Would it even be worth it to buy something so expensive? I've never done video editing before and mostly play old games from Gamecube and PS2 era. I'm buying these things to keep me busy. I literally do nothing around my house. What do you guys think? Should I spend the money on the computer? I mean, there isn't really anything else for me to spend it on. I could save it, but I'm in college and currently live with my parents. I don't really need the money.
TLdr: Is it okay for me to spend $3,000 on a computer rig that can play games and edit videos? I don't need the money, but it is a lot to just drop on a PC.

>>Would it even be worth it to buy something so expensive?
If you have to ask, then no

Also, 3000 seems extremely high, even for a 1070 and an i7

I personally think it is way too much. You could do just as well with an i5, a rx480, 8gbs ram and still have 2000 to spend on other shit other than 10 FPS extra

get a 144hz monitor without gsync, it's cheaper and just as great

spend less so if you don't use it, it won't be such a waste

>$3000 budget
>get a 1070

Retard

instead of updating my pc, that's honestly still perfectly fine with a 680 for 1080p, i decided i'd build a nas and a pfsense router. which is also money wasted but at least i'll learn new things

the cpu, gpu, and monitor alone were around $1,200 together

>all of that for 2700

Well I bought mine about 2 years ago now. but fuck I think it still out performs this.

>I7 6700 is about 350
>1070 400-500
>Ends up at 3000 dollars
Something does not add up here.

>alone
These are the biggest money spenders, unless you also plan to buy 1tb SSDs.

>i767k -->$350
>gtx 1070-->$450
>monitor-->$500

Where do the other $1500 come from though? The fuck else are you getting? 7 SSDs?

Just build a $1000 PC and save the rest

>and accessories

What fucking accessories did you add for that build to get up to 3,000 dollars? That thing should be like 1500-1700 tops

Really quick I just want to say that I realize that alot of this is superfluous. I was going to start getting rid of and replacing some things
pcpartpicker.com/list/R9gBZ8

You can get the monitor you mentioned for 300-400 even adding ram, mobo, psu and storage there's no way your close to 3k.

Spend 3k on an autism machine or spend $200 on a PS4 to play the same exact games and the remaining $2800 on roundtrip tickets, food and play money in Asia/Europe where you'll make memories and get laid.
Tough call.

OP here

user, what the bloody fuck are you doing?

You have a problem when your PSU costs more than your mother board

I'm a shut in. I have friends but I don't really like hanging out with them too much. So, I don't think going to Europe and banging chicks would be for me.

>A fucking 500 Gig SSD

Nigga the fuck

>Budget is $3,000

My budget was $800 in 2011 and this is a screen shot from my last game that I played that's a current gen title. Op is retarded, his comment is retarded and no one should take him seriously.

>be me

kuso thread

kill yourself teenbro OP

>exact same games

Good one, user

Also he said money isn't a problem, he could do those things regardless I'm sure.

I know I went crazy and added some stuff. I was gonna kick the thermal paste and leave the water cooler. Alot of the stuff is from before I realized how much I was gonna spend.

get a giant tv, a ps4, and 5 games. happy for life. but the giant tv is a must.

Its not worth spending that much money to play video games. Unless you're rich or something.

Why the fuck would you need a 144Hz monitor unless you're playing CSGO

Also, show your pcpartpicker list

>be me
Who else would I be?

>i7
>For gayming
Literally for what purpose if you are not gonna use that computer for actual heavy lifting

lol ok I get it

My brother just built that exact machine, except he got a 980ti

I'm mad jelly of it.

>falling for the >60Hz refresh rate meme

Have fun with every single console port (the only games PC has) being locked at either 30 or 60FPS.

for editing

Here you go

>spending that much money on fucking video games
I hate rich people.

>>Be me

editing what you double nigger

let's play videos nobody is going to watch? overwatch frag montages? lmao

They are the same games. Unless you want a PC to play the latest bleeding vagina indie simulator or if you're autistic enough to argue that laura croft having an extra 3 polygons on her left asscheek completely turns tombraider into a different game.

He's a college kid still living with mommy. The 3k he has saved up is almost 100% from college loans or a mcjob.

You're going to use the SSD for booting things, you don't need a 500GB SSD. You don't need a 1000W PSU, you'll be fine getting a 650-750W PSU for 70 bucks. You don't need a sound card, you can find a 144hz monitor for at least 100 dollars less than the one you have on there now. You don't need liquid cooling, a cheaper aftermarket cooler will do you just right.

Why don't you just go to college? That's what I did.

