Is it me or is this game not very good? I'm playing through it for the first time in a long time, currently have 109 stars and it's just not good, even for it's time, mainly because for a Mario game there doesn't seem to be a lot of platforming. Past Bob-omb Battlefield and Whomp's Fortress most of the levels are pure shit. I liked the haunted house level but the ice levels and water levels are straight up dog shit. The Hazy Maze Cave or whatever its called is genuinely one of the worst levels I've ever played in any game. In the basement area the only good level is the lava one.

So out of the 15 courses the only good ones are Bomb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress, Haunted House, Big / Tiny Island, Lava Land and the Clock Tower. 6 good ones overshadowed by 8 horrible ones. Haven't played course 15 yet so I cant comment on that.

Also the get 100 coins for a star challenge is really aggravating but my autistic compulsion to get 100% on every game is forcing me to participate in this shit show.

Its a game that was good for its time

The levels I said are good are good and hold up. The other levels I failed to mention are dog shit, even for their time, mostly because, as I said, they stray away from what makes Mario fun, the platforming.

Typical millennial retard.

It was revolutionary at the time, but it's terrible to play nowadays. Most people who praise it now are simply blinded by nostalgia.

>for a Mario game there doesn't seem to be a lot of platforming

Bullshit. Just because the levels became more abstract doesn't mean they contained any less platforming. It's literally pure platforming.

1/10

It actually mirrors SMGalaxy in a lot of ways.

t. underageb&

>it was good at the time
These are probably the people that praise shit like 3D World.
To this day, Mario 64 is still the 3D platformer with the best movement options, physics, level design and highest skill ceiling.

Correct.

it has the best controls of any game ever and you're either a mongoloid or a contrarian faggot if you think it's not a good game

I'd like to think that some people find the game good, and others don't

It's just my humble factual knowledge

>Is it me or is this game not very good?
it's you

yep

unlike other mario games, it gets better everytime you replay it

l don't get where the idea platforming has to be about jumping on moving platforms above bottomless pits comes from

if the gameplay focus is on running and jumping then it's fucking platforming, and mario 64 certainly fits the bill

You're just not playing it right.

>Mario64
>not good

wtf am I reading?

>It's literally pure platforming.
>swimming
>pure platforming

Funny. People who grew up with an N64 are the millennials. I grew up with a SNES. Faggot.

You don't have to like it

OP here, I find it interesting how all of you are talking about how it has the best movement, psychics, challenge etc etc of any Mario game. It's funny you mindless liberal-like retards spout absolute irrelevant nonsense. I never once criticized the things you're defending. I mentioned that there's 6 great levels. The 8 levels that I refer to are pure garbage though. Just poorly designed, boring, detract from platforming, etc, kill yourselves. This thread is filled with 18 year old nostalgia kiddies.

>liberal like retards
Oh look, it was a underage pol shitposter.
Move along.

>still doesn't bother to attack my arguments but instead uses buzzwords
Nice going, kiddo.

It's probably the best, yes, but that doesn't mean it's good.

Playing through it too, OP. It's great.

sunshine is better, put a bullet in your head

I wonder whose behind these posts....

so you are mad because the games levels didnt meet what you someone who decided to play it 20 years late considers what the game and levels should have been

This. OP doesn't understand the deep mechanics behind this """"game"""".

I grew up with NES and SNES Mario games and I have always thought that Mario 64 is pure shit.

>muh watergun
go choke on a dick

sorry bud, say what you want but the controls were tighter
suck a dick

Fuck off TJ """""""""""Henry""""""""""" Yoshi, you'll never ever be able to appreciate Super Mario 64

>sunshine
>working controls
even galaxy had better controls than that game

dont make laugh, people underestimate the controls because of FLUDD
my only complaint is the lack of a long jump

Swimming has been in Mario games since the very first one.

Idiot.

so? not platforming
i swear the retards on this board

>So out of the 15 courses the only good ones are Bomb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress, Haunted House, Big / Tiny Island, Lava Land and the Clock Tower.
Imagine being so delusional that you think Big Boos Haunt and Tiny Huge Island are better than Tall Tall Mountain.

SM64 is more of a game about exploring the areas around you, getting stars in a non-linear order, and coming across basic obstacles that stand in your way (simple platforming).
SM64 isn't a Super Mario Galaxy in terms of platforming, which I think would be a game suited for you.

