Is there a specific reason why Sup Forums hates this game?
Sure it's not a 10/10 like Vice City and San Andreas but it's easily 9/10

I'd say it's a 7/10
2/3 characters are bad and the last is boring; too few heists, removed a lot of cool shit from the older games like vigilante, downgrade from GTA4 in a lot of ways to make it run on last gen consoles, ignoring singleplayer to crank out incentives to spend money in multiplayer.
I'm sure there's a lot more people could list but that's all I can think of at the moment. I really hope the next title is better.
>Is there a specific reason why Sup Forums hates this game?
Admittedly, the cops are some of the weakest in the GTA series, and the three protagonists don't allow for nearly as much development of the story as prior GTAs.
Just think about the introductory missions to every prior GTA game in the 3D/HD universe, the way each context they were in were fleshed out was far greater than in GTA V were you can only get a little taste before moving onto the next setting.
Most complaints are nitpicky as fuck. Every GTA has had different combat, driving, etc. But because GTA V is the latest one and sequilitis is a meme even when it's simply a case of different directions (even when that direction is handled pretty damn well), it's different so it's worse.
But yeah, less development, awful cops, it's the latest game, therefore it's the worst.
It's still great, and online with friends is incredible.
Its a 8/10
Better than IV at least...but worse than red dead redemption
Except it isn't.
>schizophrenic plot
>no sense of progression
>lack of interiors
>no incentives to do most of the side content
>lots of wasted space
>pointless 3 protagonist gimmick
>linear heists
>mediocre mini-games
>cringeworthy humour
It's easily the worst game in the franchise.
>lack of interiors
>lots of wasted space
same shit in the last games
>mediocre mini-games
>cringeworthy humour
same shit in the last games, and your age finally catching up with you
Singleplayer is fun, multiplayer gets boring quickly and everything is behind a huge money wall, there's also not enough options in multiplayer.
>>lack of interiors
What? Pretty sure GTA V with online included objectively has the most interiors in a GTA game from the last decade and a half.
>GTA 5 is 3 years old
fuck
its filled with ugly people,., so every one is forgettable. inb4 trevor,, if. you like him you want to get urself check mentally
>multiplayer gets boring quickly and everything is behind a huge money wall, there's also not enough options in multiplayer.
if you have no friends
online with friends to coordinate with is like a treasure trove of content
I've only watched a friend play like 3 hours of this game on his stream.
I couldn't play this game because of Trevor.
That character's dialogue is true misery to have to sit through.
Shit's 100% embarrassing.
>You will never relive the joy of finding buildings in GTA IV you could go inside, not because of some minigame or mission attached, but because they just wanted to flesh out the city and make some interiors
>Vice City and San Andreas
>10/10
I don't but the fact that it is so expensive on steam is bullshit. It is old as fuck now and should be 20 dollars. I'm not playing the PS3 version anymore so I will just wait for the game to actually be a reasonable price on steam. I guess I could just pirate it too now that I think about it. Maybe I will later.
Oh I had friends, we still play it from time to time, but it's just not that exciting. Heists get old quickly, freeroam is limited, missions can only entertain you so much. Also I doubt it's been fixed, but I used to have an issue where I would randomly get disconnected from public lobbies.
How many buildings could you even go inside? I swear there were only a handful of them and most were really small and generic.
Don't forget insane loading times, and if you get kicked or removed somehow from a lobby the game goes back to loading the city all over again.
GTA5 is a fun but disappointing sequel. The story is mediocre, the humor downgraded, and the developers are milking every bit of money they can of it.
They won't reduce the price until GTA6 is released.
Also, shark cards. People give EA a lot of shit, but holy goddamn hell, Rockstar trumps them by a mile.
Don't hold your breath, they're gonna focus on gtao for awhile. Already confirmed. Even though it's a shitty part of the game.
It's not gonna be that price til the next game because any time there is a sale now on Steam, they jack the price up by adding dlc shit on it and you won't get the standalone game at a discount.
You got a while to wait.
I bought the game twice, once on PS3 and once on PC.
I have nearly 400 hours logged on Steam.
I spent $240 on cash cards.
My only complaint is the map.