It's only 3k because you're investing in a bunch of stupid garbage that you don't really need.
Just buy the essentials and you can easily spend less then a quarter of that instead of overcompensating on a bunch of little bells and whistles that you don't actually need.

People like you who are new into buying PC's will think they always have to buy the edgiest goddamn shit that they don't really need and will whine on the internet about how "le expensive" it is. Do your fucking research.

If you already edit why don't you already have a good computer

...

Three grand is probably a little too much. I spent closer to two on my PC three years ago and it still maxes out everything I can throw at it.

As far as your console remark, like most things you get what you pay for. If you invest in your hobby you'll get much better performance and options right now and down the road.

Get a BenQ monitor.

But they aren't the same games, if you can't see why then you're intentionally deluding yourself

No just stupid video edits to show my friends. Like H3H3 or something dumb like that. I think its pretty funny how he fucks with the videos. I hate let's plays.

I built my PC in 2011 for £600 (about $900 then) and I still use it. All I've done is improve cooling and overclock. I might spend £40 on a second graphics card.

This. Anything above 60hz is literally meme gimmick.

You don't even need a super fucking good processor if you want to record with shadowplay

not op but im literally building a pc and buying everything today, one thing i cant figure out os the processor or weather i should get an i5-6500 or fork out $120 more for an i7-6700, is there going to be that much of a noticeable difference in speed that its worth the money? also what should i budget for my graphics card if im not too arsed about having max settings but want it to run most games

I spent $1.5k a few months ago for a similar setup. 1070, 6600k, 144hz monitor. I don't know how you're spending almost $3k

>i have no friends im such a shut in loser
>i want to edit zaney prank videos to show my bros rofl epic my dude vapenash

i think you should spend that money on a helium tank and end your parent's embarrassment and misery

thank you

Higher resolution > Framerate. You can always work your way around a rendering lock, but it's rare to do the same to a framerate lock, unless it's a soft-lock like most UE3 console ports.

I agree 100% spending 3000 on a pc is generally a terrible idea but you can build a very decent one with less than 1000. Personally I spent like ~700 on mine and it plays everything.

The real shame is buying it with your parent's money.

buy an i5 if you're only gaming

get a 212 EVO, it does the job at the fration of the price and with no leaking risk

thermal paste should come with any cooler you buy already

I would invest in a cheaper 250GB ssd as a boot drive, but i don't know what you're gonna do with it

1000W is a bit too much for your build, 800 or even 700 will do the job

buy windows 7 for cheap as fuck at r/microsoftsoftwareswap

you definitely don't need a soundcard in 2016

wifi a shit, get a mile long cable for that money

1440p is a meme, 1080p 144hz or 4k 60hz, both of which have cheaper alternatives

get a 10 dollar logitech keyboard if you're going that low, and definitely buy a wired gaming mouse

never buy 'gaming' headsets, invest in proper headphones and a 1 dollar mic

unless your mom has to scream at you that dinners ready, don't bother with speakers if you got headphones

>monitor
you don't have a tv in your house?

>be me

>feeling the need to tell people that you are you before personal anecdotes

>kick the thermal paste

Nigga, you seriously just went full retard. If your cpu doesn't come with paste or thermal pads you're going to need it

I'm sorry. I wasn't sure if my motherboard had any sound components on it. So I got a soundcard, then I had to get headphones for gaming with friends and a stereo for videos and anime

Could live in Canada. But then those parts would probably be more

If you're just capturing footage you don't need an i7. If you're rendering tons of video or something, maybe, but I doubt your little edits are that power taxing.

You could go on a pretty good vacation with $3000, gain life experience, meet new people, see new places and new cultures.

>wasting $3000 on a gaming PC

Spending 3k on a 1500$ pc is what happens when you throw out money on peripherals you don't need
"I need 1440p because someone said it's better"
Unless you have hardcore autism, you'll most likely be fine with a 1080p monitor

I am in college you shit head. Still bordering the poverty line

How is spending that money to go somewhere nice for like six days better than putting it into something you'll use every day for a decade?

Don't get me wrong I love to travel but your point is moot.

I've spend about 2.5k jewros last autumn on an new PC. But besides gaming I work on it, so I wanted to get the top of the line at the time. And living in the ass side of europe means that all hardware is more expensive.
So I dunno, as others have said, you can save quite a lot by looking for cheaper equivalents. Or if you don't care about low resolutions and framerates, go for a console. I would personally wait until it's clear if Sony are making a more powerful version of PS4, like Microsoft will with xbox.