SMG was such a great game. If only it were slightly less linear and didn't have that purple star bullshit

>people underestimate the controls because of FLUDDs controls
So the controls were shit? or are you talking about only those no FLUDD levels

galaxy doesn't have much more "platforming" than 64

galaxy 2 does

What sound does that thing make?

Super Mario 64 has the best movement and platforming options in any Mario game, period. It's just a shame the game doesn't require you to use a lot of them, so many people haven't even experienced what makes this game so great in the first place.

Thankfully there are many great romhacks that do require you to make extensive use of the platforming options, but at this point it's too little, too late.

>people say galazy is good

lol

BEP BEP MMMM BEP MMM BEP

I thought this was the regular instructions until I saw shit like parallel universes.

They really should hunt down these retards and cull them or something before they bring more of this retarded shit into the world.

>mainly because for a Mario game there doesn't seem to be a lot of platforming.
You're thinking of Galaxy

Nevermind, I'm about 70% sure this is supposed to be humour.

Just stop posting, you're literally making yourself look more retard the more you post.

Yet another thread where Sup Forums is scared or unable to actually discuss level design.

Yes, OP, it is you.

I fucking hate Nintendo, but even I understand that this is one of the greatest platformers of all time. Take your false flagging and bait elsewhere

>because of FLUDDs controls
why the fuck did you added that dumbass?
FLUDD made platforming trivial since you can just fix your position from a bad jump
thats why people think the controls aren't that good

Honestly, I mostly miss the slide. Sliding around everywhere was awesome.

I wasn't a big fan of it, but when it comes to Mario, I prefer the RPGs.

ayy yo like, how you gettin that front page status with such shitty b8?

Galaxy has more shallow gameplay but some people appreciate the more tight level design and amazing presentation more.
Then there's 3DW that has absolutely nothing going for it, aside from the shitty multiplayer.

So according to you..
>all you do SM64 is swimming
Or
>SM64 has swimming in it, so it isn't a platformer

Do you know how retarded you sound?

>Dead Space is a Survival/Action Horror
>Wait there's some puzzles, so it isn't a Survival/Action Horror game anymore

>Rayman is a platformer game
>but wait you swim and fly in the game so it isn't a a platforming game anymore

4/10 made me reply

Yes and they were always the worse levels. In Super Mario 64 because each level require you to spend so much time in them to get all 8 stars you have to spend a ridiculous amount of time on such shitty levels.

>and it's just not good, even for it's time
Play literally any other 3D game at the time and say that.

galaxy's controls weren't as fluid as 64's but you could still do some interesting creative stuff with mario's core abilities and gravity mechanics

in 3d world movement options were so nerfed you might as well beat the game by only doing normal jumps

>faggot

You sure got him good

Jag nig, he sho dee.

no, it's just you. And you got shit taste.
It was superb for its time, and still loads of fun today.

>hit due Mario 64 is a bad play former because there's no platforms
Do you think csgo is a bad fps because you aren't the first person in history to play it?

>So according to you..
>>all you do SM64 is swimming
>Or
>>SM64 has swimming in it, so it isn't a platformer
>Do you know how retarded you sound?
I never once said that you fucking retard. Obviously Mario 64 is a platformer, but a larger amount of the game is taken up by swimming than any Mario game before it. Typical Nintoddler.

>2/16 levels are water
>MORE THAN ANY OTHER MARIO GAME

Doubt

>but a larger amount of the game

Made me go 'heh'

like 30 minutes tops in a 4-5 hour game.

Have glitchless speedrunners calced the lowest possible number of jumps required to any% and 100% the game? I honestly think it's probably only around 20 jumps for any and 120 for 100%.

You're just saying it's bad without giving real reasons why. The game has the best platforming mechanics in any game ever and encourages exploration with an open level design and an expansive caste to explore and find secrets. There are obvious flaws with the camera and repetitive music in later levels but it's a unique type of game that isn't made anymore because of retards like you.

You don't make arguments you dense little shit, you just claim that "8 levels are bad" without explaining why.

The a press stuff is all tool assisted

Nobody gives a flying fuck about how many glitchless jumps it takes optimally for speedrunning, nobody is that insane.

And glitchless its going to be drastically higher than 120 jumps

abnormies will defend this
