I had this game when I was a kid until my batteries melted inside my Gameboy. I've beaten on an emulator recently, it's still pretty good.

>black and white
there's your answer

the graphics are great but it's limited by the platform, meaning it has huge sprites at the expense of being really slow

because its shit. only value is a few sound tracks and nostalgia

objectively the best Mario in existance

My favorite Mario soundtrack hands down

It's much, much, better than Mario Land 1 which I consider absolute shit but I still don't think it's that special. I enjoyed Wario Land 1 more

continuing I also like the game a lot but it's pretty straight forward and safe (aside from the weird 'unmario' aesthetics), doesn't really innovate like smb3 and smw

the bunny ears are a lamer cape / leaf and also for some reason take away the spin jump

t. millenial

It really isn't, it just isn't talked about as much

miyamoto didn't take part in it and it introduced wario, which still triggers him today

It's not, you big dope.

great locations but terrible level design, also believe it or not most people hate super mario land for no fucking reason.
golden six coins is pretty much the black sheep of the mario series.

i love it though.

When's the last time you played it? I recently revisited it, and holy shit, it's SO fucking easy. Like "made for babies" easy. It really sucks a lot of the enjoyment. The game has an appealing aesthetic but it's just not that fun to play.

Played it a few months ago on my 3ds

Some of the bosses like the moon one are pretty challenging

It has a lot more content and is much more flashy than SML, but the bigger sprite made it less deep than the physics of the first game which was a true portable Super Mario Bros. game; which is a pretty big deal. Imagine if it didn't exist.

The world doesn't need SML2. It was the first time a Nintendo sequel took a step back. Basically unheard of at the time.

PROVE ME WRONG

it's limited by the platform, but not because the sprites are big.
The issue is the terrible ghosting on old LCD screens.
If things moved fast, everything would be a blurry mess and stupid hard to follow.

it's not even the best Game Boy Mario game. Donkey Kong '94 is so much better

I like the bunny ears. I like the simplicity of them.

Is was the most non-Mario thing that Nintendo had put out

and that was a good thing

Donkey Kong on the Gameboy is seriously one of the most underrated games ever. It's fucking amazing.

>It was the first time a Nintendo sequel took a step back. Basically unheard of at the time.

I'd argue that's Return of Samus.

I fail to see how this game was even remotely non-Mario. You sure you're not thinking of Mario 2 on the nes, user?

assumed it was the size of the graphics since many games with large sprites move at a slower pace (mario land 1 was faster for example)

Favorite song in the entire game right here.

I recently started playing some of my old GB games and holy shit I thought their was something wrong with my GBA. I can't believe I used to put up with this shit.

iirc, Mario Land scrolls at pretty much the same speed. The difference is you're fucking tiny.

I must have filtered the thoughts of this out of my mind, since I don't remember any serious ghosting on anything besides my OG Brick Gameboy.

Fuck yeah

I have no idea why you would think this

I played the shit out of this and Metroid II as a kid.

I still have this game. I beat it once when I was a kid and thought it was hard as balls but not sure if it's actually hard or if I was just a shit at games kid.

No way this game was the only game where I cared about coins. Getting 999 to play the 50-up chance game was rad.

Also the dracula in macro zone. Was like the angel statue of Mario games

It was a quirky little game full of cat drugs.

best mario series. wario and daisy (da best) appeared in this series :D

I prefer the first one, it feels tighter and with the bullshit fluff like the overworld cut out.

I haven't heard that song since I was in elementary school.

Not made by EAD.
The same team went to make Wario Land.

Are you referring to Doki Doki or the hard version of SMB? Because even reskinned, it felt like a Mario game, and a proper sequel compared to SMB2JP, which was just an expansion pak.

>I recently revisited it, and holy shit, it's SO fucking easy. Like "made for babies" easy.
you just described every mario platformer ever.
