What other console handheld hybrids have there been? The ability to connect your PSP to your PS3? None of these count because they were a cheap addition to it and not this other thing that is the Nintendo's new console which is going to be amazing. PSP is not a real hybrid, they don't even market it as such and it's even bad because that's how Sony did, or didn't, do it. The only way to do a real hybrid is to actually try. The reason nobody wanted Playstation was because it wasn't real and had no real way to connect, it was just lazy cheap and expensive. If Nintendo do it right there would be literally nothing wrong with it. They just need to make it a worthy console that is a handheld something that has never been done before. And they don't need so much power, what people will do is buying this as a new handheld, and then just leave it connected to their tv because they realize they just use their phone, but then they'll have it connected to tv and buy more games for it and use it as a real consone, it's just tricking them into buying nintendo consoles, everyone feel they need a handheld, so they are going to buy it even if they don't use it.

Aside from Nintendo? No. For the past 10 years Nintendo have shown themselves to very unfriendly to third-party developers. It's why they've lost three generations in a row.
A combination of weak (as in, a generation weaker) hardware, unfriendly attitude towards third-party developers and publishers, complete lack of online infrastructure, and an extremely stubborn mindset stuck in the mid-90's has led to Nintendo's failure.

The Gamecube, while a good console, was still a failure. Nintendo was starting to show how out of touch they were with the way the market was heading.
The Wii may have sold 100 million units, but its total revenue was fucking shit considering the attachment rate was horrid. 90% of the people who bought the thing played around with it for a bit, then it sat there gathering dust for half a decade.
Don't even try to defend the WiiU, it was Nintendo's biggest failure since the Virtual Boy. Nintendo's first-party games can't keep it afloat. The market that bought the Wii have all migrated to smartphones and tablets.
The NX is going to be the fourth failure from Nintendo, it's going to do worse than the WiiU. It's a shittier Nvidia Shield, that's what it is.

Basically, they could just make a more powerful WiiU, but they're trying to distinguish themselves from the other gaming platforms by delivering an experience that's nearly as good that you can also play on the go, which most people are already doing with their tablets and smartphones. Actually, if they were smart, that's how they'd set it up--give in all the features of a tablet, but make it also a gaming system that can handle a something like Breath of the Wild, and that you can also pop into your TV and watch Netflix on.
