Ray is a Flying Squirrel, just give him a Glide, and Wall Climbing like Knuckles, but can't access secret areas like he can in S3&K. Ray could be faster to compensate.

So far as I've seen, Stealth and Whitehead are mixing gameplay, graphics, and audio from the original trilogy, CD, Spinball, and Chaotix. If they were to include any characters/movesets from pic related and Chaotix in future games, I'd never stop playing.

You know that's actually right on the money to what I had in mind. He would fall faster than Knuckles would if he's doing a horizontal glide to not completely invalidate Knuckles. It might have to be limited because of how powerful it would be in typical Sonic stage design. The speed running would be incredible with it though.

But Shadow is a recolor, and the only one of those classic characters you could maybe call a recolor is Mighty.

He's only appeared in that Sonic arcade trackball game, and he plays identically to Sonic and Mighty in it.

I'd kinda like for metal sonic to be playable; instead of the spindash, he'd have his charge attack used in sonic CD. Perhaps there could be a way to implement his electric shield?

On a similar note, Amy's one problem is that they'd have to make sure she can properly get through the levels with her radically different moveset. But if she could make it through the Genesis trilogy in those hacks, she should be fine.

Amy could probably do some kind of hammer spin in midair, it could work like Sonic's flash shield from the 3rd game. For Metal Sonic's shield, you could probably charge it up by holding down a button and it would be active for like 3 seconds.

This sounds so cool, I never thought I would want Ray to be in a game ever again.

Amy was loads of fun in Advance 1. There's bits where it's really obvious the stages weren't designed around her, but she's interesting to play as.

If 2D sonic games of this quality are going to be a possibility for spin offs, I'd like to see them all but with a caveat. Each game should have 4 playable characters max with a rotating cast with Sonic as the constant. So each new game is Sonic + 3 others and it'd eventually loop back around.

What is there to check for? She rolls into a ball when forced. She has an attack in the air like anyone else. She can jump and bounce off springs higher than anyone else.
The only thing you'd have to avoid doing is making a section where it's possible to get stuck if don't have the instant speed from a spindash to go up a slope.

Yeah, she's like a hard mode kind of character with that gameplay.

Could She only Damage things with her Hammer? If so you could make Bean and Fang Similar with Fang's Pop Gun and Bean's Dynamites

Yes.
When you jump as Amy, she doesn't curl into a ball and is vulnerable and shit, but you can press B in air to do a brief spin with her Hammer, sort of like the insta shield but with better range.
Alternatively, you can press down+B in air to have Amy dive downwards while twirling her hammer.

She also has no spindash and can't roll into a ball except when she runs into things like tubes and shit.
What Amy gets instead is a short hop forward that generates a small amount of speed instantly but is rarely worth using, and a very high hammer jump performed by pressing down+B.

I think pressing down while running makes Amy almost instantly stop to crouch as well, which has some use.

Wall clinging and jumping. Slower and heavier than Sonic but easier to control, "stronger" spin-dash, and more spin maneuvers in general.

He'd probably play like a mixture of Tails and Knuckles, something like being able to ascend with his glide but only a certain amount of times. He'd probably be faster and more slippery than Knuckles, but jump much higher.

A bit slow and heavy at first, the more she takes damage the more her armor would break off (like in Fighting Vipers) allowing her to move faster and jump higher. Her primary ability would probably be flying with those fairy wings or combat maneuvers that can be applied to platforming such as jump kicks and the like.

Sonic with a gun and tail stuff instead of spinning.

Something like Plague Knight, being able to mix and match bomb combinations and throw bombs at the ground to solve puzzles/help with platforming.

Most of those ideas are too complicated. The characters have to be able to all play through the same stages, and just altering some stats makes for a boring character inclusion. If the whole appeal of the character is their face rather than actually playing as them, it's a waste of time. There's no point in adding characters who just do what other ones do but worse, like Ray there, who just sounds like a slippery Tails who flies worse. The Honey idea is the worst one. You start out as a sluggish character and have to keep getting hit and recollecting rings until you start to jump and run properly? Why not just beat your head against the first enemy in every stage? Tails already flies. What do you mean by combat maneuvers, exactly? It's a mess.
