Alright Sup Forums I've got a question regarding Venom Snake and Volgin in TPP
How could Volgin not be able to tell the difference between Venom and Big Boss? The Boss AI almost could, why would a supernatural being be drawn to a totally separate lifeforce other than the one he sought to exact revenge upon?
Snake was in the hospital with Medic, causing the first reaction.
Everything beyond that is mostly young Psycho Mantis not being able to tell the difference, and Volgin just going berserk on anything even nearby regardless of who it was. Blind rage.
Christian Torres
Quiet was also after the meme, she never could tell the difference and was fooled and left to die alone, unlike the body of Volgin who even Venom Snake brought back to MB even though the body was totally useless.
Connor Reyes
You're telling me
That a psychic
Couldn't tell the difference
Thomas Jackson
An 8 year old psychic? Yeah probably not, especially when the nigga's been so brainwashed to think he IS Snake and looks like him too.
Brody Perry
Shit writing is how
Joshua Torres
because the game is a mess
Hunter Russell
because retarded shit writing thats why
Wyatt Morgan
Was Psycho Mantis ever NOT psychic?
Adam Flores
he did once he got close
Colton Young
he can read minds not fucking tell the future holy shit
If Venom thinks he's BB there's literally no way Mentis would be able to tell the difference
Connor Rodriguez
True
Connor Ward
If his power was strong enough, he could possibly read the suppressed memories of him being the medic. Being that young and at the times they encountered eachother it's not likely.
Even then by the time Chapter 3 is supposed to have started, Big Medic remembers who he is and just keeps playing the charade. He should be able to figure out "Wait a fuck, that's not Snake".
Owen Garcia
obviously he couldn't
Even if Mentis figured it out it's not like it mattered at any point considering he was never actually working for skullface.
William Hill
Volgin could tell the difference, he finds out when Big Medic finds him at the outpost.
Hunter Roberts
So uhh. Stef made it to Skull Face.
Alexander Perez
He literally did. Did you even finish the game? In their last encounter Volgin looks straight in Venom's eyes and realizes this is not the man he's been hunting for revenge.
Brody Turner
This. It's the reason Volgin disappears after that scene. He's being kept alive only out of thoughts for revenge on Big Boss - and then realised it's not the same guy.
Lincoln Price
>Did [person bitching about MGSV] even finish the game?
Usually not
Kayden Williams
How? Also what about the scene in which he's literally one meter away from Venom and looks into his eyes?
Angel Johnson
>looks straight in Venom's eyes
He did the same in Voices.
Colton Martinez
Are you implying that Volgin on his own can see a difference between Venom and Big Boss and Psycho Mantis, kid who literally reads people's minds can't?
And in the Skull Face mission.
William Fisher
Why the fuck is Psycho Mantis even there, what are his intentions?
Jacob Taylor
Why don't you ever bring down cypher?
Zachary King
Psycho Mantis never met Big Boss. Venom might as well be real to him.
Christopher Perez
>what are his intentions
to shota it up with liquid
Parker Russell
Skullface got zero before you could, which in turn made zero do the whole Venom Snake thing so they could fight XOF and The Patriots
XOF was Venom's goal, while the Patriots were Big Boss' concerns, but not until much later.
Christopher Murphy
Venom is literally drugged to think he's Big Boss. If he himself can't tell the difference, why would some little cunt be able to?
Gabriel Murphy
>Was Psycho Mantis ever NOT psychic?
MGSV describes him as being ridiculously powerful but unable to control his powers.
He's extremely sensitive towards strong emotions, sucking them up like a sponge, after that he becomes like a conduit for people's feelings. Hence the Man on Fire, flying whale etc etc.
Sebastian Wright
Because some little cunt can access all his memories and control shit with its mind.
Jordan Torres
Doesn't psycho mantis tell solid snake his future after he beats him?
Julian Miller
Because Mantis used him as a puppet up until Big Medic found him in the outpost.
Then, in that moment, Volgin returned to his original self and realized Big Medic wasn't the guy that killed him.
