I own this game on PSP and Wii. I don't think I need it again.
Literally didn't know this was happening. Thanks OP, loved this one on PS2, got me into NIS shit.
Or you can just emulate it right now nigger
That's cool senpai. Actually, which version do you prefer of those two? Doesn't the PSP version have more content than the Wii version?
Sure thing user. Phantom Brave is probably my favorite NIS game. I like its much more personal story.
Is there a way to emulate it to where you have it at its prettiest (Wii) with all the extra content of the PSP version?
what is this Phantom Brave?
So, why are they re-releasing these games for PC an entire decade after they came out on easily emulatable consoles instead of making new games in the series available for PC from the start?

Just sell some cards already.
SRPG that isn't tile based where you play a girl named Marona that can summon phantoms to help her in battle. Its unique in that whenever you summon a unit, they can only stay on the field for a few turns, and after that they go away and can't be summoned again for the rest of the battle, so you have to carefully summon characters to the battlefield in proper locations at proper times in order to succeed.
The story is about this girl Marona trying to make a living while trying to get people to like her, as her family died from a monster attack years ago with the exception of her brother, who's magical ability allowed him to live on as a phantom. However, this caused everyone to think she's possessed, so now she tries her hardest to help people in the hopes of gaining their trust and being liked.
The game was originally on PS2, but later got a Wii and PSP port. Now its getting ported to PC.
>Have to wait 15 days due to Steam Guard bullshit
FUCK YOU GABEN!
Why would you want to start a series from a newer game instead of an earlier game? Plus this gives them the chance to make more definitive versions of the games; with so many ports that these games have had, different versions have appeals that the others don't. This is a way to remedy that.
I don't have cards nigggaaaaa
Got into Disgaea when it came out on Steam and did all the endgame shit. Does this game have a similar endgame system or is the final boss just as far as it goes?
t. piratefag
>emulating
>not pirating it on the PSP
It is possible to emulate without pirating. Especially if its the PS2 version one emulates, since its super easy to just pop in a disc and play.
Pirating NISA shit is perfectly reasonable, until they prove they aren't complete faggots
In 99% cases people telling you to emulate a game is because it's free that way. What if I want to support NISA releases on Steam?
I emulated the game years ago.
Firefly Diary was a decent port, Disgaea PC is still getting updated (last update 3 days ago). I tried the Phantom Brave demo and it seems stable. Only found one bug related to the gamepad.
Disgaea PC or this ?
Disgaea 1 has pretty shitty gameplay honestly. Phantom Brave is easily better.
I know. I'm just saying that not everyone who emulates is a pirate, and you shouldn't assume as much. Emulation is important to the game industry, and people assuming emulation = piracy are holding gaming back.
Disgaea has better characters, story, music, gameplay, everything.
>weeb shit
hahahaha
Fuck off
Does it have Japanese text?
I know very well that, I still emulate, however to me people saying "emulate" when the game is now available on PC are pretty much the same as pirates.
Wrong on all accounts. Disgaea is comedic and doesn't take itself, its story, or its characters seriously. The characters aren't realistic or believable. Meanwhile, the relationship between Marona and her brother along with her desire to be liked only to be crushed by those around her is sad and endearing. Disgaea 1's item world was also really retarded in that it could randomly create levels you can't get through, forcing you to use Mr. Gency. Plus Disgaea's music can't lay a finger to tracks like this:
youtube.com
youtube.com
Yes. It has Japanese voices AND Japanese text.
Actually scratch that. Japanese voices are toggleable but I think Japanese text is only available to Japan.
No you need to set your steam client to Japanese I think.
Doesn't seem to work. This is how you change it, right? Or is there something more to it than Steam's language settings?
please stop doing PC ports NIS
you fucks need to buy the original
Fuck off
2 AND A HALF HOURS
I bought disgaea 1 and 2 for ps2 and I bought disagaea 1 for PC
what now
Cuck
You're pretty cool but
>Disgaea 1
No seriously, I don't see what people see in that game. Item world is awful.
