAITING FOR YOU

youtube.com/watch?v=U_26FmINEJI

I'm sure you stocked up on lots of wands for just this kind of occasion

Don't trigger me

Use Hoopa and don't summon any legendaries since he can hold his own

He also has a chance of going unbound, wich makes him a rape train and a half

If your low on items then just input wonder codes for loads of wands/items to get through the dungeon

Oh yeah, shit. Good idea.

How many bricks did you shit? Ten here.

Now Hoopa just keeps Ally Switching me into a bunch of Poison type foes

11 bricks shat here I win!

Sometimes Hoopa is an asshat like that

eventually he'll stop fucking with you psychic everything

Do you seriously not have any wands? What about spikes, those do like 80 damage.

Super-cheap mode is to trade a gold brick for infinite reviver seeds. But that's practically cheating.

I have a ton of Blast and Reviver seeds, Im managing with Hoopa though.

Lmao have you even beat darkrai yet?

>Heat wave

I'm actually playing Explorers of Sky because I liked PSMD so much.

Are the other Pokemon mystery dungeon games worth playing as well?

Oh man I remember when my partner had Heat Wave. That shit worked wonders.

>Have played most of the way through red but got stuck at the 99 floor dungeons

>Played through Time 3 times now

Is sky worth it compared to time and darkness?
What about super?

Sky is most certainly worth it thanks to special episodes

Red/Blue aren't half bad either, but sine it's gen 3 it'll be a bit akward due to the physical special split

Gates is arguably the best when it comes to story, character and music, but the gameplay is fairly insulting.

Sky is literally T/D with more content, a lot of it better than anything in T/D.

Super is the perfect sequel. Gates isn't.

>You know you could've just choked that little shit instead of taking him to the future, right?

Anyone else who played these games completely unspoiled of their true nature? Caught me off guard, cut deep into my heart.

Take advice and play the special episode.

Jesus fuck when you and your partner get deep upon questioning what happened of your lives hurts me every time.

>It's getting further away...
>user... Is getting further away too...

>I fell for his lies

never before have I felt so betrayed

I played Rescue Team Blue because I suddenly had a DS flashcart, was interested in the Pokemon series and 4th gen wasn't out yet. I must have been about 10 at the time

I was hooked on the series for good.

>PMD thread
>no one ever appreciates Rescue Team
>endless Sky dicksucking

YOU WERE MY FRIEND YOU FUCKING PRICK
WHY

IS this game as Feels-y as PMD2? I feel like PMD2 is the only game where I haven't seen a criticism on Sup Forums, it's like the whole board universally loves it, whereas when Super Mystery Dungeon came out it got shit on pretty hard here.

>tfw I just started and got fucking riolu

I'm going to stick with it since I just stuck with what I got in PMD2 (Chimchar but a fucking fire monkey is cool as shit) but I fucking wish they didn't add this furshit to the starting roster.

Atleast I got squirtle as my partner, it's going to be weird not having my awkward little Turtwig partner from PMD2 though.

He was a p. cool guy, sad to see him fuck me like I was a tight little pussy

Well, it's the better game
Rescue Team is good, but so damn clunky after playing Sky

Blue Rescue team was my shit when it came out and I loved it to death, one of my all-time favorites.

I'm actually emulating it right now.

Team GOONSQUAD

Most people just regard Explorers as a more polished Rescue Team. There were rough edges in Rescue Team.

Super Mystery Dungeon is a hell of a lot better than Gates when it comes to gameplay, probably not as good as Explorers. It also has one of the worse stories, but it's still worth playing for the story.

Do you want us to spoil everything or something?

In shot, it's easily the most dark and gruesome Pokémon game ever made and the ending will fuck you up for life.

PMD2's ending hasn't got shit on this one.

>it's just a copy of T/D

basically, I bet the review only played for a couple of hours before saying fuck this
