Definitely. The Pip-boy functionality tied to the environment sounded sweet along with the rival party that would complete quests in other towns if you took too long.

woulda sold less. much less

Why would you bring up sales? Are you in charge of the Fallout IP and make money based off of sales?

Go away, Todd

>The Pip-boy functionality tied to the environment
>rival party that would complete quests in other towns if you took too long
What the fuck? Was that really going to be a thing? This is the first I've heard of it.

...

>JMR: When you worked on Van Buren, what aspect of it did you like the most?

>MCA: I liked the idea that the interface was kind of like a mini-dungeon you could explore. The idea when Van Buren was... your Pip-Boy actually didn't start out with all its functionality. Like you had some basic programs, so it acted like a normal interface, but the more you did certain things in the environment, like if you discovered, like, how to set off a fire alarms or you set a fire in a building and the fire alarms went off, suddenly a new functionality of your Pip-Boy, ”Here, let me find all the emergency exits for you!” And then suddenly all of those would be lit up on the map. And you're like, “Oh, wait a minute, I can use this as like a tracking mechanism to figure out where all the exits are.” And you could do that for things like fire suppression system, things like... like where the power sources are in buildings. You could use it to do autopsies on robots and steal their programs, and suddenly your Pip-Boy sort of became like this arsenal that you could use to sort of like navigate the environment. That was cool. And the other thing was... the adversaries in Van Buren could also use your Pip-Boy against you to both cloak their location and track where were you going, so you could actually end up in like a Pip-Boy war, where you're trying to track down each other using a Pip-Boy. So we tried to do a little bit of that in Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money, where the Botherhood of Steel guy was trying to use the... which basically could have taken over your Pip-Boy, but that was axed, and they were like, “No, you can't do that”, so like, “Oh, shit.”

FUCKKKKKK
THAT SOUNDS SO GODDAMN COOL
AND WE'LL NEVER GET TO PLAY IT EITHER

>JMR: Van Buren was supposed to have another party in the world that would wander around and complete quests. Can you tell us how that was supposed to work?

>MCA: Yeah, basically what they would do is they would go to alternate locations, and they had their own agenda path they were trying to follow to accomplish certain objectives. And the trick with them is each one of the rival party members actually had a separate agenda, which they didn't fully share with everybody else in the party. So sometimes they would do certain things at locations where it worked with one of their agendas but nobody else's, but the other guys wouldn't know about it, so you could use that against them, where you're like, ”Well you know that guy in that location left a note for us to follow you”, and they're like, “Oh my god! Are you a traitor?” [shooting sounds] But... it was basically a very heavily scripted NPC mechanic, where we were like, we're trying to increase reactivity and the sense the world was moving on. So, when the player characters would go to one location and do a bunch of stuff, they would be notified that something else was happening in the location and those guys would take care of the quests in an area or conquer that location, and you were like, “Oh, shit”, like, “We gotta move.” But it was all intended to give the sense that something else was happening in the world without waiting for you.

>and they were like, “No, you can't do that”, so like, “Oh, shit.”
I swear to god there's no way i can hate bethesda more than now

with these graphics and all ? not really thanks I'll stick with F3.

Worst of all, is that the game was 90% completed and Interplay forced them to scrap it, and then sold out to Jewthesda

I'm still fucking mad about it

I think you went to the wrong website, buddy, here let me redirect you:

God fucking damn it. The fact that we'll never get to play this AND the fact that we got the shitshow that was FO3 instead hurts so much.

>90% completed
Please say you aren't serious. I knew it was a good way's along, but was it actually at around 90% complete?

90% or even more than that, I remember reading an interview where they said the game was basically complete, just needed like one more month or so of polish and bugfixing and it would be ready for release. It's really fucking sad.

And the only playable Van Buren is an Alpha Demo

what ? fuck off dude.
i don't want to play your shitty boring game, not my fault if i have a job.

You couldn't be more underage

>one more month or so of polish and bugfixing and it would be ready for release
Jesus Christ, I never knew this. We could've got an incredible fucking RPG that might've even surpassed the first two fallouts. But instead we got Todd's Fallout Themepark.
Do you think those files still exist somewhere? Where would they have even gone?

Any upcoming turn-based RPGs like the first Fallouts and Underrail?

No idea, maybe interplay or bethesda has them. I'm going to dig around for more info

Not him but on servers and harddrives auctioned off after they shut down

Not off the top of my head, but that Fallout 1.5 Resurrection mod is really good so far.

No

Divinity Original Sin 2 is out around december, if you haven't played the first I'd highly recommend it.

And by that I mean fucking play it now, it's great.