>phantom fucking brave instead of any disgaea or at least soul nomad
Soul Nomad would be cool. Based on the order these games are coming out, there's a decent chance that Makai Kingdom followed by Disgaea 2 will be next, though.
The PSP version comes with a few new characters.
Never heard of this game until I saw it on Steam. How different is it from Disgaea?
Its not grid based (you can free-roam a certain distance each turn), and your units, with the exception of Marona, are only allowed on the battlefield for a limited time. Its also not comedy oriented and has more realistic characters.
1 HOUR 15 MINUTES
What would you say it's worth then? Sounds pretty alright, looks fun, are there any terrible flaws to it or should I just jump in?
>there's a decent chance that Makai Kingdom followed by Disgaea 2 will be next, though.
please god let this happen
Its only real flaw is that its rather grindy. You'll have to replay missions or go through randomly generated dungeons to keep up since you'll need a sizable party. Some people also find it annoying how few turns a unit may get before you can't use it again for the rest of battle. I like it though and think that just adds to the strategy and uniqueness of it though. Its my favorite NIS game.
Why pre-purchased it. But how come Steam made me waive the usual 14 day return policy?
Why won't I be able to refund the game?
Because it's a pre-purchase? Or because there's a bundled artbook?
Though there is no chance of me wanting to refund it provided the game runs. I love Phantom Brave.
There's a demo you can download and play to see if it runs. You don't need to buy it to test it.
for what purpose does fatlus keep releasing games on the PC which I played on my PS2 more than 10 years ago?
If you're using the fusionist right you can skip a lot of the grind. Going through a high level dungeon with the failure title lets you grab a ton of high level items if you have bottlemails unlocked. Character levels are a lot less important than item stats. Marona can solo the entire main quest with a decently fused weed or trolly.
>Atlus
This is a NISA game.
Also maybe they want to introduce the game to a new audience and use this chance to make a more definitive version of the game, since the PSP version has the most content but is also the lowest res. You wouldn't start a series from the newest game, would you?
Admittedly I don't entirely understand how to use the fusionist.
>Phantom Brave PC
>Overwatch
>Marvel Ultimate Alliance Bundle
>We Happy Few
>Ghost of a Tale
Which should I get?
life:o)
You get items, banish them for their titles, and use their titles to make things stronger or weaker.
Who ordered the physical copy on NISA's site? I haven't received my steam key from them.
I can't believe someone gave a legitimate answer.
Do you think it will sell better or worse than Disgaea?
Enjoy it PCfriends.
I finished it on the PSP.
Marona is top daughteru material.
Play it in japanese for maximum CONFINE.
Soul Nomad PC port when?
MUA
Worse. I mean it will sell well, it's just that Disgaea is more popular.
5 MINUTES
Ask someone who beta tested the game anything.
How shitty a port is it?
Did they fix the fusion menu not showing equip percentages or whatever? That was super annoying in the wii version
The only problem I'm able to discern is that there's a small brief crackling noise whenever you open the game up to the menu. Otherwise, it plays beautifully. It even has proper buttons and keys in dialogue boxes that change immediately depending on whether or not you're using a controller or keyboard.
I don't know. Give me a second and I'll check.
I just realized that Ash looks and dresses exactly like Luka. Weird.
I'm really glad these more obscure gems are getting re-released. They deserve the attention. Overpriced though.
I really hate that Disgaea look on games.
It's cheap and uninspiried and makes me want to never even just try it out.
The fusion menu seems to work fine.
None.
>Hating Phantom Brave
It's the best one. How anyone can think otherwise is beyond me. I mean the others don't even have ghosts or that cozy island.
I haven't played the others
Phantom Brave was the least fun of these games.
Looks like it's still the Wii/PSP interface, it's missing the Equip %
Makai Kingdom is already better by virtue of being an improved sequel gameplay-wise, though the story is a lot closer to Disgaea 1 than it is Phantom Brave.
But in the end, Soul Nomad is simply the best game NIS has made. You can dislike it if you want though, because it is the most different of all their SRPGs and everyone has their own tastes.