What I found confusing as fuck and an indication of cut content was how they went into great detail in the first heist how people got better with experience but their cut remained the same, hinting that short term loss would lead to long term investment, only for there to be fuck all heists so it didn't even matter.
You are the very reason the game is still expensive as hell.
The 8th-gen version is actually a huge step up from the 7th-gen one and adds a shit ton of content.
Trevor was great, what are you talking about. I also liked Michael, even if he was pretty much a living Tony Soprano parody. Franklin was shit though, the blandest GTA character ever. Felt like he was just there so black players can self insert.
>>cringeworthy humour
let me guess, rightwing cuck?
No gta game is a 10
>$60 game
>400 hours logged
I like to get at least an hour played per dollar spent. I more than got my money's worth.
I personally liked Franklin and his down-to-earth, pragmatic attitude; the problem is that most of his past and the things that gave him depth as a character are in the side content or the hangouts, and not in the main story like they should. The real problems with GTA 5's plot lie in the facts that it is too short for 3 protagonists, it feels disjointed, the serious moments are rarely treated as such, and the villains weren't compelling.
It's been 60-70 bucks since its launch, which was released 3 fucking years ago.
Let that sink in.
I feel that Franklin would've been better received by most players if the game focused on him a bit more.
They literally had to give Franklin the assassination missions purely because there was no other reason for people to switch to him.
It did a lot of things better than GTA IV but some of the changes like the simplification of npc and cop AI was disappointing. Don't really care about the car damage model changing, I think it was mostly done so you could actually use a car for more than a few minutes.
>buying cash cards when hackers drop millions
>GTAV isnt the best gta game
stop this nostalgia bullshit, vice city and san andreas are dated as fuck, the missions are mostly dogshit too.
GTAV is a great game, and absolutely stunning on PC
>San Andreas
>Vice City
>10/10
lol
>and the villains weren't compelling
There were no real villains, which makes it the shittiest of any GTA.
San Andreas is still the absolute best. Best story, best characters, best missions. It has aged like milk but it's easily the best GTA.
Its the unmatched popularity of gta 5
Everyone owns the game and nearly everyone has fun
Sup Forums are just being hipsters as always
Can we get an underage b& here please?
> actually contains only 10% of PS2 Era GTA's content
But you can jerk yourself off by paying for online DLC. GTA online is a Joke.
They spread themselves too thin and tried to make three games in one. Make a nigger GTA, make a redneck GTA, make a modern GTA. But do not try to do all at once
So I finished RDR a few days ago, and it seems like they tried to reuse part of the plot in GTAV.
>character who tries to leave his dark past behind
>shady officials are blackmailing him into doing dangerous shit
>except GTA has characters that are impossible to take seriously
>finally the showdown arrives
>in RDR John Marston obviously can't resist these odds and protect his loved ones at the same time and dies
>in GTAV you get an option to just murder everyone with no consequences and everyone lives, and it's unclear why it wasn't possible to do that before
GTAV really dropped the ball with the plot, it had a multitude of other plot threads but they were chaotic, had very little thought put into them and none of them worked.
GTAV had an amazingly detailed world but the rest of the game is shit.
Is this bait? 240 on cash cards? When niggas are getting billions? Hell, I have everything important in the game, and only legit earned 2 mil. End your pathetic life, you are everything wrong with this game
>plot
This is a meme. People on Sup Forums only started to talk about plot in GTA games after IV came out and that's only because they retroactively went back to look at it.
Sup Forums hates it because it's popular.
basically yeah, it seems like they pulled stuff from RDR
RDR was so much better in terms of campaign and narrative but I did like the size of GTA V's map and i had fun goofing around with jets and shit.
I feel like San Andreas' story was good up to Las Venturas, then it lost steam for a while, and then picked up again when CJ was back in Los Santos. Also, CJ's personality seemed inconsistent at times with the actions he conducted during the story. GTA 4 faces this problem too, but the story acknowledges it as part of the story's climax.
I've also seen a few hood flicks so San Andreas' characters, though likeable, weren't that memorable for me, though Tenpenny is still a great villain.
Personally, I liked GTA IV the best because the story hit home with me many times and Liberty City felt like a second home to me. Though what San Andreas undoubtedly does best for me is making you feel like you were adequately rewarded for things you did during the story, and immersing you in early '90's LA culture.