Yes, it's stupid as fuck but there's your explanation.
Jonathan Reed
Not yet he can't.
Shota Mantis doesn't have the full powers as full grown Mantis.
John Allen
What was skull face's problem anyway? Why he have to ruin everything for big boss?
Hunter Ward
I suppose a man reanimated by shota mantis is less likely to see a difference between Big Boss than shot mantis, especially because the last time he saw him was during operation Snake Eater.
Nicholas Jackson
Part of Venom saving the world from parasites and destroying XOF was making sure Quiet would kill herself.
Joshua Martinez
Honestly, Skull Face's motivations are convoluted as fuck and make no sense no matter what way you look at it.
He's just a poorly written antagonist.
Robert Russell
>Venom's eyes >Eyes Just pulling your leg user.
Threads like these just go to show how much details and subtext completely went over peoples heads when it comes to the story.
C'mon user... There's even tapes about this that go into great detail. Pay some attention.
Luis Carter
>corpse reanimated by a psychic kid realizes that Venom isn't Big Boss after their third meeting >somehow psychic kid doesn't
Nicholas Hill
this
Bentley Adams
Why does Mantis care if he's Big Boss or not?
Joseph Mitchell
>Venom has the same memories >Acts the same, talks the same, walks the same >Mantis never met BB
Nolan Thomas
Never really explained, he seems to hate zero for something related to his past, maybe having to do with "i was raised in a small village" shit, and probably hates Snake because he took all the glory for Snek Eater
Honestly Skull face was just a retard, who had a comically laughable evil plan that would also fuck his shit up because he targeted everyone who spoke English
Literally Saturday morning cartoon levels of bad villain.
James Fisher
Isn't he influenced by Volgin's emotions?
And Volgin met BB when he was a green faggot who couldn't do shit. It's been over 15 years since MGS3 when he meets him and somehow it only takes a look in the eyes.
Mason Nelson
Fuck you Kojima. You ruined your own franchise. I literally cried about how shit the game was after beating it and ripped the MGSV TPP posters off my wall in a rage.
Adam Morgan
>Big medic
Makes me laugh every time.
Jacob Long
I miss MGS4.
Jack Foster
>somehow it only takes a look in the eyes Except it takes several encounters and sensual gazes into Venom's eye for Volgin to realize it ain't BB. And BB was the man who took Volgin down. You wouldn't forget the man that brought you to your knees 15 years ago.
Cooper Bell
>Kaz is an asshole for most of the game >Ocelot is barely in it >Paz is a dream >Huey is a cuck >Skullface was an absolute retard >Quiet was nothing but eye candy >Liquid was a brat >Big Boss was a complete pussy
Is Venom the best character in TPP?
Christopher Carter
>Games boring because you have to tranq and fulton everything and everyone! >It's the optimal -and only- way to play! Every thread. It's unbelievable how few people actually understand the finer workings of mother base.
Kayden Lopez
Honestly I wouldn't be able to differentiate between a perfect body double who can fool fucking Kazuhira and Ocelot.
Samuel Williams
Why does Kojima have a literal ghost in PP but he still tries to explain the cobra unit with parasites and the supernatural shit in previous Metal Gear with nano machines. It strikes me as a writer who doesn't know what kinda feel he wants his universe to take.
Landon Bailey
paz isnt really a ghost so much as she is a hallucination brought on by the shrapnel horn
Elijah Morris
nice alluding to Quiet through pictures, asshole.
Bentley Martin
What finer workings?
All you can do at MB is beat up your men and shoot targets, whoop dee fucking doo.
Aaron Brooks
Venom is the best character in the series. Most tragic, and yet still manages to overcome the drama and emotional bullshit and stand tall, proud of what he did. Solid was always MUH FREEDOM, Raiden was just the little bitch boy, even to the end, and Naked was just a noob who got carried, and STILL managed to be a bitch about it.
Jose Gray
I think he's talking about Volgin, user.
