Getting fucked in the butt by a burly old man.

a game with a 6/10 gameplay
an 11/10 soundtrack
and about 9/10 story
Personally i adore this game a lot!
Oh and you don't need to bother with the World of Recycled Vessel DLC it's mostly just challenge rooms and i think two skins for the characters.

>PS3 version

I'm so sorry

all save data getting deleted :^)

The gameplay is actually good, don't know why people say it's bad or something.

tell me more

just Sup Forums memes

It looks fine to me. Were people expecting AAA polish or something?

Make sure you also play Drakengard to understand more about the games and it's lore.

A good game everyone shat on because not muh AAA

Extremely overrated garbage. The gameplay and graphics are complete shit. The story is muh-feels animu nonsense with a few gimmicks, if you like that kind of shit then you might enjoy the story. The music is actually pretty good but there are very few tracks.

And do yourself a favour and don't try to fish in the area when you get the rod, the area where you're supposed to fish is on the other side of the map. I just saved you 30 minutes of frustration.

Nothing wrong with it (besides one spot where audio fucks up for me but it's completely neglible)

>there are very few tracks
>OST has around 40 of them

>Blanket statements: The Post

How many of them are a variation of -Karma or -Song of the Ancients?

>-Karma
There's only one track with that name, Emil - Karma
>-Song of the Ancients
Three versions. All with diffrent instruments, tempo and vocals.

just watch all the cutscenes if you cant stomach the gameplay

it was deliberately designed to be a repetitive and grueling experience to simulate the drudgery of war

fantastic OST though, so distressingly discordant
youtube.com/watch?v=K6OKs0zvj88

Holy sh*t dude, do you actually expect people to take someone who says "muh-feels animu" seriously? >_>

to be fair there are, like 4-5 versions of Yonah and that song the twins sing

NIER soundtrack thread?

>fantastic OST though, so distressingly discordant
It's a boring ost

The problem with the gameplay is it desperately needed more buttons and maybe a lockon system.

You have all these cool magic skills at your disposal, but no incentive or reason to use more than the first two because you are limited to only two equipped at a time (unless you want to get rid of dodge and block and get fucked by everything). And having to open multiple menus every single time you want to switch a move ends up being more trouble than it's worth when the lance can handle everything.

Also,
>AAA
>polish

Funny guy.

Ashes of Dreams has 4 or 5 versions due to diffrent language versions. But only the English one is in-game so the point is moot.

>it was deliberately designed
No it wasn't. It's just a musou game and that's how they are. Taro admitted he doesn't like DoD1 that much because of how inexperienced the team was when making it.

I would take him more seriously than a 12 year old who censors shit (SHIT) and unironically uses emoticons.

It's not good. It's plain mediocre.

Block is plain useless. Going through a speedrun I wound up using magic almost all the time because it was good (Especially dark lance) and just putting mana regen + power words made them wreck shit all the time. But block? Never used it at all.

Use Dark Lance.

>But only the English one is in-game so the point is moot.
I'm pretty sure each ending had different language playing.

>It's just a musou game and that's how they are.

It's far more boring and repetitive than any musou

how is choosing to make a musou game not deliberate design, user?

Not OP, but I have the Drakengard series on my backlog.
I assume that release order is the best way to start but is there something I should look out for?

Because musous can be fun and usually are. Drakengard however is dull as shit.

You can skip Drakengard 2.

>skipping anything

youtube.com/watch?v=Wmc3yji0G84

Why bother with Drakengard 2 when it has nothing to do with Taro which is pretty much all the series is good for?

drakengard 2 isnt even canon

Meant for

Even so, we should play all games to make our own opinions. Skipping games is for Nierfags reading walkthrough.

But Drakengard 2 is fucking useless.

It doesn't lead up to anything.

You're useless

>Nierfags

It's worth it just for Legna desu.
He did nothing wrong.

literally just finished ending D a while ago.

best game i've played this decade

Stop making threads about games you havent played

Just play it

And anyone telling you to watch Drakengard is full of shit. Period.

Yes, the Nierfags, the scum that say DoD1 isn't worth playing, to read a lparchive walkthrough, fuck them to death.

Yeah, fuck people who like what they like!