Until they have character creation (in a mainline, not Online) GTA games will always be a 6/10 at most
The second most sold game of this month after 3 years of its initial release and probably the biggest cultural phenomenon in gaming this decade
>tfw I never made it back to Los Santos
>to this day I haven't been able to do the RC plane missions
Franklin felt like a discount CJ and obvious nostalgia pandering. I disliked the psychic animals and wanted system that constantly spawned cops ten feet away from you.
Overall I wouldn't call it a bad GTA, just not a very compelling one. I don't know if the series has just run its course or it was this game in particular but I got bored fairly quickly with it.
>CJ's personality seemed inconsistent at times with the actions he conducted during the story
Like becoming a rich gang leader and still taking shit from everyone around?
Your second point should refer to Pokémon GO, really.
>Until they have character creation
Why does this even matter? So you can play as a black tranny?
Why the fuck does every GTA game have shit gunplay?
They keep improving driving and all the technical aspects and set pieces, but shooting is always a mess.
Like WTF? Max Payne and RDR both had good gunplay...why can't GTA?
>lack of interiors
Doesn't it have more interiors than any other GTA game?
Despite its flaws, GTAV is well worth the $60 I payed. The multiplayer however is fucking garbage. There's some improvements here and there compared to IV but the negatives outweigh them.
Still, it's an enjoyable game to play in but I remember having a better overrall experience with GTAIV which I clearly remember being able to play multiplayer on day 1 of release with no issue.
Where the fuck did the time go
So I can play as whatever I want obviously.
It's not a 9/10, but it's not really bad. It is poorly managed though. I was thinking about it earlier, and a good way to sum it up is that GTA online is the best part of the game, and yet also the worst part.
It has all the content and online fuckery is pretty fun when it goes right, but it's also stolen so much work that could have made the single player better, and the extreme price of things online ruins all the fun. It was GOAT back when everyone had unlimited funds thanks to hackers, but of course they waited until they took away all of our money before giving us all the cool stuff.
You will immediately cease and not continue to access the site if you are under the age of 18.
Best game of the series so far. Sup Forums hates it because it's popular but not old enough. You retards would hate on San Andreas too if it was released today.
they were 10/10s at the time, but they haven't aged very well.
GTA V will never be a 10/10 though
Not that user, but I wouldn't really call Vice City or San Andreas 10/10 games, because they both have problems. They are still pretty good though.
.com
The three protagonist thing ruins the game. They're all bland with the exception of Michael....sort of. It was a stupid idea and the fact that characters change back into their default clothing after you swap just irks me to no end.
>The three protagonist thing ruins the game
this
>It was a stupid idea and the fact that characters change back into their default clothing after you swap just irks me to no end
holy fuck are you me?
This are always some of the things I mention, I don't think I've ever seen anyone else to mention the clothes thing though. It's so fucking annoying.
Kind of, and also the fact that he doesn't want to stand up for himself when he really should, especially against Sweet, grated me a bit.
Also, I never really understood why he was so scared of Catalina; sure, she's a crazy bitch and all, but he's actually done a lot worse by that point. It's meant to be funny, but it's more infuriating than anything.
Another small thing, some of the things CJ does for Toreno, like the Area 69 mission and the aircraft carrier mission, really take me out of immersion and make me wonder why Tenpenny, or frankly, anyone else, is such a threat to CJ, because he doesn't do any in-story preparation for those missions, so it feels like he could have always done those things. This point might be a bit dodgy, but those missions don't sit right with me.
There might be other gripes I have, but those are the ones I remember.
> Pokémon GO
Might aswell call Clash Of Clans a game then hu
>character creation
>reddit
What?
play saints row, GTA isn't about it and it isn't MMO like ONLINE kiddies love to think
If you want character creation, go play saints row. GTA stories wouldn't work with some fat black woman with clown makeup
>Saint's Row
No, I don't want that. I want a character creator with the depth of GTA Online, with good assets, and not have to deal with the Online portion of it.
Now that you mention it, that lays out a growing schism in GTA games stuttering from somewhat goofy and fun to grittier and more realistic. Gameplay wise, but story wise to an extent too.