Camden Jenkins
Skulleface did ok actually, except he became overly reliant on psycho mantis. He actually made some gains on Venom with the vocal chord virus unlike someone like Volgin who only lost little by little over the course of the game.
Noah Rodriguez
Was The sorrow was explained with nanomachines?
He literally tells big boss things he shouldn't have ways of knowing. What else could it be?
Jace Reyes
And the context included with the picture.
Chase Hernandez
Naw Solid Snake is the best. Up yours gay boy!
Anthony Cruz
Volgin just wanted revenge against someone. That emotion went into mantis's head. He sees a person who looks exactly like the person volgin wants revenge against. Mantis doesn't just read peoples minds, he has his ego suppressed by volgin and later skull face. He can't.
Asher Bennett
Skull Face was the most successful villain in the entire series
>BTFO BB and forced him into hiding while Venom took his place >Turned Zero into a vegetable >Took over Cipher and pretty much was unstoppable until DD entered the scene.
Hudson Robinson
I wouldn't put my money on the horn, that seems like it would affect Venom in more severe ways than just hallucinations, having something stuck in your brain can make you lose control of your senses and body, which is way more severe.
If anything, paz was probably the result of hypnotherapy and the colliding identities inside venom, since he was an MSF soldier and probably hanged out with paz before.
Venom went through a lot of shit man, its understandable that he didn't make it through without any psychological problems
Angel Watson
Open up the iDroid and take a look, Boss.
Jace Edwards
It's a shame his plan was G.I. Joe levels of retarded
>Kill everyone that speaks english >Oh shit wait me and all my men speak english >Oh fuck the virus is mutating because of radioactive isotopes and killing indiscriminately >Oh hell this could end up killing everyone in the world
He got a lot done, sure, but why anyone would ever work for him is beyond me, im sure that somewhere in those grunts' contracts there is a line stating they will eventually die to parasites.
Robert Rivera
He was obviously in love with Paz still.
All the blondes were pretty much his gfs
Kevin Foster
and bfs*
Robert Phillips
Venom is a non-character. It's his entire shtick. You are Venom, user. I will forever hate Kojima for this
Dylan Bell
BIG BOSS is the guy in the cutscenes.
Brody Evans
YOU are BB meme aside, i like venom because of the way he acted, made me really believe he was the true Big Boss while i played Thing is, i can't think of one moment in which Venom did something that didn't sit well with me, he spared people, got revenge and managed diamond dogs like a true leader would, even if he was a fake, i ended up liking him more that Big Boss after i saw the Truth ending it's a shame that a character with no character in him is the most interesting one in the game
Carter Young
Venom is a new leader and with his new reign he chose to spare one person, care about them, and kill one person.
both God and Monster
Huey was spared and Quiet was let go to kill herself even though she was probably the nicest one to him next to Kaz and Ocelot.
Parker Lee
Venom treated Huey like a god but Huey saw him as a monster. Venom treated Quiet like shit but Quiet saw him as a god. It's probably better than most people treated her.
Carson Cooper
What kind of terrain are the mgs3 fatigues you can get in 5 good for?
Matthew Walker
The camo is good for making quiet love you even though venom doesn't care about her.
Evan James
This is such bullshit. Venom has character. Kojima wanted to do less with words and let the facial TECHNOLOGY do the magic. youtube.com/watch?v=sj_UBSeduHQ (from 0:30 onwards)
He succeeded for the most part imo. Venom is just the silent, strong middle aged man. He speaks when he must and when he does, it fucking matters. He says his piece and there's not much fluff in comparison too older MGS games ("Metal Gear?!" and all that goofy stuff). He shows character in plenty of cinematics and tapes. Kiefer put down a great performance too, while we are at it. There was emotion and weight to Venom's words.
The whole "you are big boss too, user" is just Kojima's way of thanking the fans. Why you'd get upset over a nod towards the fans is beyond me. The fact that you can edit his face is due to the online portion of the game mostly. And I guess he'd thought it'd be neat for everyone to have his own version of medic, it's not because you'd self insert. There's really no reason too, because Venom is still very much his own character.
