Step backwards mechanically from the previous games, story is full of holes. Still an above average shooter, wish it didn't have bullet sponge enemies
But they compensated for the lack of mechanics by disabling manual saving!
>disabling manual saving
Good thing, respawn system was shit though, just like all the other shock games except 1
Mostly Ken Levine felt as if he had to "top" Bioshock after having been repeatedly being told that Bioshock was the "best game ever" or some other such nonsense. This feeling of pressure caused him to scrap everything and completely re-write the game more than three times, until 2K eventually said enough. In desperation, Ken weaved all of the previous plot outlines into one jumbled story, using "muh quantumz" as the narrative justification, and what we see is the result.
And honestly? I still think he did a relativly admirable job as director considering the level of pressure he felt and how much of a shitshow the game's dev cycle was. Hopefully his new video game version of The twilight Zone is better handled.
Absolutely nothing,
> 1-2
> Game is shit, it feels like everything cool has already happened
> why the fuck em I listening to these fucking tapes just following bread crumbs of entire narrative
> 3
> Ok now its literally HAPPENING
> Wtf is going on
> Ghost
> Giving niggers rights ? That end wel-
> oh they are killing and raping everyone now
> oh social commentary ?
> what happening
entire game experience
Ken scrapped the whole game 6-7 months before the release and then just jumbling some shit together and released.
It is the only logical explanation for why the gameplay trailer released a few months before release was so drastically different.
Complete and utter casualization combined with awful shooting mechanics in a game that was completely scrapped and rewritten weeks before launch. So many fucking things are half assed and left out.
proof ?
My ass, but can you find anything to prove otherwise?
1 and 2 had much better gameplay, 3 is a rail shooter with no depth and tacked on plasmids
so no proof ?
Wait a minute that fucking card...
Not that user, and all I have are some Sup Forums-tier images with text over them as proof, but it's pretty obvious playing the game. There are like three separate "oh shit, it's the songbird!" moments where he is clearly an antagonist and something to avoid, and then five minutes before the end of the game they just change it to "nah, he's your ally no, press X to have him attack shit." They axed a fight with songbird because it was "too much like a video game", I shit you not.
This game hammered the nail in the coffin of modern mainstream video game critique and analysis.
The very idea that it was met with near universal acclaim is downright shameful, and speaks to the cliqueish, wannabe high art conisseur culture the video game "press" has nurtured over the past twenty plus years.
They put together an expo demo that was so on rails and scripted that several people said it was on the verge of falling to pieces the moment you even look in the wrong direction. And the people that saw that demo screamed and wept and pounder their puds over the arrival of video games as art.
And then it turns out they couldn't make that into a game, that they couldn't write something other than adolescent Doctor Who drivel, but the writers and journalists couldn't accept anything but perfection. So they had to praise it. It was too big to fail. Too important.
The spate of new reviews and revisits to Infinite by these same writers are hilarious.
Absolutely nothing. Only Sup Forums contrarians don't like it.
...
OP here and I completely agree. Felt like what Skyward Sword was to Twilight Princess.
Overhyped.
Mechanically there's not a lot wrong with it, it's generic modern FPS for the most part.
Didn't care about the story in any Bioshock, so it's not that bad for me
Disgusting clunky engine
Ran on my iGPU so I'm glad they used it
Simple. Not spoopy enough.
There was nothing of interest going on in a fairly scrappy world. I'll probably grab the he collection as I'd like to give it another shit though. Also I didn't play 2.
Pretty much this, people are memeing about everything in this game being shit made by idiots, but it's easy to see it's just a mess of thrown together ideas, and it was planning being incompetent, rather than execution of all the separate parts.
The fact that Booker manages to come out of it with an incredibly strong character arc is almost beyond impressive, considering the plot virtually had virtually no plotline leading up to it.
difficulty is shit.
Bioshock had limited ammo, health, plasmas, etc. Battling a Big Daddy with limited ammo required thinking and tactics. Infinite, you get hurt, you take cover till you heal, you have low ammo? Loot a mailbox or some shit.
Mediocrity. Threw out all the cool shit that they showed in trailers. The few rail-o-coasters that made it into the game, while showing promise of something good that could have been, were small and constricting rather than what they had shown in trailers. The world is interesting enough to peak my interest but in the trailers they showed all these bits where you could explore and discover cool shit when in the final product you could only really explore in the beginning and even then it felt like disneyland where all the cool shit and buildings around you are just cardboard cutouts. The enemies were underutilized and dumbed down from what they were in the trailers. The gunplay looked sort of promising in the trailers but final product was color-by-numbers the fps.
They also hyped the fuck out of 1999 mode or whatever they called it and that was just a fucking joke in-game. I played hardest difficulty AND 1999 mode AND I got the achievement for not using the gun shops without any real challenges other than that bullshit ghost fight.
In the end I guess I had some fun at times, but the game really is a wet blanket of an fps.
