Should I get this or a 480 if I want to max games at 1080p for the next few years?

>max games at 1080p for the next few years
1070 as a minimum.

480 is more than enough for 1080p.

Sure as hell not for maxing games at 1080p. It's somewhere between a 970 and 980, closer to the 970. Which is already incapable of holding 60 fps on Ultra at 1080p in quite a few games.

Wait for the RX480 Nitro+ before deciding desu.

Neither
>480 explodes your PCI-E slots
>1060 can't do Vulkan/DX12

Bruh the GTX 480 is old as fuck. It dont even compete!

>480 explodes your PCI-E slots

Fixed two weeks ago with a driver update. You're completely out of excuses to not get a 480.

fucking this

people don't realize that to actually never drop below 60 fps you need to have an average of AT LEAST 80-90, and preferably 100-120 or higher.

only the GTX 1070 and 1080 are actually capable of that, and even the 1070 can start showing weakness when u tweak for >Ultra settings (eg. driver-enhanced AA).

>You're completely out of excuses to not get a 480.
>You're completely out of excuses to not get the shittier card of the two

u cant even max games right now with either of those unfortunately

>annihilates 1060 in every vulkan benchmark
>shittier

GTX1070 can max The Witcher 3 at 2560x1080 with hairworks off at roughly 70 to 80 fps.

It can max it at 2560x1440 as well if the benchmarks are to be believed.

how long till the 480 is more readily available and prices arent as bloated?

Uh?

>OC'd R9 390
>play everything at 2560x1440 at max or near max
Anyone saying you need more than a $200 GPU for 1080p is a shill

ok

>Dark Souls 3
Truly a demanding game
>GTA V

>with Hairworks off

Hmmm

ITS A LIEEE

That's not 1440p.
Care to post your settings?
Also - care to take a stroll around Blaine County?

DELETE THIS

It's downsampled 1440p to 1080p, there is no AA activated for that reason.
settings Sure, would mount chiliad be ok? If not, just tell me where should I go.

GTA V is mostly CPU limited.
I'm running 2560x1440 2x MSAA on a R9 390. Looks fucking amazing and still getting 40-50fps.

>max settings
Except Grass on High (the most demanding option two pegs down), Depth Of Field off (it has no effect on performance, I swear!), no Extended Shadows Distance (shadows are ugly anyway!), not 1440p (that's ~1.7x 1080p, not 1.5x) and better not show the rest of the settings either.
Spot the AMDfriendo lying :^) A creative definition of Max settings though, I'll give you that.

>fury 350€

wat do?

>when you take out your old shit GPU and install the GTX 1070 and everything works

delicious famalam

>DoF and Motion Blur look like ass and literally have 0 performance impact
>BUBUBU
Grass on ultra brings even Titan X SLI to its knees.

>Depth Of Field off (it has no effect on performance, I swear!)
There is a reason it's overused on console AAA hot garbage to make it look "next-gen", whatever that means. It costs nothing performance-wise but looks like ass.

You've lost, bitching about it some more will only make you look like a bigger retard.

GTX 480? My GTX 580 couldn't even handle GTA V on 1080p most of the times. Definitely go for the 1060.

>You've lost,

280€

fucking WHERE

You've got that mixed up with Motion Blur. DoF might look like ass (I like it when it's used in moderation), but it certainly doesn't have zero perf. impact.
But maybe you should pay more attention to all the other things I've listed and not grasp at DoF alone.

>>You've got that mixed up with Motion Blur
I know what it looks like, DoF blurs stuff you aren't looking at but my eyes do that naturally, why would I force it on top of a sharp game?

>caught lying red handed
>immediately resort to fedora posting
Nice

mindfactory.de/search_result.php?search_query=gtx 1060&x=0&y=0

Pretty common.

>the good MSI ones are 340

How do they keep getting away with this

But while there is obviously no reason not to crank textures and shaders quality to the max if you can, shit like DoF/Motion Blur and other postprocessing garbo is another story. Not everyone loves having vaseline smeared over distant background or moving objects.

The supply is low, so some desperate people who absolutely want them end up buying them. AIB partners know this, can take advantage of it.

I've seen ASUS 1060s go for 390€ on retailers, not just scalpers.

This to be honest family. You can still play plenty of games at 1080p on 60fps and acceptable settings on a 7850 and 560ti, which both are roughly 5 years old cards.

The 560ti will fall off soon seeing as Nvidia dropped Fermi support for Vulkan and are reluctant to release DX12, but people who invested early into high-end GCN cards like the 7970 will still get a few years worth of mileage out of them.

560 Ti is over a year older than 7850, you know.

Yeah but I wanted to mention Nvidia dropping the balls with Fermi

And AMD dropped driver support for 5000/6000-series last year.

Is the EVGA 1060 SC the best for bang per buck among the 1060 line?

Depends on how much you are paying for it.

As far as performance is concerned, there are no real differences between different 1060s. While some may have larger factory overclocks than the others, these generally don't amount to more than a few percent, and they're something you could do yourself anyway. Cooling obviously differs, but considering 1060 draws fairly little power (and therefore outputs little heat) it's not of that great importance either.

>vulkan
Kek

Yeah the issue with that is that AMD never promised to bring DX12 to them, or even fuck with DX12 development to make it work on Fermi because at the time Fermi was 25% market share

Which one is the most quiet of them? That's what's most important to me. GPU noise gives me headache.

The Gainward Phoenix is the quietest 1080, 1070 and 1060. They're hard to find in the US though.
It uses a massive 10.5", triple slot cooler though so you need to make sure you have room for it.

February this year actually. My 6970 still works fine.

