is elite dangerous a good videogame?
should I buy it?
Is elite dangerous a good videogame?

No.
Its shit.
why
>no demo
>always online DRM
It's shit by default.
oh so you are this kind of retard
opinion discarded
anyone with proper opinion?
What, I'm the kind of retard that expects to not be treated like a criminal on a leash to access the games I pay for?
What kind of self-hating faggot buys games with server side always online DRM? In a couple of years the game will be literally unplayable.
It was fun for a while with a friend.
The major downside is that each system jump places you right into the fucking sun. So you have to emergency break right after your jump ends or your ass is gonna become plasma.
The phobia it created within me still haunts me to this day.
original is better. Kind of embarrassing the authors didn't understand their own game
There isn't really any variety and the flight model is just bad.
>In a couple of years the game will be literally unplayable
yeah, stuff like that is a full showstopper for me. Elite still works just fine, is a hell of a lot of fun. Elite Dangerous won't function at all in a couple years, and even if it does, it'll be lifeless, because it was relying on other people, instead of making its own universe
You should try it if you can get it for free. Its not thaaat much fun unless you are one of the people who will end up really into it.
It's a cargo delivery simulator. There's just not much of a game to it. There's some combat, but it's incredibly awkward. It seems to be made with joysticks and flight sim enthusiasts in mind, so it's unapproachable for normal players. Yet the physics are all wrong and the controls stiff enough that sim players also don't like it.
It's just not a particularly good game. Flying around and docking is kind of interesting, but that experience will wear thin after about an hour.
>jumping into a brown dwarf
>WARNING: TEMPERATURE CRITICAL
>anyone with proper opinion?
Sure.
There is nothing to do. NOTHING.
People joke about this being Space Euro Truck Simulator, but that's an insult to Euro Truck Simulator.
>lol well whatever i'll just buy it and ask for a steam refund if I don't like it in two hours.
Nigga its gonna take you two hours minimum before you fucking undock and leave the first station. That's unfortunately the BEST PART of the game.
You're fucking brand new and starry eyed and looking at your cool fucking cockpit in free look. Oh shit look that menu POPS UP WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT. FUUUTUUUURE.
You go and check the star map, oh shit that's a lot of planets around this sta- THERES MORE? OH MY GOD THERE'S MILLIONS.. TRILLIONS.. FUCKING GORILLIONS OF STARS NEARBY I CAN FLY TO ALL OF THEM? I CAN CLIMB THAT MOUNTAIN, TODD?
Sure you can, and each fucking star system is literally n o t h i n g.
Every place you jump to will be
50% chance of just a fucking star and literally nothing.
30% useless fucking dead planets, maybe a station. By the way there are only 3 station designs in this game. Enjoy seeing the exact same fucking shit everywhere.
10% chance theres a fucking planet with mineable belt, but most of the time its rocky garbage and not metallic.
4% chance theres a belt with a station nearby which is by far the second best way to make money in the game.
3% chance there's some kind of PvE faction conflict going where you can actually get into big spess battle with NPCs and come out with a mediocre amount of cash vouchers.
2.9999% chance there's actually something unique you haven't seen yet by now.
0.0000000000001% chance of finding something nobody else has explored by now unless you pick a direction and jump for 3 weeks IRL.
Oh yeah by the way space travel is literally picking a point on your map, manually pointing your ship in the general direction and pressing the "jump" button which you have a friendly computer count down from 3 and you get put into a hyperspace loading screen.
there isn't alot to do it in it other than trade like a mule or do bounty missions most of which will be way out of your league in the early game
It's very visually pleasing though i'd rate the game 7/10 but i just cant get on with the "trade until you certain class of ship THEN you can have fun for about 7~ missions before you're out classed again"
I have 400 hours in elite dangerous, and I can safely say it's currently turning out to be a disappointment. The potential is there, but currently it's a giant box with no sand. Development on multicrew has been delayed, and this season has been really underwhelming.
If you buy it wait for the new season to start beginning of next year. By then multicrew should be out and it will be playable with friends.
>original is better
its literally vector graphics crap
>playable with friends
I want Elite to be 100% single player or I'm not interested. Crews don't sound much like Elite anyway, but even out there in space, not a single human player. I want them all to be AI NPCs.
you're pulling the graphics card? really?
come visit the /edg/ and find out
yeah its not pleasing to look at. space game needs to actually look good, its a fucking space.
also the UI and controls on the original have aged like milk
I know you have rose tinted glasses for it
what did you do for 146 hours until you realized there was nothing to do?
Desperately looked for something to justify the $60 I spent, since I was well beyond refund time by the time I realized there was FUCKING NOTHING (~20 hours).
I thought "Well maybe shit just sucks early game, you know? Gotta progress and get the big awesome ships."
Except that takes literal months, and the best ship is a fucking 5 mil Vulture anyway. It's a goddamn fighter with the best turn rate with TWO capital ship sized weapon mounts. Its fucking useless for freighter or mining, but it was a beast in combat.
Playing the markets is fucking pointless without an extremely large freighter and a stockpile of money, mining is somehow the LEAST profitable method even if you use the sneaky safe way of avoiding NPC pirates. Bounty hunting is kinda mid-high on profit but its literally the only ACTUAL FUCKING GAMEPLAY YOU WILL FIND.
Oh yeah one more thing. SMUGGLING. You fly out to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, buy a bunch of slaves, and fly it back into civilized space. SOUNDS EXCITING RIGHT? THIS SUPER SECRET DEAL WITH SHADY ORGANIZATIONS?
