I kinda want to start playing the Danganronpa series
Where should I start?
Is it like a Zero Escape for the plot or just a weaboo Ace Attorney?

C'mon, man, for media that's story heavy, you always go in release order.

It's pretty retarded in general. The first thing you learn in the game is that everyone there is a sociopath, and will not hesitate to use/kill you. No exceptions.

You start with Danganronpa, then 2, then watch the current anime.

It's ZE minus seriousness + Ace Attorney + waifuism + silliness x 100000

I love DR more than ZE after ZTD

Are you a weeb? Do you like complex villains with complex motives?

play DR1, then DR2, then watch the DR3 anime that's currently airing.

If you like wild rides then you're gonna enjoy it. Get out of the thread before you get spoilered.

I wonder if uchi has seen this

-Start with Danganronpa 1 and 2 on PC/Vita.

-Read Danganronpa Zero (there is a fan translation)

-Watch Danganronpa 3 anime and alternate between the Future and Despair side (they are intertwined where watching one will explain the other and give hints).

The plot is basically: You are stuck in a school or on a island, you do not have your memories, and you need to escape with 15-16 other people. The main antagonist (monokuma) does things to force your classmates to kill each other (Blackmail, bribes, info, etc). Once someone is killed, a trial happens to figure out who did it, and it mostly involves a heated discussion with your classmates on figuring out clues. Also involves mini-games and various other things. If you don't figure out who killed, then the killer is freed and everyone else is killed. If the killer is caught, only they are killed and everyone else is spared. Rinse and repeat. Has a lot of story and bonding moments, and has some social link like scenarios in between.

Personally, I like it better then Ace Attorney. It has a bit more going on, and while there are some really frustrating moments, the trials are set up much better.

I'm viewing right now the characters design and they're fucking horrible, the eyes are awful
And no, ZTD is a shitty game

>mfw DR was originally going to be a ZE clone and they changed it to be more lighthearted and silly mid-way through development

Oh yeah, there is also Another Episode. If you have a Vita, play that between Danganronpa 2 and watching the anime. It is a sequel to 1 and a prequel to 2, but it spoils a lot of 2's plot.

Its alright. Not the best game in the series and it has some pretty meh moments, but it is fairly interesting and is sort of a look at the outside world. No PC port yet, but it would not surprise me if its in the works. We have no idea yet if it will be relevant to the anime, but so far there is only a brief cameo in the first episode.

There is also the Killer Killer manga you should read while watching the anime. Starts out slow and is kind of ridiculous, but it has revealed a few things about the new characters and a possible hint at what is going on.

No way you'd like DR then. Story and characters are balls to the wall retarded.

Play in this order
>VLR
>Ultra Despair Girls
>Danganronpan 2
>ZTD
>Danganronpa
>999

Best to worst?

ZTD takes place after DR1

The religious cult leader that doomed the entire world was Junko Enoshima

>there are people who think DR and ZE share a common universe

It's great.

The class trials are some of the most fun I've had in games period.

ZTD survivors create the Future Foundation

>There are people who actually take it seriously

ZE's set in the late 2020s while DR's set in the early 2010s. It would make no sense if they were in the same universe; ZE makes it seem like the world is in a pretty good shape before the events of the series, whereas it would not at all be so in the DR universe.

Order to play is simply DR1 > DR2 > DR: Despair Girls

Then watch the DR3 anime as that's not going to be a game.

DR fans are not the brightest of the bunch.

What's up with the similarities between ZTD and the Futurce Arc?

I don't think anybody actually believes DR3 ends with Carlos barging in to save the day.

If it ends withTime Travel bullshit however...

Kodaka and Uchikoshi have been accidentally MIND HACKING eachother.

actually it was ZTD fans who came up with that '''''theory''''' broseph

I think part of what makes people think DR and ZE have something to do with each other is that ZE's plot contains a multitude of ways in which someone might be able to influence the world despite having died, and they think DR3 needs Junko's influence to really work as a story, and they already used "AI" as an excuse for her showing up again. If Junko accessed the morphogenetic field or some shit that would be a way for her to show up again.

Are Monokuma's motives COMPLEX

DR fans ARE ZTD fans.
Why do you think ZTD threads are 95% memes, """broseph"""?

No they're fucking retarded.

Isn't Junko the smartest character in the series though?

I mean, she's insane, but it's not like she isn't a genius.

Because the game is shit and the memes are the community's way to heal the pain, faggot.

DR in a nutshell.

Acting like a drooling retard brings her despair.

>comes into a thread about a game to hate on it

Sup Forums in a nutshell.