San Andreas having such a heavy gradient between "I'm robbing casinos and stealing jetpacks and fucking harrier jets to use against the fucking secret government" and unable to shake off the writer's wishes to include the LA riots and police brutality and gang land culture (or whatever).
Then you get IV which includes a subplot of secret government involvement too, but a lot more subdued and strangely slipped in. A good plot device to get Nico to his targeted traitor and wrap that all up, but it kept it rooted.
I didn't play GTAV too much. There was an alien drug trip and a UFO I know, but no one seems to tout how goofy fun it was so I'm just assuming it wasn't.
> Game is about the criminal underworld
> Main Villains are mercenaries
I don't understand how anyone who isn't the casual audience likes this game.
Everything's just mediocre or shit.
I also just hated every single character.
>but you're supposed to hate them, that's the joke
It's not funny
How horribly optimized and coded the actual game is. Probably my only complaint.
Saints row has a more indepth character creation system than GTA.
It wasn't very fun, that's probably the issue. None of the goofiness was all that special.
I hated all the characters because none of them really had a good arc or characterization.
For a game that is bigger than it's predecessors, there is surprisingly little to do.
Not him, but I don't really understand why people like Vice City so much besides the atmosphere; sure, the radio was good, but I didn't really feel immersed in the city at all. Immersion is definitely subjective, so this is a moot point, but the game has aged poorly in so many other aspects as well, especially gunplay and movement, and the game in general is too easy; GTA 5 is harder.
That, and I didn't like the story, it felt even more of a movie than 5, the plot itself is noticeably run-off-the-mill, none of the characters felt like they had any depth, especially Tommy, which was a big disappointment; he literally was "quips: the character," the fact that the city was so small didn't lend well to pacing, you see everything less than halfway through the story, and the story didn't really feel like it was serious when it wanted to be, like when Tommy needed to save Lance.
Also, pretty much all the gameplay features Vice City introduced were improved upon and more fleshed out in later GTA's.
All these issues I had really made me fail to understand why it is considered the best GTA, but that's just my opinion.
A lot of it is nostalgia, Vice City hasn't aged very well, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.
It's not that there isn't a lot to do; if you look at the checklist for 100% completion,
ign.com
Why do people think San Andreas is a good game again?
You said the same things about San Andreas without the 3 protag thing
Tries to be funny when the comedy is lame as fuck, allows you to skip missions, tries to be relevant by constant references to millenials and whatever the facebook equivalent was called, muh wacky drug addict. Seriously, a missed opportunity. I just feel sorry for the people who were expecting quality from Rockstar after IV.
Consoletards hyped it too much and people thought it was worthy of the hype.
It's 7 or 8, if it didn't have the GTA name in it it wouldn't get 100/100 scores everywhere.
>can't easily join an existing lobby races etc with friends
>everything is worth millions and you get paid in peanuts
>shark cards
>more heists never ever
>insane loading times
>combat is super laggy
>kuruma
>$99999999 tdm parkour invites
>police
>THE FUCKING POLICE
FUCK DA POOLEES
>cops on you for doing anything
>get out of sight, takes forever for them to leave
>driving away and they suddenly teleport infront of you with no warning on map
>the "vision cone" is meaningless since they have 360 degree eagle eyes
what else am I missing?
Don't forget,
>police and NOOSE have pinpoint accuracy, even from a copter, and more fluid movement than what is possible on a console
>combined with the fact that armor is like paper, means that it is impossible to have a fun rampage, you have to camp or use invincibility in order to survive
>the police always, ALWAYS know where you are; if you trigger a wanted level anove ground and drive underground, the police won't go to where the wanted level was triggered, they'll go to where you are, but above ground
>the police can catch up to supercars and spin out buses and trucks
Any more I'm missing? Instead of making the police reasonabky tougher, GTA 5 just makes them bullshit to combat. It's one of the game's biggest missteps.
Because R* is capable of creating great singleplayer stories but instead just focuses on GTA online shovelware
Oh, I forgot one:
The areas where the police can go are horribly inconsistent; they can find you if you're on top of Mt. Chilliad, but if you hide in a specific corner in the construction site in Los Santos, the cops will drive into the site, investigate the area 5 feet away from you, and then leave.