Went by this
anandtech.com/show/9815/amd-moves-pre-gcn-gpus-to-legacy

And yes, my 5850 still works fine too.

I just bought one of those. I returned it because fuck if I can fit it in my case without is fucking over everything else I have in there.

Hairworks is way too expensive to fps and the benefit is minimal. Doesn't matter what card you're using in that regard, it's plain not worth turning on unless you have 3 GTX1080s in sli.

WE have it in Sweden too
proshop.se/Grafikkort/Palit-GeForce-GTX-1060-DUAL-6GB-GDDR5/2560415?b=palit~msi~evga~asus~sapphire~gigabyte~matrox~xfx

However this store has kind of a bad rep to it, long delivery times etc, but this price is great.

320€ for the cheapest 1060 here and Sapphire 480 Nitro still not listed but the reference 480s is 272€ for the cheapest Being a yuropoor and a poorfag is suffering when one wants to build a nice budget pc.

>maxed
>isn't actually close to maxed
Every single fucking time god damn
Just stop using maxed you fucking retards

First of all,
>Vulkan

It's not even true anyways. Nvidia is currently winning the budget option this gen.

>doesn't have meme post fx toggled on so it's not maxed

Even Nvidia says DOF has minimal performance quality : geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide#grand-theft-auto-v-in-game-depth-of-field-effects

What's the best version of the 1070 that I can get once prices go down? Money isn't really a concern, but I still don't care about paying more for miniscule increases in performance.

Kind of wondering what i should get myself.
Should i get and AMD processor or an intel? a 480 or a 1060? and should i bother getting an ssd if it's just for games?

7850 can't even hit 60 fps on low settings pfam in Witcher 3

source: i have a 7850

Wait for Zen CPUs to make your move on CPUs, then get whatever has the most bang for your buck.

IMO the RX 480 is better, just because of the GSYNC tax, all the shady bs nvidia has been pulling for ages. Its performances are pretty fucking amazing, I'm never bottlenecked by my GPU except in a few titles with absurd options (like GTA V Grass detail).
>SSD
if you can afford it, go for it but install your OS there too.

No idea. MSI with the dual fan + red shell around heatsink has the best cooling / least noise.

I had a GTX 570 and while I could play a lot of games at 1080p 60fps, I had to make a lot of compromises on settings. Not anymore since I upgraded to a RX 480 but still. I'll grab some high end/flagship tier card when I'll afford a HTC Vive.

Two 480s, better and cheaper than the 1080

asus strix

gonna get a 1070, EVGA or MSI?

Sapphire > MSI > rest

>2017
I waited for the graphics cards to come out before trying to decide if all i do is wait for stuff to come out i'll never actually build this pc.

It's hard to say for certain, but the 1060 seems to edge it. It's faster overall, but the 480 benefits more from DX12 and has more VRAM.

Are there actually any games where you would need to max out your FPS?

counterstrike

besides all of them? Not really no.

whats so good about the MSI 1060 X over the other ones? factory overclock?

Not everyone's threshold for "acceptable" is PS2 graphics with the unoptimized games in the past 5 years m8. And it's going to get worse.

I found my 280X, which is quite above 7850, to run newer stuff on settings that are not acceptable at all for me at 1080p( and it's not CPU bottlenecked since it's an i5 3570K at 4.4GH)z. It did well in crossfire with another 280x but turned into a heater and that's not acceptable with my current apartment with no AC. Not to mention that more and more newer games can't even support crossfire and sli in the first place.

Got a 1070 and am finally playing things comfortably even with DSR

I mean, you guys are acting like it's a big deal that fps drops for like a moment. When the entire point of gaming is if the game is fun or not.

So basically just first person shooters?

Define need

There is almost no difference. Even if you overclock there won't be more than ~2% difference between any model, since nvidia hardlocked overclocking pretty tight. Just get whatever is quieter or looks better for you

In order for the game to be fun the fps needs to be stable. Any drops immediately pull out from the experience as fps directly affects gameplay.

Like what?

As in it's essential to playing the game. It's not like it matters if the fps is maxed as long as the game is stable.

>2880x1620

Well no shit retard.

What kind of resolution is that anyway?
1080p, 1440p and 2160p are the only acceptable resolutions.

Are you seriously going to say that a game running at stable 30fps is just as enjoyable as the same game running at 60fps?

If your answer is yes, you just have low standards, you're blind or retarded or any combination of these. How hard is it to comprehend that people want things to be better?

I just don't see the big fucking deal? There are plenty of games at 30fps that are fun to play.

stable 30fps > 60fps with unstable fps.

Coming in 24 hours.

Can't fucking wait desu senpai.

What are you planning to play?

MSI 1080 costs 850e in my country :^)

Rise of the Tomb Raider completely maxed out

>tfw R9 270
>Have to settle for slightly above 30 fps

What should I buy in the 250 euro range that could give me a substantial boost??

Still maxing out games at 1080p with my 8 year old GTX 8800 and C2D E8400 with solid 60+ FPS. Why even upgrade?

Minesweeper doesn't count.

1060/480 or a used 980.

Envious? I get solid 60+ crispy silky butter smooth FPS in Total War: Warhammer, GTA V and The Witcher 3 to mention a few.

Yes.

>I mean, you guys are acting like it's a big deal that fps drops for like a moment. When the entire point of gaming is if the game is fun or not.
It is a big deal for things like fighting games

stop lying

I'm not, buddy. It's not my fault that everyone else treats their computer like a tablestand and installs every bloatware they come across.

My r9 290 is now faster than a Titan.

for that reason alone i wouldn't buy an nvidia card right now. not unless they start fully supporting DX12 and Vulkan.