I finished DoD1 and read the lparchive playthrough after.

Had a blast.

Do Replicant and Gestalt have different music at certain points? I remember hearing music in the OST that felt new to me.

LALALALA

LALALALA

THE WATCHERS!

Stop saying "Nierfags" you retarded little shit

I literally started with Nier and im perhaps the main one advocating actually playing DoD1.

Its idiots like you that split fanbases for no reason with all this misguided crusading

let it go, you sillyface, he wants a rise out of you

Man I just couldn't get myself to complete chapter 2 of Drakengard 1. I enjoyed all musou games I've ever played except Drakengard 1. Drakengard 1 felt incredibly stupid somehow, and it felt like I was forcing myself to play it. I honestly felt like throwing up walking through the forest.

Funny its probably the only musou i give a damn about

Shit game
Good soundtrack

a game with 3/10 gameplay
an 9/10 soundtrack
and about 6/10 story
Personally i think it's mediocre as fuck but you should play it for the OST alone, when its not "empty grass field" the environments are pretty cool too.

the ideas in the game though. it was really ambitious but still mediocre. i still had fun with it. story is a 10 in my book. counting the good sidequests

>story is a 10
The pace is fucked, the way the story is told is fucked, the "twist" is boring as fuck and even if the game can be quite charming with its narrative at times (for example when you're in your house) the moments supposed to make me feel felt forced as fuck instead because they made no sense gameplay-wise, narrative is terrible.

And you're right, this game had great ideas but was medicore as fuck in the end. With Automata production value I have hope for something truly great this time though.

While Nier's OST is alright, I found it repetitive as hell. The good songs played and looped too often, and that really undermined the impression. My favourite song is probably Temple of the Drifting Sands, and that's because you only go to that place three times, two of which are really brief.

then don't play Drakengard games fag

oh fuck off, Nier isnt a perfect game although I like it enough (more than most games).

Being so overly defensive just makes these threads look bad, its ok to talk about the down-points of a game. Hell Nier has an entire list of them.

having no taste at all...

I played NieR first and I think DoD1 is well worth playing.
I pity people that spoil themselves by only seeing playthroughs.

I fucking hate Reddit

I'm being objective, it's not about taste it's about factual construction of the narrative, and the narrative is bad because it's all over the place.

If you read a book with a decent story in your life, the narrative of Nier is piss in comparison.

The games story has me very confucius, I don't understand it

The soundtrack is great though

Hows the PS3 version vs the 360 version?

I'm talking about the north american version

To be fair, you're using terms such as "boring" or "felt", which are subjective phrases. I agree that the pacing is off, but saying it's objectively terrible is a stretch.

I'm playing through this right now, I think I'm quite close to the end. The gameplay is honestly not great, it's pretty mashy and you'll find yourself spamming 1 or 2 magic attacks as the rest are complete shit. The more you play, the more OP you get, to a point where you'll have a ridiculously strong weapon and annihilate enemies with ease, while receiving crappier weapons as rewards from quests. Combat against bosses feels quite tedious and is just a matter of "hit the glowing weak point".

The world map is fairly small and boring, but still requires a lot of running around until you unlock a fast travel system about halfway through the game (fuck riding boars they're impossible to control). There are also relatively few areas in the game overall, and you end up revisiting most of them.

Of course the soundtrack is amazing, no complaints there, but they do re-use some tracks throughout the game.

Story is pretty decent, especially if you've played DOD1, which, by the way I really liked and would suggest people play it.

tl;dr it excels in some areas and is pretty mediocre in others. Overall though worth playing. ZP does a pretty good review if you're willing to give it a watch. youtube.com/watch?v=ve_a4vweeyQ

Exactly the same

listen to this guy
youtube.com/watch?v=x6OXbqTbtHs
this goes to OP as well.

A shitty game that you're supposed to like because "muh feels" and "muh daughter"

i honestly didn't care for yonah anymore so take your muhs up your ass. I was in it for the overall experience.

By the time ending B rolled around i really wouldnt have cared if Nier and his party all died. P & D were my favorite characters

I like Nier for the same reason I like Deadly Premonition or Killer 7: It's strange, ambitious, and simply unlike anything else I've played.
