>series changes genre in the sequel
Series changes genre in the sequel
>its just as good/better
>series changes genre in the spin-off
>spin-off becomes it's own series
>it's better than the main games
>tfw Fallout
What is "Forza Horizons"?
>sequel changes platform
...
>long awaited sequel is finally announced
>it's a prequel
>"sequel" is produced
>it's a tangentially related spiritual successor
>series changes developer in the sequel
>game changes genre halfway through the story
name 1 (ONE) game that does this
name one
You're going to hate me when I finally start professionally making my games.
My games are released backwards chronologically, every sequel is actually a prequel to the last. I think this is a good design that hasn't been explored fully.
k
Dune, kinda
Drakengard?
Brutal Legend.
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Platformer/adventure game that turns into a shooter for the last 3 acts
>sequel becomes Pachinko
this. This fucking shit
Great Gods of Metal, this RTS thing was so fucking shit. Running and fighting was awesome, even some companion system would be great, but obligatory RTS mode destroyed whole game for me.
Saints Row 3 and 4
I hear you man. I didn't even mind the RTS shit actually, I just liked the regular action a lot more, and there was no need to change it.
Manhunt
VTMB
>hunter: the reckoning is a gamecube title
>the sequel, wayward, is a ps2 title
>the final game, redeemer, is an xbox title
Why is WOD cursed?
Deus Ex
I fucking stopped playing near the end due to those obnoxious RTS segments.
At first they were manageable, but then they start lasting too darned long, with the battles getting really tedious, and you never feel like you have much control over anything.
Pikmin did it right, you mostly stayed close to your "units" and had much more control over them. Plus the mechanics were somewhat simple, not with long ass tech trees and units that never seemed to help much.
I managed to finish it, but only just.
There's no worse feeling when you buy a game and it involves/devolves into some genre you dislike. I can't explain how much I hate it when horror games turn into action ones.
How did you enjoy RE6 then?
Pretty much every modern Final Fantasy
>first half of the game is a great corridor with cinematics and some battles in between
>second half is open world(ish) with tons of optional content.
I actually enjoyed RE6 because by that point, it wasn't even a horror series. I got into the series late, am yet to play 2 or 3, and was only remotely scared by the REmake. I love cheesy action movies, so that's why I liked 6. Fuck those QTEs though.
you better make the prequel just as interesting as the first game if not more
>genre-shifted game goes so well they never go back to the original ones
>new fans don't even acknowledge that the other games existed
i'm looking at you fallout
RE can be included into this as well, dependent on how and when you entered the series mind you.
So, never? Unless you want to show off some of the unprofessional stuff you've made.
>Series finale is the same genre as the first game.
>sequel shares genre and uses the same engine as first game
>default controls are changed around for no reason
>game changes genre in the final boss battle
Call of Cthulu
>final boss is a turret section
>you never get to find out what happens next
yeah, that will be good story telling. theres a reason why nobody just has a series of prequels going backwards, because people can only stand "backstory" for so long, because thats all a prequel is, giving you background information for the story they want to know more about (the original).
Not him, but has any game ever done a story that's both a prequel and a sequel? Like a story that shows you what happens next, but might be mostly a prequel?
A TV equivalent I can think of is something like Better Call Saul.
>The enhanced re-release/port is never localized
Alan Wake
> game allows you to control and develop all party members
> only allowed to use MC in final boss fight.
Fuck you Sudeki.