FUCK OFF DIPSHIT DON'T EVER CALL ME AGAIN LIKE THAT

underage get out

>on servers and harddrives auctioned off after they shut down
Oh. Who the hell won them? Did they just hoard the files?
Did Todd win the auction and smash the hard drives to pieces?

dude i swear to god fuck off or i'm going to rekt you nigga

go ahead

underage

Fuck no.

Most everyone immediately said Van Buren looked like shit back when the screenshots first dropped. The Fallout 3 we got isn't any better but I'm not one to pick between two turds.

Yeah, loved the first one, I've already backed the second one. Still, beyond that and Torment: Tides of Numenera (which is fucking amazing based on the first Act), I can't think of any upcoming ones.

I guess there's Tyranny but that's RTwP, which I can't stand.

i swear you don't even know me you think you can say shit like that behind a monitor ? i'll bash your little head of a nigga and shhave it
come to the mcdo at Schulenburg i'll fuck you up ok ?

k

I'm new to the genre myself so I've got a huge backlog of stuff to play which is good, but you're right about newer games there's literally fuck all.

Such a shame for such a good genre too.

You could try Pillars of Eternity, people bitch about it but it seriously doesn't deserve the hate, it isn't amazing but I still loved every minute.

Also whats rwtp?

>looked like shit
>screenshots
So does that have anything to do with the final product, or just what the alpha screenshots looked like? Because Fallout 3 looked pretty terrible and was also a poor RPG.

There's a shitload of new CRPGs compared to 6 years ago. They're just not all Fallout clones.

Since this is a Fallout thread, I hope there are some New Vegas fags here

I want to replay F:NV again, never actually finished it. What are some essential mods? I don't want to bother too much with mods since it's the gamebryo engine, but I want a slightly better and different experience than last time.

I'm not much a New Vegas fag here, but I DO have an essential mod list for when I finish FO2. Here it is.
Jsawyer
MTUI
NVSE
NVSR
NVAC
YUP
FNV4GB

better ask here

Thanks

Obviously I can't judge the final product since it's not here, I can only say that my initial reaction to the picture in the OP as a teen was: "Wow they should have never gone 3D, this is actually a step down from Tactics". It just looked like such garbage compared to prior games that I always had very little faith in F3. There are even let's plays on YouTube of Van Buren, and frankly, it looks as much as a mess as I predicted, Interplay was already well known for being shit and greedy so honestly it was anyone's guess that F3 was DOA.

>let's plays on YouTube of Van Buren
That was the alpha demo, user.

That's just an Alpha tech demo, bud

you got Wasteland - thats pretty much what Vanburren f3 would've been

retard

There's this Russian, obscure Fallout 1-inspired cRPG called Krai Mira, and it might be cool. Think it's still in the alpha stage, but they already have some gameplay out.

>let's plays on YouTube of Van Buren

bite me fag, the teaser pic from the OP looked like shit from the very beginning and they should have never made the transition

Nevermind, it's already out and on Steam.

Better than fallout 3 but without 3 new vegas would never exist.

>Based on absolutely one fucking screenshot, I KNOW a non-existent game would have been amazing.

That sounds sweet as fuck. Why has no other game done something like this?

It would've sold more than Brotherhood of Steel. The only reason Fallout 3 sold well at all is because it's tied to the Bethesda name.

This right here is bait but I'm replying anyway

Possibly better than 3, probably not better than NV

checked

That's a fingerprint scanner, not a button.

holy shit fuck Bethesda and Interplay.

God, I hope someday Bethesda's shitstained hands are forced to give Fallout to a developer that actually gives a shit.

Without a doubt. Bethesda can't write worth shit.
checked

sweet

NV is overrated. It's on a dogshit engine for FPS games but it still feels like an FPS with RPG mechanics tacked on.

there are gameplay videos on youtube

you can even download the alpha

>What the fuck? Was that really going to be a thing?

What kind of thing? Thing?

Because they can't come up with those ideas, or they think that their demographic wouldn't like it
But the second a game does that and it is successful they jump on the bandwagon

Also Check those numbers

>mfw Falout 3 is considered one of the greatest rpgs of all time by many
I have no face to convey this feeling

cause its hard to do right and the games are designed for the player, absolutely centered around the player and some stuff happening in the world on it's own regardless of player could feel bad/random/unfair
like, oops you failed the quest cause some other fucker messed with something out of your control - no one would enjoy it

Bethesda knows how to cater to plebs.

who cares about graphics you stupid underage nigger

RTwP is Real Time with Pause. It's the combat system Pillars of Eternity uses. I backed PoEt, I did like it for the most part but the combat was so unpleasant that it really affected my experience with the game.

