9 is nostalgiabait for fans of 1 - 5. The problem is that that's not when FF was at it's best, FF was at it's best in 6 and 7.

The only good thing about X-2 isn't really even a good thing its just the 100 floor dungeon was ominous and legitimately terrifying jumping into it.

Other then that its trash its a abomination that shits on everything from FFX that they built up.

In a game like FFX yeah most of the time its mindless attack attack attack sometimes heal and summon. Until late end game where you need quick attack and built items but then all you do is quick attack and overdrives until bosses die and that is mindless too.

Then you have games like SMT/Wild Arms with more management and require having a plan for almost every boss and not fumbling it. Then you have games like Shadow Hearts with cool mechanics that expand upon it in the 2nd/3rd game that give you a combo/execution system that make the combat more fun.

Anyone who thinks turn based jrpgs are all mindless has only seen/played FF games.

Why after X? X is one of the worst in the series and legitimately worse than XIII.

I wouldn't say it was THAT bad.

It's more that 13 is quite as bad as most people say. The battle system was one of the better ones in the series. One of the few where status debuffs buffs etc are useful. People whine about auto battle but 13 is one of the few where I can't select remember cursor position and hold X to win.

The worst thing about XIII was its sense of pacing. Most FFs start off really well while XIII has a 30 hour tutorial.

This game was surprisingly good. Everything about it other than lightning was pretty great. I read a rumour that it was originally going to be a valkyrie profile game which would make total sense.