It's because you don't need the i7 or 144Hz Gsync monitor to obtain high res gaming just the GPU and whatever the current intel i5 k chip is. I'm guessing the monitor is probably ~$800 of your cost which really puts you down to like $1900 which is way more reasonable.

My last upgrade for my PC cost me $1000 exactly and is still maxing out games these days. In fact I've maxed out games on my computer every time I've built one and I've never once spent over $1500 per build. Also if you do buy shit like a mouse/keyboard/headphones/monitors/speakers etc. don't count that towards the actual PC build cost because that's shit that either lasts through multiple builds or you should already have from a previous build.

Yeah and you can get a case, mother board, ram and power supply for 200$ more

el oh el u r too funny user XD

For games the difference is negligable- I have an i5 4690k and even a 980ti would cap out long before this CPU. Don't worry about it, an i5 will still probably last you for your next two GPUs.

>Be me

1080p is a meme too, 720p masterrace.

That monitor is probably $800 and since he had to buy a monitor he probably also either

A. Had to buy other peripherals like mouse/kb
B.Overspent on shit like MOBO, RAM, PSU because it's babbys first build.
C. Is shopping in places with terrible prices on stuff.

You obviously have no idea how much traveling costs if you think $3k can only last you 6 days. When I lived in Japan I traveled to Taiwan for a week and spent just around $500 USD including all travel, food, leisure, and souvenier expenses.

Stick to consoles OP, you are clearly too retarded to pick parts for a pc let alone build one.

bruh that's like the 1440p of qHD resolutions, 540p for life

go ahead spend that 3k

>pay 300 for a console play games without a problem
>pay 3k for super end pc , hve better shadows , reflect resolution ..etc , games run like crap and have to wait until the comunity fix the problem or a fucking patch that will come after a few weeks probably , worst comunity , cheaters and late ports or not at all .. will end playing ps2 and old gen games mostly

PeeCee master race amirite?

Nothing worthy here in commiefornia.

Is there anything that doesn't have a bullet button?

Ditch the cooler
Ditch the CPU for an i5
>$15 for paste
I've never spent more than like $8 at microcenter for artic
DO NOT GET GIGABYTE MOBO DROPPED
RAM is fine but I personally would go for Corsair over kingston

Overpaying, also
>black series

Get a fucking EVGA GPU you dumb cuck not MSI
That case is dumb
YOU DON'T NEED A 1000W POWERSUPPLY YOU FUCKING DUMB FUCK HOLY SHIT
Get a lower wattage modular platinum rated

holy shit you're retarded

Monitor is fine
Get a mobo with wifi built in idiot
That keyboard is trash
Mouse is trash
Don't buy those headphones go to Sup Forums or Sup Forums for better looks
DO NOT BUY LOGITECH SPEAKERS
Get something better for $100 2 channel with a tweeter and mid
You're welcome

Did you fly? Plane tickets in the states cost like $500 round trip alone. If you stay in a nice hotel in a major city it's a minimum of $150 a night if you're very lucky. That isn't even including the cost of transportation like a rental car or taxis everywhere you want to go. That money adds up quick. I know you can cut corners and save a shit ton depending on the city you stay in, but traveling is expensive when it isn't through a bunch of rice field covered gook cities.

>bruh that's like the 1440p of qHD resolutions
i know right? it's not like 1440p is saturated with the best gaming monitors like the x34 and slew of (decent) 1440p/144z panels, i mean only a stupid fuck wouldn't know that and just assume bigger number = bigger good xD

You can't get drunk with your PC or go swimming with it.

>You're going to use the SSD for booting things, you don't need a 500GB SSD

Using an SSD as a boot drive is a retarded waste of money. How often do you reboot vs how often are you loading something? SSDs should workhorse drives. Use them to store games or do editing on. Also, 500GB is the minimum size SSD I'd ever consider. I've got a 512GB and 960GB myself. Was less than $400 for both.

Oh yeah I missed it

Drop the sound card you fucking moron and drop that 500GB SSD get a 250GB samsung or a 128GB

post specs if you are so great

>Plane tickets in the states cost like $500 round trip alone

And that's if you stay in the country. Coast to coast or international is more like a grand a ticket.

You don't need an i7 for editing. My amd cpu is worse than a fucking pentium 2 and can render 1080p videos just fine.

pcpartpicker.com/list/3xCNmG

psh...here you go...kid..
a nice rig, all for $840 before rebait...heh.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

Who says you can't have both a good PC and money to travel?

Get the 4GB 480 for your graphics card. i5 Is fine if you only want to game.
