Remember that Humble Bundle a while ago where people made games based off genre blends picked by backers?

That's what Battleborn felt like; they drew genres out of a hat and tried to fit them all together. It's a good lesson for future developers to look out for.

I'm actually playing Battleborn from this bundle and it's not as insanely bad as Anons made it out to be.

This is the problem with targeting minority demographics, and it's what Nintendo does as well. Gaming has nothing to do with the tumblr shit that Gearbox deals with, so why do they mingle with it? What would actually make Gearbox interesting? BL is shallow and repetitive, but they went further and made it a fucking MMO grind. Unfortunately, it's "that shitty, instanced MMO without decent combat", if only, now, because there have already been 3 games of it.. not to mention that the whole experience is leveling, which is an archaic design anyway -- especially for MMOs. It's why they fail so often, because putting 60hrs. into playing 1/5th of what a class should be isn't interesting, and there are always multiple.

So, they implement all these archaic designs while trying to be at the forefront of the industry. It obviously doesn't function that way. There's not an obvious example of a game that gets a pass for bullshit because of its decent gameplay, but I'm giving that to Mafia III because, even if the protag isn't forced, if it were it still seems interesting and vidya fun.

Anyone with half a brain could tell you there were so many mistakes made in the development and marketing of the game.