Zachary Long
Are you tired of this forced meme yet?
Gabriel Rivera
nice delusion you sperg
Asher Cook
His eyes were on fire? Duh
Evan Evans
Why even fucking include Volgin. He was in the game for like 15 minutes, and it wasn't even a fight. He gets fucking extinguished IN A CUTSCENE
Joshua Green
Venom is a player avatar that exists to give the player "Big Boss" in a game that otherwise doesn't give a shit about narrative. Aside from being more sensitive than Big Boss, there's not a whole lot to him. He even ends up playing second fiddle to Big Boss anyway, even after learning the truth about his identity. He's barely a character at all.
Robert Roberts
Yeah, that's it. Give us absolutely no arguments to strengthen your point. Just keep parroting contrarian shit Sup Forums spews so you fit in. Throw some insults in too while you are at it. Fuck thinking for yourself and actually paying attention while playing a franchise you supposedly love. Sup Forums will tell you what to think of the game after all.
I bet you ran around tranqing and fultoning every soldier you came across too because that's how the game should be played, right? You unimaginative fuck.
Robert Phillips
Just like how Kaz spends the whole game grasping at straws, trying to find someone to call his enemy, to link events to Cypher, Volgin saw Venom as the target for his rage. They are overcome with anger and desire for revenge that they would do anything to make themselves feel fulfilled.
For everything that goes wrong in Mother Base, Kaz blames Quiet, then he blames the children, then he blames Huey, etc.
This is why there is no "epic" boss fight with Skull Face at the end, because the point is that no matter what you do or how many people you kill, you will never feel like it's enough. Kojima managed to make the player feel this too, since everyone went mad complaining that there isn't enough content and that they're hiding something. He made the community want to find so much wrong with the game, because he learned that by nature the fans would never stop wanting more MGS.
Volgin being in MGS was silly but it does resonate with many themes in the game.
Aiden Edwards
Who are you quoting? No one said anything about those things.
Alexander Thomas
nice butthurt you sperg
Nicholas Thompson
>Why you'd get upset over a nod towards the fans is beyond me. It's contrived and presented in a hackneyed way. In thematic terms there's some bits about identity tossed in, and the implications of Venom willingly giving up his identity in favor of being Big Boss Lite is a little harrowing, but I wouldn't say any of it is particularly thoughtful. >it's not because you'd self insert Pretty sure it was outright stated that Venom's quiet demeanor was deliberately done in part to complement the game's increased emphasis on player agency. Though that seems fairly obvious from the game itself either way. You're really stretching on the "mostly due to the online portion" thing since the created profile even surfaces as the identity Big Boss takes on while doing his scheming. It's also the face that appears in the mirror for Venom. Meaning it's a fairly important part of that story element.
Asher Rogers
>It's contrived and presented in a hackneyed way Agree to disagree it is. I thought it was a nice touch.
>Pretty sure it was outright stated that Venom's quiet demeanor was deliberately done in part to complement the game's increased emphasis on player agency. Going to need some serious citation on this because I highly doubt it.
>Though that seems fairly obvious from the game itself either way Why would it? Venom has a (strong) opinion on every theme in the game. Whether it's shown in cinematics or tapes, it's always there. It isn't left to the player. The player just are given various choices.
>Meaning it's a fairly important part of that story element. It's really minor. They could have put any face and profile up there but they didn't because of the tie in with the online. Because every player makes their own mother base. They get to customize their buddies the way they want, make a logo, design loadouts and customize their own medic so it's not Venom vs Venom in FOB battles.
Lucas Cruz
>How could Volgin not be able to tell the difference between Venom and Big Boss
He did
That's the entire fucking reason he didn't kill Venom
Ryan Jones
Because Skullface is completely aware of it and Mantis works under him?
Christian Taylor
>then he blames Huey
Get back in the fucking boat, Huey
Cameron Cox
>tfw no nuclear in MGS V still hurts
Eli Baker
>HE'S RESPONSIBLE..... FOR ALL OF THIS! THINK OF ALL THE MEN!