There's actually a nice amount of turn-based games released in the last few years, I've played
>Shadowrun: Returns
6/10
>Shadowrun: Dragonfall
9/10
>Shadowrun: Hong Kong
8/10
>Divinity: Original Sin
9/10
>Wasteland 2: Director's Cut
8/10
>UnderRail
9/10
>Age of Decadence
can't really rate it, the draw of the game is the huge replayability and reactivity, only did a negotiator non-murderer playthrough

Oblivion with guns tied to another rather popular ip and hyped to the sky was guaranteed to sell.

>Shadowrun
but its more a tactical combat than rpg

bethesda didn't develop dead money brah.

It would've been more interesting, at least
>going into freaking space to disable an orbital bombardment platform

Story wise 100% sure (also better then NV)
Gameplay and immersion wise dunno... the game was never finished so we can only guess.
I really want to know how were giant wolves supposed to look like
cover-reloaded.weebly.com/uploads/1/1/8/0/11809722/2423346.jpg

>Bethesda knows how to cater to plebs.
I always thought people were exaggerating with this until FO4 came out.
Jesus fucking Christ, what a mess of a game that was.

The game had tons of good ideas (except voice protagonist dad in RPG) all mushed into one mediocre game...
After 10 dlc it it going to be GOTY 2017 or 2018 depends when the last dlc comes out

>After 10 dlc it it going to be GOTY 2017 or 2018 depends when the last dlc comes out

... they only needed like 7 more.

user... Nuka World is last DLC.
Hope you enjoyed Automatron, 3 Workshop DLCs, Far Harbor and Nuka World.

I thought they would at least do a third wave of DLCs and keep working on 4 until November.

More like a fucking million.
The game needs a complete re-overhaul in order to be good, something it will never get. Skills and any complexity the game once had are completely fucking gone.
The classic Fallout games give you enough perks to get by and nothing more, Fallout 3 and 4 are giving out perks like they're about to go out of business. I mean, everything in 4 is based around perks for no good reason.

The only thing that was remotely enjoyable from those was far harbor... also probably the only one that took them more then a month to make and with more content then browser game.

...

Also fallout 3- 5 DLCs
Fallout NV- 4 DLCs
Fallout 4- 1 DLC (maybe 2 with nuka world)

Was there season pass for FO4 ? Because it would be comparable with armed robbery.

Yup, £30 season pass. Truly fucking horrifying.
I'd argue F3 had 3 (worthwhile) DLCs, NV had 3 and F4 gets 1 like you said, can't believe how thinly-veiled the fact that the wasteland workshop shit was not even Nexus-tier in terms of scale, value or depth.
Every day that passes makes me hate F4 more and more.

it was £25 but they bumped it up to 40

Yes, there was.
Also:
Automatron - March
Wasteland Workshop - April
Far Harbor - May
Contraptions Workshop - June
Vault-Tec Workshop - July
Nuka World - August
I thought they would do DLCs for September, October and November, until 1 year passes since Fallout 4 was released. They released last DLC for Skyrim over a year since Skyrim's release(Skyrim released November 2011, last DLC - December 2012), so I thought they would support F4 for one year too, but nope, 9 months after release they will abandon it.

*They released last DLC for Skyrim over a year AFTER Skyrim's release

dwarf fortress adventure mode has a similar mechanic of the world moving on around you. it simulates an entire world and all the civilizations and people in it interacting with each other, wars, all that shit. if you find a ruined village it was probably alive at some point until some army or monster came and fucked it.

OBJECTIVELY NO.

FO3 wouldn't be able to look THIS good in 4k res @60FPS.

>people played FO3 on consoles
>laughingsmuglolis.jpg

What the fuck is wrong with Bethesda? Even FO3 had some decent DLCs.

Jesus christ.

Looks like garbage

Think about it this way.

You just wanna do all the quests but the game won't let you. Or you like to take your time and the game just turns off quests to you for that.

Too much potential for aggravation for too little return in "oh that's neat"

they had this in Fallout 2. Your Pip-Boy just had the basic functions. You had to go loot or buy a Geiger Counter to tell how much rads was in an area. You had to go loot or buy a Motion-Sensor Device so that targets would appear on your map.

Then Fallout 3 happened with a brand-new Pip-Boy that just gave you all these things.

Also what the fuck is up with the Fallout 4 intro? Didn't they know the Pip-Boy wasn't always something worn on your wrist? That was only in the most current editions. The rest of them are like PDAs.

>The rest of them are like PDAs.

I assume they decided to redesign and stick with the redesign, partially because it's become iconic.

>Bethesda
>Caring about lore that they didn't make

>Playing Fallout 3 stand alone instead of playing TTW
Explain yourself

Please stop reminding me that the new Pip-Boy is iconic to most people now.
It hurts.

I only learned about TTW after about 1/4 to 1/2 through my play through. Actually, I don't even think it was out yet when I first started playing. I also heard it has a bunch of compatibility issues and gets extra picky about mods...