>2/3
I only hated playing as tracer desu senpai. He was funny as fuck but his personal vehicle was shit and I hated it.
I rented it once on the PS3 and I really enjoyed the story and it one of the best detailed worlds in GTA. Something that was missing in GTA 4.
multiplayer doesn't bare talking about, boring unless you hack or know people who hack, so you arn't sat grinding money for things for literally days.
single mode is ok but boring characters except trevor and replaying all those missions is actually boring, trust me i've done it/seen it 3 times.
as for comparison its not nearly as fun as san andreas and they took out the best parts like the custom fighting moves, area 51, jetpack, airfield you own that isn't a pile of shit, many houses, I could go on for a while but I wont.
We literally had this same thread yesterday
Its not only the best gta but also the best r* game
This is a pretty good list.
>Plot
So bad it seems to have been thrown together in the final moments. It seems like Franklin was added last, probably because of diversity quotas, and rushed to have a place at the table for the plot and a 'fair' number of solo missions. As a result, the story between Michael and Trevor (Michael arguably being the main character of the plot) breaks up into minor side stories told throughout and lacks any meaningful resolution.
In terms of plot, every fault in the game centers around Franklin.
His entire character is a thing of contradiction, during cutscenes Franklin is pensive, reserved and portrayed as a voice of reason. During gameplay, his vocabulary drops to around 20 words, 18 of which are predictable curses and slang lacking any sensitivity or insight. Franklin has no motivation or goal, yet he becomes the arbiter of the entire plot without actually having any relevance to it.
Why would Franklin agree to kill the Michael, the man who gave Franklin a mansion and mountains of money, for a guy that gave him one job and never even paid for the service? Why would he agree to risk his life for the feds, if the feds have leverage or control? Why does Franklin even care about his ex-girlfriend, and why does he call her from a fucking strip club? Why does that girlfriend berate Franklin at the beginning for being a hoodlum running with Lamar, but later, after she's married someone else, accuses Franklin of being a bad friend, so go assault this gang compound with 30+ guys inside, it's what any real friend would do.
In terms of gameplay, GTA Online.
End game for GTA5 is non-existent.
GTA:O is everything that GTA5 endgame should be.
They were optional and not even that hard you meme'ing faggot.
I wouldn't really say that it ruined the game, it was a fun concept which allowed some quite interesting opportunities, but the game would probably be much much better if they focused on one character instead.
And automatic clothing change also drove me nuts, especially in case of Franklin who always seemed to change into the shittiest clothes possible. I get it that they tried to show that the characters have their own lives outside of your control but they could leave the stuff customised by player alone.
there is kind of Area 51, you can own properties (singleplayer)
I got it when it first came out and I was pissed.
>Shittiest radio in GTA
>80% of the map is nothing
>Not enough heists for a game about heists
>Lamar was the only somewhat likable character
>Online was a broken mess for the first 2 weeks leaving a shit taste in quite a few people mouths
>2 years for heists to finally come out
>Heists were such a pain in the ass to even start
>Online just became free roam deathmatch only
>Sharkcards
>Updates just take what little fun there is out of online ( ie Homing rockets)
I'm sure there's more but I haven't touched it in a while so I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
I really don't get how people call San Andreas fucking perfect
There were several missions that were fucking nearly unplayable
As for V, I did enjoy single player even with the plot being all over the place but Online is a horrible unbalanced pay to win MMO
"Did Somebody Say Yoga" reminded me a lot of RDR's Far Away moment, when you're skydiving as Michael with "Shine a Light" playing, while quotes from the other characters berating him echo around you.
The ending would have been 10x better if it was Michael making some kind of choice. I don't know why the fuck they made the FUCKING SIDE-CHARACTER be the one to make such an important decision. The whole fucking game revolved around Michael, and he was the most developed.
the loading times and the invites are particularly annoying
PS3 version here
It's faster and more consistent to load single player first than go to multiplayer. Choosing online at the start of the game sometimes doesn't even guarantee the game will begin at all.
Heists were also terrible in loading. Spend 5 hours to get a heist together and then it just freezes, fun.