Is this NISA dropping hints?
can you get the PSP version from the playstation store to play on VITA?
>its a nisa shills a decade old game in hopes for extra bucks episode
I've played Disgaea. Is this game more of the same with another name? pls no flame.
Sell me on Soul Nomad then user. I've heard the title and know people say it's good but have no idea what it's about.
I really just like the theme and aesthetic of Phantom Brave. It feels really special. Nostalgia probably plays a bit of a role.
>anyone who likes games that i dont are shills
>anyone who mentions a game they are excited to play is about to come out is a shill
>any opinion i disagree with is a shill
I love neo -Sup Forums
Yeah, I downloaded it through my PS3 and put it on my vita through that.
Did they fix the controller bug with down button that happens in the demo?
No. Its not comedy oriented like Disgaea and combat isn't grid based. Furthermore, your units disappear from battle after a few turns, unlike Disgaea.
It's pretty fun, and NG+ has an alternate route where you decide to become the big bad and take over the world. A lot of stuff feels sort of unfinished, though, like the random dungeon system. It's prolly got the best Tenpei Sato music too.
>to come out
Its already out you dumb idiot, just emulate it.
No one cares, just port Disgaea 3 and 4 already, or at least D2.
>combat isn't grid based
Sounds scary. I think I'll watch a yt video or two first before buying.
Phantom Brave is one of my all time favorites. I didn't get the PSP or Wii ports, but seeing how this should be the ultimate port, I'll definitely get it now. Can't wait to play those extra chapters and whatever else they've added along the way since the PS2 original.
Also, that motherfucking soundtrack holy shit it's good.
I've never played the demo, but I haven't had any problems with the down button. What happens when you press the down button in the demo?
If you press the pad too far down it will go up instead.
Just dropping in to say that I was in the beta test for PBPC, and it runs great.
And that if you don't like grinding, you can easily use Cheat Engine to change character stats.
>slowly porting disgaea and spinoffs to PC
So how long will it take until we get the latest game in the series because I sure as hell ain't playing for the obsolete versions.
Gameplay is somewhat more traditional for an SRPG where units move across a grid of cardinal directions, and instead of geo panels or the like, you have different terrain giving boosts to defense and whatnot. Instead of singular units, you're moving squads to move and battle. Squads are put together between battles and each unit has a different action it takes depending on which row you put them in (front, middle, back) Combat is actions from the initiator with counteractions from the defender. The lead unit also has tactics they can use on the field to alter stats or do other things like indirect damage or set traps, etc.
Story and setting wise, it's a lot more grim than most NIS games and takes itself more seriously most of the time, but there's still room for some comic relief from the more excitable or dimwitted cast members. The world is in danger from these giants called World Eaters and it's up to you to use the sword witht he God of Death who once mastered the World Eaters, and said God of Death is a cynical asshole who loves to talk shit to everybody. Your protagonist is mostly silent in the sense that they just have a battle voice and all of their story dialogue is silent while being chosen by the player in every scene. You can even pick your gender if that makes any difference. There's also a sort of hidden relationship value thing that can change depending on how you respond in scenes and who you do combination attacks with, but it doesn't really affect anything besides what epilogue scene you get by the end of the game.
Also Walnut's here for some reason, but he's going by a different name now. His presence is mostly just kind of a thing that's there and this game doesn't really tie into Phantom Brave other wise in any way, but he does have his own little story arc going along with the rest of the cast so it's not like he was just thrown in at the last minute like most NIS cameos.
I haven't had that problem and am not having that problem. What controller are you using? I'm using a DS3 controller with Xinput to make my computer think its a 360 controller.
>PB
>Disgaea spinoff
It's a completely unrelated game user
360 controller. Maybe it's a problem only on demo.
Why did they remove that anyway?
It has prinnies and Laharl and his crew are opstgame characters
I have no idea why they decided to get rid of that and the elemental icons on skills.
Is there any chance we'll get the Prinny series on PC?
We already did, its called ppsspp