Yeah as SOON as you leave dock with your secret slaves, 3 MILLION FUCKING SPACE NIGGERS ALL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE IN CARGO, AND CHASE YOU THROUGH EVERY JUMP SCANNING AND SHOOTING AT YOUR ASS.
3,000 LIGHTYEARS AWAY AND THE SPACE-POPO KNOWS. ALSO IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE IN THE FASTEST SHIP AND THEY'RE IN THE SLOWEST SHIP THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY ABLE TO JUMP TO YOUR LOCATION EXACTLY AND INTERDICT YOU.
Q U A L I T Y
D E S I G N
V I S I O N
>the big awesome ships
I always thought Elite was about having a dinky little space bucket and becoming legendary in it. The bigger ships are for the rich and clueless. All it takes is a Cobra and a hot pilot
This guy knows. E:D is a beautiful game with shallow gameplay and shit devs. Big disappointment.
>best ship is vulture for literal months
If you don't know how to farm money and do only useless faction missions
>playing the markets is fucking pointless
eddb.io
>mining is somehow least profitable
Bait. You aren't mining cobaly or copper, do you?
>9999 zibillion pirate attackers while smuggling
It's fixed.
I'm not defending this game. It's fucking repetitive. Do you like space? Do you like simulators? Do you like grinding? Then go for it.
You should under no circumstances buy it.
It's shit.
Gameplay is pure grinding.
Redditard/dad community had every good ship nerfed into the ground.
Devs continue to add set-dressing instead of fulfilling promises and adding substance because they've got at least 250 USD of DLC they plan to squeeze out (limited edition lifetime pass cost $200)
I have 400 mil creds in the bank.
Owned it since Beta.
Do NOT even waste time thinking about this game.
They did literally everything they could do wrong.
I bet this is how NMS is going to turn out too.
Fuck off forum dad.
The only reason the game is like that (i.e. unbalanced and broken) is because of fucking "endgame cobra" hugboxers.
It depends OP
People who's said there isn't really anything to do aren't lying. There really isn't all that much except trading, bounty missions, getting as much money as you can - but then this is kind of the case with a lot of space sims. It's visually very impressive and it controls really nice, playing it with a good flightstick (or if you've got the full HOTAS setup) feels very cool
If you place a lot of importance on immersion and "comfiness" then yeah, buy it. If you want something with a bit more meat to it then no
>The only reason the game is like that (i.e. unbalanced and broken)
Are you talking about E:D? Because I wasn't
Get Everspace instead
I've played for over 1K hours. You WILL sink time into it.
HOWEVER
After a certain point, you will realize how... dull it is.
There is no depth to ANYTHING you do. No changing economy, no real PvE, no real pirate gameplay, no depth anywhere. 90% of the game is traveling, and that's boring as shit.
You WILL sink time into it. It WILL hook you in for a while.
But you'll eventually realize it was all time wasted.
nigga it's not drm
it's a multiplayer game
still boring though
>But you'll eventually realize it was all time wasted
You can quite literally say that about any and every video game.
>it's not drm
if the game won't work without the remote infrastructure, it's drm
>it's a multiplayer game
yeah, that was a huge mistake
Nah m8
It has a solo mode, and a offline mode was promised during the KS
Online only became a thing when they realized they wanted to suck $300 out of players dicks for the content scheduled for 1.0
yeah, it's sad
>buy E:D
>hyped as fuck, even took the dust off of my stick
>game looks beautiful
>full of stars, and you can go to every one of them
>ships flying in and out of a nearby station, so pretty
>so hyped right now
>flying with stick turns out pointless
>most stars are emply and only useful if you want to make money as an explorer by getting paid with pocket change
>when a star system isn't empty it has a backwater station
>get pulled over by bullies in shiny new offensive ships and get wrecked
>dogfighting is pointless if you're on a noob ship
>you can't get out of noob ship without money
>you can't get money without infinite boring grind with trade or mining
>play a few hours and drop it
>Horizons announce
>slightly hyped for the new features
>hey, customer, you have to pay 40$ to access it
>no we won't give you any discount for owning regular E:D
>bad luck, huh? should've waited to buy Horizons instead of E:D!
Never again.
"Single player mode" still requires connection.
Also """multiplayer""" nigga you will probably go your first 50 hours before you see your first human.
Every MMO I've ever played has had me make at least one friend.
Every single player game I've played has had me enjoy the story, gameplay, or something else.
Every non-MMO multiplayer game has had me fall in love with the gameplay even if I didn't play it for that long.
ED had me sink over 1K hours into it and I came out realizing I got nothing accomplished, did not get immersed in the world, there was no story, and the gameplay was purposefully made to be shit in the name of "Realism."
If you had a good time you didn't waste it.
E:D wastes times, because you put time doing tedious jumps, waiting for it to reward you with something that never comes.
>you will probably go your first 50 hours before you see your first human.
You know there are starter systems and these systems are populated af.
Ok. So interact with those players.
>Trade with them
Oh wait, you can't.
>Fight them
Why? There's no reward. You'd be costing yourself ammo and repair money.
>Party up with them and trade cargo from station to station together
Why? That makes pirates spawn more often and you're WAY more likely to get attacked.
>Party up and bounty hunt together
That cuts profits a lot. With four players in a party, that 100,000Cr bounty just became 25,000Cr thanks to being split four ways.
>there's no reward
>not killing haulers with 200cr bounties for the y thos
>200cr bounties
That's less than the ammo I spend on them. Hell, that's about as much as the fuel it takes to get there seeing as I usually just load up on large lasers to save on ammo cost.