Why are you even alive?

Read the op, faggot.

It's very easy to boil it down into one word.

DESPAIR

Is there an interview or something where that's stated or are you just memeing me up, senpai?

You mean...you don't know?! How could you not know?! That's...that's practically blasphemous.

The characters look less ugly therey desu

Depending on how much trust you had with certain characters, other characters would kill instead and the story would change.

Kirigiri was also supposed the first to be killed.

Nah, ZTD was great, much more enjoyable than 999 ever was.

That's also why Leon's execution was the only really violent and slightly graphic one, it was made before the game took a shift in tone. And he was the first one to get eliminated along with Sayaka because they were used as base male and female student drafts and the developers were sick of drawing them.

ZE had a better plot at first, but ZTD shit itself so badly that DR has a better plot now.

It's better at characterization (although terrible characters have always been ZE's weakness, so that's not really fair), but the plot twists are way easier to see coming and the gameplay is a totally different genre.

Overall, VLR>DR series (all the games are about the same quality)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 999>ZTD

>ZTD shit itself so badly that DR has a better plot now.
It wasn't THAT bad. ZTD is at least as good as DR2.

Just finished ZTD a few hours ago.
>reached the Final Decision
>chose obvious Bad End first
>chose supposed Good End next
>credits start to roll
>"Wait, this is some rushed and half-assed shit. But I guess there was a timer on that final decision and letting those run out has always-"
>gain Platinum trophy after credit roll
>"Oh. ... Okay."

ZTD had some potential during the parts where you started to put the puzzle pieces and timelines together to close in on the big picture. But damn if Uchikoshi didn't royally fuck up that big picture with an even bigger asspull twist and a lackluster ending.

That's what happens when you scrap the original story and have other writes work on the other teams.

>scrap the original story because no one but the filthy gaijins appreciates your work
Life is simply unfair.

>It wasn't THAT bad
MIND HAKKU

Explain to me what was so bad about MIND HACKING

>those freckles
the CUTEST

>DR1 in the same tier as DR2
Full retard.

I really liked the black screen ending desu since it was the only decision they really made on their own the whole game

That being said the ending itself was stupid and every goddamn plot twist was worse than the last, which was strange considering that even VLR's most blatantly unoriginal twists were executed better than any of the ridiculous bullshit in this one

Also all the characters sucked and had zero development (just like the game lmao) and they never interacted with each other outside of their teams

Kills me because it had so much potential, the fragments started out really cool and the atmosphere of dread and unease was like nothing the franchise had ever given me before and it all came crashing down right at the end. I remember preordering it thinking this was the safest preorder I'd ever put down and being super excited. God damn I can't believe I waited four years for this and I can't believe this is supposed to be the franchise's conclusion

Asspull of hilarious proportions and opens up a gigantic series of plotholes.

I liked the idea that Delta is supposed to represent the player because he views the whole thing and uses his abilities to make them kill each other and make choices they would never make on their own and basically to put them through hell just because "he finds it interesting" but that didn't really go anywhere unfortunately

Is Zero really required reading? I started reading it but some dickhat spoiled it for me just like people ALWAYS do for Danganronpa shit.
I know the girl is actually Junko so I feel like my perspective/enjoyment of reading the book would be basically completely destroyed, and it doesn't feel like it had too much relevance to the plot from what I know.

ZTD shits itself, but not THAT much

Yes, most of the stuff we're going to see with Hajime/Chiaki are going to have to do with DR:Zero

You'll learn why being part of the student counsil is an interesting deal when you read Zero.

>but not THAT much
Zero is just offscreen the entire game

Also let's not forget that apparently Akane straight up lied for absolutely no reason at the end of VLR when she told Sigma she has no idea what happens at Dcom

Why was DR2 better than the original in every conceivable way?

Still better than teenage girl with a weird ass fetish caused the end of the world.

>MIND HACC was an asspull
Using the morphogenetic field to mind control people was mentioned in 999 and in VLR they mention that Brother has the power to mind control
The name might is complete shit tho

I think the characters are the biggest factor; they were just so much better than those of DR1 in general.

first post best post

I didn't say that. I just said it was really stupid.

But the execution just made no sense. How did he use it in timelines where he was already dead? How did he use it to get information like the twins' birthday and the fanatic?

I guess its existence isn't really an asspull, but his use of it is in a way.

It's no use, you were born a shitter.

>999 that down below

We've gone off topic.

That legitimately felt more conclusive, satisfying AND made more sense than the original ending.

and had better animation

Man Delta's voice is so soothing
